Vega's eyes kept watching the three other males as the fight between Drox and the alpha ensued. Every few seconds she'd glance back at the brawl, making sure Drox was alright. Her muscles tensed up and her heart sped faster when the leader had Drox pinned to the ground, she made herself ready to spring at the leader when Drox had slashed the attacker's face with his claws. She then watched as Drox leaped onto the leader's back and dug his claws down deep through the big male's torso. The leader dropped to the ground, curling up in excruciating pain, as blood mixed with the muddy earth. Seeing what had happened to their leader, the three other males quickly fled. Vega had started to sprint after them, but quickly stopped herself, they weren't worth the effort taking down. They were too cowardly to even stand by their alpha as he lay dying in the murk of Dante's pass. The blonde female quickly loped back to Drox and nodded, "Yes, we must leave quickly. Next encounter like that and we might not be so lucky," she added as a warning, turning to Drox, "Are you alright? Did he get you?" she asked in concern.

"No, I'm fine." Drox told Vega. Then Drox proceeded to the alpha, nudged his snout against his motionless body to make certain he was dead. No reaction. Drox did the unexpected. He dug his teeth in the alpha's torso and ripped it apart. He was eating the dead alpha. "I need this to continue and you might want some before we depart too." he said with a piece of flesh hanging from his closed jaw. Drox was in survival mode now. Fatigue had set in and the shortage of food on the pass worried him.

Vega cocked her head to the side as Drox turned back to the dead wolf and prodded the lifeless carcass with his nose. Then Vega's eyes widened slightly as she watched Drox tear apart the carcass of their attacker and commenced in eating the poor fellow. Vega knew that food was scarce in the depths of the pass and she knew that finding food would not be so easy as the ventured deeper. She also knew that Drox's tiredness and strength called for the extra boost of food, so this act of cannibalism did not scare her as much as one would believe. It all had a logical purpose behind it, and thus she found no reason to fear. Slowly she crept forward, somewhat intimidated by the wolf's carcass, and only out of knowledge that food would be hard to come by in the pass, also ate a small part of the alpha's body, but left most of it to Droxili to finish.

Drox finished eating just as Vega hesitantly ate a piece of the dead alpha. They needed this to continue on and Drox had the thought in the back of his head as to what would happed when he faced his father. He'd need every bit of energy that his muscular body could produce. It would be no easy task. Drox knew that the three that fled from the fight were going to inform Dred as to their whereabouts. They fled towards the south, which Drox noted that Dred is still south of the pass. Sig was at least 8 wolves strong. The number of males was unknown to Drox. But he did know that it would be a fight to the death.

As Vega gulped down the rest of her piece, she noted that Drox had already finished eating and was already lost in his own thoughts. She could sense the worry from his body language and knew that the sooner they got out of the pass, the better. The narrow pass did not offer much security and the thoughts of getting cornered here somewhat frightened her. She walked toward Drox and sat down next to him as a blood red moon rose in the sky. She nudged up against his neck with her head affectionately, licking the blood off of his maw.

Drox looked to the horizon as darkness set in. The pass seemed endless. A muddy path into eternity. The creatures of the night had emerged from their daylight abodes and owls hoo's could be heard over the crickets chirping. The night was abnormally warm and very damp. "We must start moving, Dred will be on the move shortly. We must keep a cushion between him and us." Drox told Vega as she nudged her against his maw. The night would hold many surprises and he didn't want one of the surprises to be an ambush by Sig.

"I was about to say the same thing," Vega said with a quick nod. Walking a few steps ahead of him, she looked back at Drox to make sure he was ready to follow. When she had been assured of this, Vega took off at an easy lope, good for endurance rather than speed. The humidity in the air made the mud and fog of the pass all the more unpleasant, and the stench of the mud and mildew floated in through her nostrils.
She cringed slightly at the putrid aroma but could only think back to how bad the carcass they had left behind to rot in the mud would smell by daybreak. Vega nearly shuddered at the thought of such a horrible reminder of the leader's death. The only sound that was out of place that Vega and Drox made was the sound of panting breaths and the squelching of the mud as their paws collided with the wet earth.

The pair ran into what seemed oblivion. A slight drizzle began to fall to the muddy earth as the couple trotted along. A welcome change in the weather. As they went further down the pass the mud became deeper due to the rain. It became a tougher trot. "We can nap here." Drox said up to Vega. Drox knew that Sig was far behind them still and they had enough time to sleep. Drox needed every single ounce of energy he could get.

As the rain began to fall, Vega eagerly welcomed the cool droplets that fell on the pair as they soldiered on. Trying to lighten the mood a little bit, the she-wolf stuck her tongue out to the cool rain, catching drops on her tongue. The couple only stopped when the rain intensified and made the mud beneath their feet give and made traveling difficult. Making their way off of the muddy path, they moved up a bank to the side of the pathway under one of the few barren trees that lined the pass. Vega nodded to Drox at his notion to get some rest in this spot. She then leaned back on her haunches where the earth was firmer under the tree and eased herself down to lay down and rest for the night.

