Dana (John needs to join first, then if anyone else wishes to join they may do so.)
The crackle of gravel and dirt under paw pads, and the quiet whisper of the waves washing over the shore. Sure it was nice and such a beautiful horizon, but this was way too early for this dog. Then again when you end up sleeping near a birds nest you'd be wide awake at this hour too.
Ears folded back on her head as Dana finally stopped all movement and settled on one of the empty docks, with a deep sigh. The wind wrapped her orange fur around the dog's neck, causing her to close her eyes and take in the scent the wind carried. Humans, dogs, and the fresh water, not always the most pleasant to some, but Dana had always had a love for the sea, mainly due her father and his travels with humans.
Despite the sunrise, Dana's surroundings remained cloaked in shadows, awaiting the humans and dogs to rise and get to work, with their daily nonsense. Eyes opened and shifted as the sounds of creaking wood reached her ears. Humans boarding one of their ships to out to sea. Although Dana loved the sea, she never cared much for humans as her father had, they seemed too dangerous, besides she hardly trusted them after having seen her sister's death. It would be too much to even attempt to become close to such creatures.

John
“Damn humans…” came the growl from the Canaan Dog as he dodged a group of them two-legged creatures. Twice already the bumbling creatures had stepped on his paws. As he made his way towards the docks, he was pushed around by a few of those wretched creatures and nearly knocked into the freezing water of the port. The only good thing about this place was the fact that food was easily found and stolen. In fact, he had managed to snag a rather good-sized fish from a human who had to drag his catch towards the various shops and houses that lined the port.
Finally, he found the place he was looking for. Up ahead was an empty dock, well, empty except for another dog. Instantly, John recognized the other dog by the bright fur that adorned her head and neck. Unsteadily, he crossed the dock towards where she sat; he had never liked the sea. With a sigh, he dropped the fish in front of her and sat down.
“I don’t understand why you like this place Dana,” he began as he tore a chunk of the fish off and took a look around. “It’s crowded with humans and smells disgusting.” He chewed and swallowed, waiting for an answer.
[Ooc: Sorry it took so long D:]

(No prob, I've gotten used to waiting, trust me...xD)
Dana grinned as she glimpsed John making his way over to her, she couldn't help but laugh slightly at the large fish that he managed to drag through the awakening village.
"Hmm, well it's in my blood... Although I do agree with you on the part of the humans... Such... odd creatures..."
Her voice seemed dull, as she shifted her eyes back to the never ending waters, watching the waves crash against one another. After a moment passed she looked back to John.
"Well, at least they do have one good use... food!"
Dana grinned and took a small chunk out of the fish and looked at John with an innocent, 'I didn't do anything wrong,' look. She swallowed the bite and lifted a paw, motioning to the various humans.
"Hard to believe that humans could change the way of life... hard to believe that you and I deep down have the blood of wolves, and were it not for humans we would be wolves..."
Dana spoke, with narrowed eyes. She was starting to sound like a fortune cookie, not really a common thing for her, although it was completely true...

“Humans… there just a nuisance,” he managed to say as he took another bite of the fish. After seeing her take a bite of the fish, he slid it closer to her with his nose. His head was cocked to the side as she went on, listening intently to her words.
“What would be so wrong with being a wolf; we’re not that different from them? And why are they constantly being chased out of the port if we deep down part wolf?” he said in his gruff voice. “Humans are even stranger then cats.” Frowning, he took another bite and let his greenish-blue eyes wander around the port. More and more humans left there houses as the sun peeked out from behind the sea, lighting up the ocean-side town. With his eyes still staring at the humans as they went about their business, he took another bite of fish.

"My point exactly!"
Dana smiled and waved her paw at the humans again, before resting it next to her other. What was the point of humans anyway? They had done nothing good for her, except provide food, which still had to be stolen in the first place. Her sister died at the hand of humans, so why did she still remain here? Was it for the sea and the memories of her father? Even Dana couldn't answer that. Leaning over, she took another absent minded bite of the fish and swallowed it whole.
"I can't count the times humans have put their nasty hands on me, expecting me to be a slave for them and do their dirty work... I just don't understand what my father saw in them."
Dana's voice lowered through her sentence. Eyes flashed to a pair of humans whom stared at the two dogs. This caused Dana to shudder slightly and think to herself. If they even think about coming over here... She growled to herself and shook off the thought, bringing her turquoise eyes to settle back on John.

