Drox came to the beginning of the pass and layed down. The weather was very cold and damp. Dew still on the grass. They had been up all night running away from the cemetery. Drox felt that they had just avoided his old pack. Drox looked around. He was laying in ankle deep mud. He noticed this but didn't care, he was exhausted. Then he saw that the land surrounding the pass was desolate. This might turn out to be a problem. "We'll sleep here, the pack doesn't hunt in the daytime." he said looking at Vega.

The blonde she-wolf had been running a stride ahead of Drox, just as she was instructed to, staying within his sight range through that long and tiring night. She stopped next to where Drox had laid down, panting softly, with her tongue hanging out of the side of her maw. Finally cooling her body down, she then noticed how cold and hostile this environment was. Personally, Manor Cemetery seemed even more welcoming than this pass. Vega shivered as the wind howled, shaking the skeletal limbs of the barren trees around the pass. She slowly eased down next to Drox in the mud and muck and curled in close to him for warmth, nuzzling her snout along his tired shoulders.

Drox looked down at Vega. A smile crept across his usually expressionless face. By her side he was happy. He decided it best if he not sleep while Vega is. The pack might still be on the move and he wanted to make sure they weren't ambushed in their slumber. The moon was moving across the night sky slowly. Every hour it casted a different shadow on the pass. Drox was exhausted and fatigued from running through the night. But that didn't phase him. He was going to protect Vega at all costs. Getting no sleep was worth it for him. Without her Drox would be nothing. He would be the heartless wolf he was before she came in. Drox whispered "I love you." as the sun began to rise over the horizon.

Vega lay curled up against Drox's side, her head resting at his paws. Her fiery blue orbs lay hidden beneath their lids as she slept soundly and contentedly. It was amazing, ever since the accident Vega had been having trouble sleeping due to being plagued by terrible nightmares and flashbacks of what had happened. But now, at Drox's side, she slept peacefully, with no thoughts whatsoever besides pleasant dreams.
As the sun came up Vega felt its intense heat beginning to beat down on the two wolves, though the air pouring through Dante's pass still made even the warm sun seem hidden and chilled. Vega woke up at the soft and subtle tones of Drox's voice. Her first movement was a smile appearing across her maw, and then, her eyes still closed, she replied, "I love you too." Vega then opened her eyes to look at Drox and she smiled warmly, "Good morning," she said with a toothy yawn.

"Good morning." Drox replied. His face expressionless. "Soon we must begin moving. The pass is long and the pack will be here by tomorrow." Drox told Vega. Drox was worried that the pack was further along than he told her. But he did not want to worry Vega and send her into a possible panic. The pack was 8 strong. It was composed of the alpha, Drox's father Dred, his Mother Sansril and his siblings. Seeing the size of himself and Acksel, he knew that they were no match for the five males of the pack. If they were to get surrounded they'd be dead. He was going over the possible situation in his head. "If we do come across my pack, run. Run away as fast as you can. They will not chase you. I will face them myself." He told her sternly. He did not want her hurt or possibly dead. He loved her far too much.

Rising slowly to her feet Vega nodded, "Yes, we must put some distance between us and them before nightfall," Vega added. In the back of her mind, Vega was starting to get a little paranoid, and the spooky scenery around them didn't help to ease her mind at all. Drox's pack could already be quickly closing in, and in the open vastness of the pass, there was no where that they could hide. This terrible truth scared her even more, cause without anywhere to hide, the pair was nearly a sitting target. Vega stood next to Drox, not letting her inner paranoia get to her.
Upon hearing Drox's request Vega frowned and shook her head, "And leave you to be outnumbered and killed? Not a chance," she said earnestly. Even fighting to the death, Vega would refuse to leave Drox on his own.

Drox wanted to yell at her, but his heart wouldn't let him. He nuzzled his head against hers. "Lets start moving." Drox said. The sun was now fully visible and they must start moving to ramain ahead of the pack. He didn't want to talk anymore about the possibility of the pack catching up. As soon as he looked away from Vega a white blur moving across the muddy pass caught his eye. Drox's hunting instict took over and he hunched low to the ground. His ears perked up to better hear. His nose moved across the ground following the scent. It was a hare. A delicacy among wolf packs. He began running full speed after it. It was a good sized hare. Drox followed the hare every turn. Finally catching up to it and killing it. He brought it back to Vega for breakfast. He sat down, panting with tongue hanging. A smile crept across his face as he panted. He was with her.

Vega just sighed at him and pushed her head up against his, nodding in agreement that it would be in their best insterest if they cleared out as soon as possible. But then, a large hare flew over the muddy soil where the soil wolves were standing, and Drox launched after it. Vega hung back and waited behind for Drox to return. The valiant hunter returned a few moments later, the limp white hare hanging limply from his great jaws. Breakfast was served!
Dividing the portions like she had done with their feline feast, she gave half of the meal to Drox, sitting across from him, she looked up to see him smile, which caused a coy smile to appear on her light features.