Drox was fast asleep when he was suddenly wakened by the sound of paws trotting in the mud. He pulled his head up to see the source of this sound. It was a female wolf. Very slender and very fast. Drox knew that face. It was Nile his sister. Drox took a defensive stance as she neared the pair. "What are you doing here?" he yelled at Nile. "I'm here to warn you Drox. I don't mean any harm. Dred is as angered as ever. The band of wolves that ran from the fight yesterday came to Dred to tell him your location." she told Drox while still trying to catch her breath. "He's still a bit behind. He's nearing the pass and is still on the move since yesterday. I will go back and tell him that I did not find you in the whole span of the pass. That way you may relax knowing he will slow his pace." she told him. "Why should I trust you?!? You're one of them." He screamed at her. "Because Drox I am your sister. I don't want to see you hurt." she told him in a very sincere tone. Drox relaxed and sat back to take all of this in.

The female wolf at Drox's side was so deep in slumber that she didn't even hear the approach of the second set of paws approaching the pair through the mud. Vega was off in dreamland, where she didn't have to worry about being tracked down by this mysterious pack, and she and Drox could live in peace and quiet, and no longer had to be constantly on the move. The blonde fae was only rudely snapped back into reality by the sound of Drox yelling at someone and the voice of a female. Icy blue eyes snapping open in surprise, Vega nearly jumped but contained her surprise to simply quickly lift her head and rise to her feet. After watching Drox and the unknown female bicker back and forth, she learned that this female that had discovered the pair was in fact Drox's sister. The hairs on the back of Vega's neck stood up again when she learned this, had she come as a spy from the pack? But after further discussion with her, she sounded sincere enough, maybe she was on their side after all.

Drox stood quiet for a period of time. The sun began to shine it's bright yellow early morning light over the horizon. The muddy pass had dryed a little from the nights fair amount of rainfall. Drox stared at the ground as though flattered that Nile would do such a thing. They hadn't seen eachother since they were pups. Nile was proud of Drox for raising himself so well. Yet Drox wanted Nile to leave Sig and the dictator that was their father. "Leave Sig and join us." Drox said without lifting his head. "But father would disown me." Nile replied concerned. "What does it matter, you're old enough to go off on your own. You're in Sig by proxy only." Drox pleaded with Nile. Drox and Vega needed a pair of extra eyes. Also, Nile knew the layout of not only the pass but the lands beyond. Drox had not ventured pass here and did not know the lands. Nile stood there contemplating.

Vega's eyes darted back and forth between the siblings, eyes and ears open to their conversation. Still quite drowsy from coming out of such a deep slumber she only was able to hear bits and pieces of their catching up. From what she heard Drox was trying to convince his sister Nile to excommunicate herself from his family pack Sig, and join up with the rebel pair. Vega was kind of cautious about the proposition of a new wolf hanging around, as was her nature. The she-wolf was very untrusting of strangers, especially other females, for she knew from personal experience how easy it was for a she-wolf to cheat and deceive. However, the fact that Drox seemed to fully trust his sister was a reassurance to Vega, however, she still wasn't 100% sold just yet. For the time being however, she and Drox could've really used the extra help so Vega was more keen on the idea than she usually would be. Still, the cautious ways of the blonde fae would always overrule.

Drox also had other motives behind inviting Nile into their rebellious duo. When he was to face of with Dred, Nile could pose as a trader and dupe Dred. But his main motive as of now was an extra set of eyes and nose and her navigation skills. "But what if they suspect that you killed me and speed up their pursuit?" She asked Drox. "Then so be it. I'll have to face them eventually." He said in response. Drox walked onto the mud of the pass and watched as the sun rose inch by inch over the brown horizon of muddy earth. Nile was very close to Dred and knew his schemish plots. That would also prove as a plus. Drox had been away for so long that he had lost the ability to predict Dred's next move. "Dred may have the courage to take the faster route that led directly to the pass through the lands of Sallin." Dred said while looking at the red sun that had just a sliver visible. "That would prove to be a big mistake. They'll get killed." Nile said walking slowly towards Drox. "It's a risk that Dred would be willing to take. Even if him and Sansril are the only ones to make it through." Drox replied. "Yea father would give anything to get to you right now. He would do that." she confessed. "So that's just another reason why you should stay and run with us." Drox said turning his head towards Nile. Drox turned back to watch the sunrise.

Vega just sat off to the sidelines, watching the brother and sister discuss the means of how Drox's father was to set off and find him. She didn't feel like she needed to interject anything into the conversation and much rather hung off to the side then burst in with something idiotic. The watcher, Vega rather fancied the title, she was much more of a spy then a warrior, 'Even father knew that..' she thought. Her keen observational skills and her slim frame made her an excellent scout, able to get places at speeds only capable of wolves of her type, and also able to watch and observe without being seen by the enemy. Maybe this was why she wasn't 'as' cautious being around Nile as she would be with other wolves. Nile was very similar to Vega in this way, and it was nearly obvious what her position in the Sig pack was to be. Vega turned away from the siblings, her attention now focused on the sunrise.