“Humans have done nothing for dog, except make them soft; few dogs can fight like the wolves can. But, then again, some humans can provide shelter for dogs, and, rarely, love. Unlike the canines that roam in packs, the not so feral of us aren’t bound by as many laws as those that an alpha would set.” With a shrug, he pushed it out of his mind and gazed at a few dogs that were being led by humans.
Frowning, he studied Dana. John understood why she dwelled here, or atleast he thought he did. The only reason he was here was for her, the only thing he really had. If it had not been for her, he would probably be off with one of the wolf packs, hunting for his food, rather than stealing it. But, he found that he was unable to leave her.
Following Dana’s eyes, he saw the humans who appeared to be looking at them. Narrowing his eyes, he stood, readying himself to rush at the humans if they made any attempt to capture the dog. Thankfully, they didn’t come any closer, and John sat back now, next to Dana. Concern crossed his face as John looked back at his comrade who had shuddered. “Are you alright?” he asked.

Caught up in her own thoughts, it took a moment for John's words to register in her mind. Dana lifted her head to look at him.
"Huh...oh, Yeah I'm fine..."
With a sigh the dog shifted her weight to rest on her right side, still in an upward position. Holding her head high, allowing the wind to bristle in her face, blowing her fur behind her. Eyes rested on the sea, making Dana look as if in a trance.
"You know... Before my sister's death I had considered in following my father's paw steps... I was young and foolish then..."
Dana's voice was deep yet light as a whisper carried on the wind. It wasn't often she brought up either of the deaths in her family, but something about that had been nagging at her so she finally spoke up. She wouldn't admit this sort of thing to just anyone, Dana only trusted John now, and she knew that she could trust him with everything, her weakness' her strengths, and her deepest thoughts as well.

Concern still showed in his turquoise eyes, even though she had answered that she was fine. His mouth was still set in a frown as he kept his eyes on her. He too sighed as he rested his head on his paws, his eyes focusing on the sky as the sun lit it up. His attention was turned to her as she spoke.
“We are all foolish when we are young…” His tone suggested that he had his mind on something else as he spoke. His eyes studied her features. It was obviously painful for her. Sadness riddled his face as he looked at her. Her pain seemed unbearable to him.
“My son…” he began, his voice shaking.
He didn’t go any farther. His eyes stung. His throat burned. John turned his head away from Dana, obviously ashamed that he was unable to finish what he was saying. Instead of trying to continue, he just dropped his head back on to his paws, feeling like worse than before.

Dana paused and turned her eyes to John, the widened slightly, as concern for him filled her, he wasn't usually like this. She slowly lowered unto her stomach and leaned against him with a deep sigh.
"You...lost him didn't you..."
She whispered with a gentle caring tone. Dana hadn't meant to make John feel upset, because of her or anything she said. She could see his pain, the fact that John was unable to finish his sentence was enough to concern Dana. He was strong, she knew that, but everyone had their weakness' and Dana now understood one of John's.
"You can tell me...anything."
Speaking again in a whisper she nudged him slightly letting him know it was okay. Dana would never judge him, and she knew the same from him. Pain, everyone had it, and that pain helps to make them stronger, as it had Dana, she would help it help John as well.

All John could do was nod, unable to look at anything but his burgundy paws. He felt a small amount of comfort because Dana was near him, but not enough to make him speak, not yet, atleast. The constant knowing of what had happened tore at him.
“You can tell me… anything.” He felt like he could, but didn’t want to. Talking about it might help, or it might tear him apart…
It took a while for him to gain control and to be able to look at here as he spoke. “We, my son, mate and I, lived in a village of humans; it was smaller than this and wasn’t near the sea.” His eyes seemed to be looking everywhere but at her. “One day my son wandered off and we couldn’t find him for nearly two days. When we did finally locate him, he was dead, killed by another dog. We never knew who had done it” His voice broke and he found tears running down his face.
“He was only a pup,” came a whisper as he laid his head on his paws. His eyes stared out at the seemingly endless waters. The expression on his face showed that he was unwilling to continue any farther.