Drox began to eat. He swiftly ate what was left of the hare. "We must hurry. The pack will be here shortly." He repeated again this time with a little more harsh tone. They had delayed their departure due to breakfast. Drox had not slept, he remained up and attentive through the night to make sure that the pack did not ambush them. Drox was powered merely by adrenaline now.
The sun was halfway through the sky by the time they began moving. They had wasted too much time letting their food digest. The pace was set by Vega who was a few paces ahead of Drox. Drox always looking around and keeping very alert. Many of the regular travelers that used this pass had already gone. So the only worry on Drox's mind was his pack or possibly one of his many rivals. Drox made many rivals during the year he was with his adoptive pack. Including the alpha of the pack. He wouldn't be amazed if the alpha had sent a search party to find him. Many people wanted him dead. This worried Drox due to the fact that he had Vega with him. But if anything was to happen he would have it happen to himself. Vega was too important to him to lose.

With a simple, hurried nod, Vega expressed her agreement with Drox's wish to leave immediately. The worry for their safety grew within her mind, she wondered how much Drox's pack had closed the gap between the fleeing wolves and them. After digesting their food, Vega nodded to Drox, "Ready to go?" she asked him. With a quick and agile leap Vega sprang into a gallop, trying not to sink into the muddy pathway.
With Drox following close behind and keeping a watchful eye on the environment around them, Vega's heart began to pulse with adrenaline. The stress and danger of the situation had definitely upped the ante for their survival.

Drox began to feel the fatigue set in from the sleepless night. But he told himself that he must keep up with Vega who was fully rested. He kept going though knowing the pack was more than likely on the move now and would be closing in on the pass by sundown. Drox looked around at the barren trees and brush covered ground that surrounded the pass. He became distracted and when he looked up Vega was a good 10 feet ahead of him. It seemed he used all of his strength just to catch up to her.
As they passed an abandoned wagon, a small group of wolves emerged from behind a group of trees. There were 4 of them. Two of them seemed younger then Drox and the other two seemed much older than him. Drox screeched to a halt.

Vega kept running, as the sun began to hang low on the horizon once again her worry only grew more. Keeping ahead of Drox there came a point where she couldn't hear his steady steps behind her. Her gaze turned behind her and she noticed that Drox had dropped a good distance behind her. Fatigue seemed to set in with Drox and Vega slowed her pace so that Drox wouldn't have to work as hard to keep up.
Then the two wolves passed by an old abandoned wagon, probably the transportation device of some traveling merchant or family that was left behind. Or maybe, something got the owner of the wagon, something evil in this ominous pass had grabbed the owner, leaving the wagon on its own. As her imagination took hold, trying to make up a story for the wagon's presence, she barely noticed the four wolves that slipped out ahead of them. When she did, however, her eyes widened and she skidded to a halt.

Drox stepped ahead of Vega. "Stay behind me." He said to Vega with his eyes stuck to the four males ahead of him. "Who are you and what do you want?." Drox asked the pack. "We heard that Dredinity and Sig were on the hunt for you." The biggest male of the pack said. "My father!? You talked to my father?!?" He yelled at the leader. "Where are they?" "They were leaving the cemetery when we got word about you. You killed Acksel. Dred wants you dead." The leader said angrily. "Well then, let Dred and his pack face me! If he wants me dead he should kill me himself." He screamed at the leader as he showed his teeth and began growling.

The hairs on the back of Vega's neck stood on end as the four males came in closer, staying pressed right behind Drox. As the obvious leader of the small group stepped forward and began to speak, Drox also stepped forward. As the two males argued, Vega kept her eyes peeled and locked onto the other three males, who had begun to circle the pair very slowly, a few of them chuckling in a sinister manner.
Vega kept her gaze locked onto the three, in case they were to try and ambush the coupled while Drox was distracted by the leader. She hunched low to the ground and pulled her ears back, if any of them were to make a threatening move, Vega was ready for them. Pulling her lips back, she menacingly flashed her fangs and a deep, guttural growl rumbled deep within her throat.

Both males started circling as they were talking. Both showing their fangs and growling. "Step down, I don't want to fight you." Drox told the leader. "Dred wants you dead. I told him I would assist him with that wish." The leader said in a menacing tone. The leader lunged at Drox. Drox moved quickly out of the way as the male challenger slid past him. Drox yelled through his growl "STEP DOWN!" This was his final warning. The leader once again lunged at Drox and this time hit his target. Drox was on the ground with the leader on top of him. Drox slashed at his face and caught his right cheek. Blood began seeping from the wound. The leader jumped off of Drox with that. Drox jumped to his feet and lunged at the leader, landing his claws in the leaders back. The leader yelped in pain as Drox pushed his claws further in his flesh. Then Drox dragged his claws down the male's torso. Drox backed off the male who was on the ground in excruciating pain, blood oozing out of his torso. Drox sat next to Vega as the other 3 males ran away hurridly after seeing their leader fall. The leader let out one final breath and dropped his head to the mud. He was dead. Bled to death. "We must continue." He said to Vega unphased by the death.
