[Ooc: Look at the cool template I found on FreePose. Click here] John couldn’t help but laugh at the smile on Dana’s face. The feeling of sadness was still upon him, but had lessened with her kind words. Grow stronger? He hoped that he could. More than that, he hoped he could be a strong as her. His own turquoise gaze was directed towards his paws as he though about it. Then, he stared out towards the water and he got the ‘far-away’ look in his eyes. “I know he does,” he whispered this mainly to himself, rather than to her. “We have to what?” he asked when she didn’t finish her sentence. He stared in her eyes. They were comforting to him. Then, he stared at her paw, which she had placed on his. [Ooc: This is a bad post. Too short...]

(Aw, thats adorable! *pets* And your post is fine, quality, not quantity!)
Dana looked away as John questioned her.
"We have to...be here for eachother... we need one another."
She whispered staring down at the wooden planks, listening to the water lapping against the dock. She spoke of the truth, her mother was out of it since the deaths, and her brothers had their own lives to live, John was her friend, the only one she had left to really connect with. Dana was willing to do anything and everything for John, knowing that he would do the same.
"That is why we both have to be strong, I for you, you for me... and even for them..."
Dana motioned upward as she spoke, still unable to look John in the eye.

John noticed that Dana seemed embarrassed as she spoke. He leaned over and nuzzled her. All the words that she spoke were true. John only had the memories of his son and mate, who had long left him... and Dana. He laid his head along her neck to comfort. As she nodded upward, John's eyes followed towards the grayish sky. Looks like rain, he thought to himself when he noticed the swirling clouds of darkness overhead.
His lids fell slowly over his turquoise eyes. His burgundy ears slid back as he listened to the gently sound of water and the bustling town which now seemed to be awakening. Wherever his son was, he hoped he was happy. John shifted his position so that he was laying next to his comrade.
“Do you think they can see us?” He motioned upward with a paw. The question came out of the as his eyes opened to look at her.

Dana sighed, this time with sheer content. A simple thought crossed her mind, but she quickly washed it away. Of course she felt comfortable here, she felt...right. John's warmth caused Dana to close her eyes and delve into her own thoughts. His words made her own eyes snap open and look up at him, with a warm smile.
"Yes... they can."
Dana's voice lifted from the whisper it had been, holding her strong tone while smiling. She swallowed hard and looked up at the sky as well. Turquoise eyes shut feeling a cool splash of water hit her maw.
"Tears from above..."
Her voice fell so low it was barely audible. She remembered what her father told her about the rain...tears of angels, whether tears of joy, or sadness. Today, they were tears of joy.

It was a comforting thought, that those who had passed on where able to see the ones the loved, possibly even hear them. Although his faith wasn't nearly as strong as that of Dana's he still had some. That counted for something, didn't it? He could only hope so. John smiled back at her. His smiles were rare, yet he had smiled more than once today. Odd wasn’t it? The thought was shrugged off.
A crystal shower of water continued down upon them. John let them wash his fur, feeling quite strange. He felt blissfully happy, despite what the previous conversation had been about. Below the pair, the waves raged. Despite the height of the water, it only barely managed to splash up onto the high dock. Although salt water was upon his paws and stomach, John still lay peacefully next to Dana.
“What was that?” he asked opening one eye, unsure if she had said something or not.

Dana smiled and closed her eyes. She had always enjoyed the rain, though she hadn't a true reason for it, perhaps she just loved water, either way this day wouldn't be an exception. She lifted her head slightly and looked at John with a grin.
"Something my father used to tell me... Rain drops are the tears of those we lost." She whispered, next to his ear this time. "Although the tears are not always from sorrow..."
With that Dana lifted onto her paws and shook the rain from her pelt, causing her to look as if she had a glow around her. She smiled and nipped at John playfully. It had been quite some time since she had galloped through the rain, like a pup, and she wanted to bring back those old memories and make new ones.

"Hmm..." was all he said considering her words.
He followed as Dana stood. "Hey!" he said taking a step back as she splashed with water once on her coat. Happily, he followed her off the dock, back towards down, where some of the humans were retreating into their houses to keep try. Narrowly missing the edge of the dock, he continued on. It had been a long time sense he had done anything like this. He was used to being his serious self, who almost never smiled. Now, though, he had a puppyish smile across his maw.
It was odd, how much you could change in such a short period of time. Oh well. Atleast he was having fun!

Quietly and quickly dodging past humans and their canine slaves, Dana moved swiftly toward the edge of the village. Pausing for a moment she stared long and hard at John, as if studying him. A smirk grew on Dana's maw as she turned and dashed away. Sure she was doing this to get John's mind off the previous conversation, but that didn't make this any less fun! Turning to look over her shoulder Dana called out to him.
"Come on darling! Gotta run faster than that!"
Although Dana hadn't considered her words right away, she realized that term was one commonly used for couples. That thought flashed through her mind, causing the Shepard mix to shudder where she stood. Friends... Dana growled to herself as she shook away the thought.
After a few minutes of running Dana stopped and leaned her shoulder against a tree, shielding her from the misty rain. She panted heavily and turned her eyes up to meet John's with a grin. Lowering her head once more Dana stared at the ground allowing herself to gather her thoughts and to regain that energy which she had just burned off.
"Fun..eh?"
Dana managed to say through short bursts of breath, hoping her hadn't noticed her slip up only moments before.