(No prob...I had to log off too, so it's all good!)
Dana held back a whimper hearing John's words. She had never had children, so she hadn't experienced such a loss. Your own flesh and blood, your child. Dana shook her head, trying not to imagine it.
"Such a loss... Yet you remain so strong."
She whispered and pushed her muzzle under John's neck. Dana wanted to do everything she could to comfort her friend in his time of need, but she didn't know if it was even possible.
"It's okay, because I know that he is with my father and sister, he is well taken care of. They are all watching over us... together."
Dana whispered, lifting her eyes to the sky. Her own words brought back the dreams that she had of her father shortly after his passing, even the dreams she had when she herself had been near death. Her father had told her to move on, he had told her that she could live, and those words stuck to her ever since.

Although Dana was able to hold back a whimper, John wasn't. His whimper was a pitiful one and him feel completely helpless. Talking about it didn’t help him at all, like he had hoped; it only drove him deeper into sadness, pain, and anger. As she rested her muzzle on his neck, he felt even worse. He had lost his son, but she had lost her sister and her father.
She said he was strong, although he felt far from it; he felt completely weak, more powerless than a new born pup. Nothing he could do would make him feel half as strong as she thought he was. He closed his eyes tight, as if that could simply banish the sadness inside of him. The next thing she said made him think.
Was there really anything after death? Some safe-haven for all souls who had passed on, or out-lived there time? He wasn’t sure. Unlike Dana, he had almost no faith in the world around him and probably never would.
“We can only hope,” he whispered to her, his eyes staring out at the vast ocean. The size of the ocean before him made him feel so small, insignificant as if he really didn’t matter. But did he? He stopped himself before he began to make himself feel even worse than he already was.

Dana lifted her head after hearing John's words.
"No, John. I don't hope, I know..."
Her voice firm, and forced to be hardly over a whisper. Those dreams weren't just her own subconscious. John could think and believe what he wanted, but Dana was positive. Lowering her muzzle, she licked his cheeks, helping to wash away his tears.
"No one can ever gain anything without first giving up something in return... That may not be the best thing to make you feel any better, but it is the truth...and nothing can change it."
Dana once again spoke firmly, but it held concern as well. No longer a whisper either. Although she was trying to help John through this, she wasn't going to tell him a lie to make him feel better, even if the truth hurt more.
(Yes, I stole that saying from Fullmetal Alchemist...xD *points to speach text* Orangey...)

Again, his only reaction was to nod. John was surprised at the firmness of her voice as if she knew that the words she spoke were one hundred percent true. He wondered how she was so sure, but didn't have the courage to as about why she was so certain of it. So he kept his mouth shut until she spoke again. “What you say is true…”
He tried to stop the tears, in an effort to make her feel better. She was trying to help, which was more than he was doing. Dana seemed so much stronger than he did. Perhaps it was her faith that made her seem this way, or it was just the way she was. A small smile crossed his features as she washed away the tears that had once been on his face.
The Canaan Dog was glad she spoke honestly, instead of offering some false truth. Of course it hurt, but showed that she was actually trying to aid him when he needed help and support the most.

Dana smirked slightly seeing John smile. At least he was feeling better, or at least what she saw. With a sigh Dana turned to look out at sea once more.
"John... just know your son loves you, and with that knowledge you must gain and become stronger because of it."
Speaking within a whisper, her voice seemed airy and light as if she hadn't even spoken them out loud. Dana had been known for being strong through her sorrow, but that didn't mean she didn't have pain, and it didn't mean she was better then anyone else, it just meant she accepted what happened and moved on.
"We have to..." Dana paused, deciding not to finish her sentence. Turquoise eyes attempted to catch John's as she placed her paw on his. Her expression remained strong yet comforting, full of hope.