Paws slipping on the wet cobblestone, John raced to catch up with her, almost colliding with a few inhabits of Rakine in the process. The rain, cold as it was, felt good as he dashed out of the port with her. Thankfully, her plan to take his mind off of the previous events was working, atleast for now. As Dana turned to tease him, he did speed up, but it wasn’t easy. He wasn’t that young after all. He had heard what she called him, but decided against mentioning it to here, perhaps to spare her the embarrassment and so he didn’t have to think about it. Up ahead, she stopped, and he followed. Tongue lolling, he stood in the rain, unlike her. With a not-to-light thud, he dropped to the down into a half-sitting half-lying and onto the wet grass.
“Tiring, too,” he managed to say, despite his breathing hard. He looked around at the familiar territory, knowing he had been here before. The rain didn’t appear to be letting up; instead, it was coming down faster. Deciding it would be best to not get pelted by the rain, he made his way under the tree and shook off the water clinging to his pelt. Letting out an audible sigh as he did, John plopped down on the ground, glad to be having fun, which was a change, perhaps for the better.

Deciding to let the rain remain on her pelt, Dana grinned and plopped down right next to John. Stretching her back Dana was nearly laying on him, although it was a joke of course. Nipping at his ear she smirked at him, flashing her canines at her friend.
"Well thats enough exercise...for like, a year..."
Dana yawned and rolled onto her stomach, leaning on John. Lifting turquoise eyes, in attempt to look at the cloudy sky, the Shepard searched the sky, wondering, thinking, and even praying. After a few moments of silence Dana turned her line of vision to John, studying him like before, but this time her expression held, gentle and warm. When she turned away once more Dana sighed deeply, and opened her mouth to speak, but no words came.

[Ooc: -jumps up and down- I got the X-Files movie yesterday
After hearing her comment, John smirked. But, his grin slowly faded away has he turned more serious. His mind still lingered to there previous conversation. It seemed that he couldn’t get the subject out of his head. As he thought more and more about it, a frown started to form on his dark features. Unhappily, he laid his head on his paws and let her lean on him. When he saw Dana looking at him, he raised his head and smiled at her. Despite the smile, the pain he was feeling showed through his teal eyes.
He seemed unable to make himself feel any better. With a sigh, John nuzzled her and then he rested his head on her. The frown reappeared on his face as he watched the rain pour from the heavens. His eyes gazed up at her as she opened her mouth, as if to say something. He waited, but she said nothing.

(awesome! ^^)
Dana could see what was on John's mind, making her question burn deeper in her brain. Turning her eyes back to the sky as if they could tell her what to do, this caused her to look as if under a spell, staring without blinking she opened her mouth once more.
"John..."
Dana's voice above a whisper, yet airy, as if someone else had said it, not her. Eyes remained unmoving, continuously staring at the sky. With a deep sigh she finally pulled herself together.
"Have you ever considered... settling with a family again..."
Dana asked turning to face John, her eyes low and soulful. Her expression remained serious, yet held a slight warmth to it. Despite how odd her question may have seemed, she truly wanted to know, in case one day she too wanted a family, what about John? What would he do, or what if he was... the one...

[Sorry, it took a bit to reply. Homework...]
"John..."
As she spoke, John turned his gaze towards Dana, sensing something strange in her voice. She was staring at the sky in an odd way that he was beginning to become concerned. Was there a reason to be? He hoped not. He heard her sigh and then continue. Still frowning, he raised himself into a sitting position.
"Have you ever considered... settling with a family again..." Her question seemed a bit abrupt.
At first, he was completely silent as he decided whether, or whether not he was going to answer the question and, if so, how. Well, at first, when his mate had left him, it seemed impossible because. Back then, he didn’t even let himself think about it. But, now, a few years later, it he did find himself considering the notion of settling down with a mate and, possibly even having pups.
"Yes I have," was all he answered as he turned to face her. His eyes searched hers for an unknown reasons.

Dana nodded slowly, not allowing her eyes to follow John as he lifted into a sitting pose. After a moment she rested her chin on her paws, letting her long orange fur fall into her eyes.
"I see..."
Her voice trailed off making it sound as if she had something else to add, but she remained silent. There wasn't anything else she really could say without making them both feel uncomfortable. Her gaze was locked on the wet grass in front of her paws, as she thought deeper on the subject. Finally Dana lifted her head and shifted her eyes to meet John's, this time hers held what seemed to be her own sorrow.
"Promise you won't leave me until then..."
She whispered, keeping her gaze locked with his. Dana was rarely one to be so emotional, but she wanted to be sure she wouldn't be alone.

The frown that his face once held seemed to fade away, so that his face was left expressionless. It seemed completely blank as he waited for her to say something. When her voice seemed to drop off, he removed his gaze from the rain and sky, and began staring in her direction. As her own turquoise eyes met his, he saw the sorrow in them. Because he seemed unable to drive away that sorrow she held, he felt torn. He even seemed to feel that sorrow. Without a word, he moved towards her side and lay down at her side to comfort her.
Leave her? No, he wouldn’t; he couldn’t. Not when she was all he had and probably ever would have. He trusted her more than anybody else. Because of what they had both been through, he had grown so close to her to simple leave her behind if he found someone. She was his most trusted friend and always would be.
"Never," he whispered softly in her ear as he nuzzled her with his dark maw. "I would never leave you."
