Arnold sulked, glaring at the brown wolf that laid in the sand a tail length or two away from him.
"Jeez, Ellie!" he growled. "You bit me! Right on my tail! What was that for?" The gray wolf twitched the tip of his tail in aggitation. "Well?" he added impatiently.
"Because you wouldn't listen," Ellie replied softly, not even looking at his friend. "You were going to pick a fight with that lone wolf back there." The brown wolf rested his head on large, round, paws.
"So?" Arnold snorted "I could have taken him! You know that! And you bit me! I still can't believe that!"
"Could and should are completely different things," Ellie whimpered shaking his head. "Besides, how else was I going to get your attention. You obviously weren't listening to what I was saying."
The gray wolf slumped his hind quarters into a sit and replied dryly, "Perhaps you were speaking into my deaf ear."
"Ha!" Ellie scoffed quietly. "You really shouldn't try picking fights all of the time. You really need to listen to someone other than yourself someti-"
"I don't need to do anything!" Arnold snarled, cutting the other wolf off. "Especially, when it comes to listening to the opinions of sickly, waste of fur and space! I am alpha here, and there is a reason for that! I don't know why I even bother with you!" Ellie, though the larger of the two, shrunk back, whimpering like a scolded pup. Arnold's eyes softened as he looked down at his companion. "Ellie..." he whined. "Ah...you know I didn't mean that."
"I know what you meant," Ellie sighed, turning his head away from the smaller gray wolf.
"Ellie?" The brown wolf didn't respond. "C'mon, Ellie! Hey, Ellie! Sorry, man. I didn't mean it." Arnold padded over to his friend and pawed the ground eagerly and acted like a playful pup, whimpering non-threateningly.
Ellie sighed, "You know I can't stay mad when you get like that." Arnold stoof up straight, wagging his tail proudly. Ellie shook his head, a grin creeping onto his maw, "Alright, you got me trained. Go on and gloat."
"Oh, I will," Arnold grinned, marching down the beach with his tail held high not caring who or what he bumped into.

While Arnold might not care who he ran into, The Brigadier most certainly did. He cared even more about who ran into him. Especially when all he was doing was trotting down the shore, minding his own damn business. The nerve of some people...! There was no real damage done, but it was a matter of conduct. The collision (or rather the surprise of the collision) caused the Briard to drop his midday meal. A hare, it was. Not a picturesque one, nooo. Instead of being a juicy, tender specimen, it was small and scrawny. The dog thought it was better than nothing. Plus, he was famished, so it would have to do. "Oof. Wa'ch wot yer doin' boy."The remark was loud, authoritative, as old Brig seemed to believe he outranked the pair, despite the fact that both happened to be larger than him and neither were under his "command". "Wasn' that yew yellin' 'n' shoutin'?" he questioned, staring intently at the wolf through a curtain of which greatly obscured his view. Giving his head a shake, he peered out at the pair, having a few seconds of unimpeded vision. "Ooh, two of ya 're there?" The fur mess of fur settled back to their original position, once more partially blinding the herd dog. Temporarily forgetting his meal, the shaggy Briard awaited the reply [ooc] A bit short and crappy, sorry 'bout that Nachty. [/ooc]

(It's not crappy As long as you're not giving me one liners I'll be happy as a clam) Arnold grunted as he collided with the shaggy, stranger dog. After the grunt his first reaction was to growl, but the sound died in his throat as the smaller canine began to address him. The dog's tone made Arnold want to bite the annoying creature's nose off, but he restrained himself. Could and should are completely different things, he reminded himself of Ellie's words internally. Still, the urge was a hard one to resist so he clenched his jaw shut firmly. "I don't have to watch anything," Arnold snarled, hackles raised. He could imagine Ellie shaking his head at him, but he'd held his tongue long enough to let this dog finish his sentence. That was progress enough in the gray wolf's eyes. He thought his tone would send the other canine away but the fuzzy mop of a dog continued to speak, and questions no less! "Yeah it was me yellin'," the larger animal snorted, thoroughly displeased with this interrogation. "What's it to you anyway, fuzz face?" Arnold pressed his ears flat against his head and curled his lips in a silent snarl. He was about to make another remark on the dog's final words when he felt a small bit of pressure on his tail. He snapped his head to look behind him to see Ellie gripping the gray wolf's tail in his mouth and eying him. Arnold whined in annoyance only to have Ellie bite a little harder. Finally, Arnold got the message and his snarl faded. Only then did Ellie release him. Calmness clearly forced he replied, "Yeah there's two of us. So what? There's only one of you." It was only now that the wolf noticed the scrawny rabbit that the dog had dropped. He thought for a moment of taking it, but he could still feel Ellie watching him and he had to remind himself yet again, Could and should are completely different things.

The wolf first snarled at him, obviously not too happy that he was interrupted while strutting around the beach like he owned the damn thing and then was interrogated by some strange dog. Still, what had happened to the whole 'respect your elders' thing? Having proclaimed that he didn't have to watch anything, Brigadier figured he was your run of the mill young jackass who felt entitled to the world. The dog raised his "eyebrows" as if in surprise at the young one's reaction.
Touchy, touchy. Someone needed to learn to control their temper. Having his original theory confirmed, that this idiot had been the one hollering, he gave a nod, an unconscious action. "'nly curi'sity, private," he said in return, apparently assessing the wolf to be of low rank. He eyed the other wolf, tugging on the cocky one's tail. A contemplative frown took up residence on his heavily furred face (although detecting it wasn't all that easy). What a weird pair.
Turning towards the one that had yet to speak, the larger of the pair, the dog spoke. "Ooh, v'ry good. Ya taught'm to count." Brig flashed the stranger a smile, a friendly smile, as this one either seemed to be less hostile and hotheaded than other. This one had yet to be given a 'rank', as the shaggy dog wasn't quite sure to place him. Following the gaze of private jackass, Brigadier noticed the hare. Funny how you could forget a meal so easily. In a manner that almost suggested a challenge, the hefty dog place a paw on his prize and dragged it slowly through the sand, placing it a bit more in reach.

(("private jackass" That made my day))
Ellie grinned back, relieved that this stranger didn't seem hostile. The brown wolf pricked his ears forward, ready to respond, but out of habit he glanced over at Arnold. He was used to being over powered by the gray wolf's voice in conversation. However, his friend was uncharacteristically silent. The smaller wolf's snout wrinkled in annoyance, and Ellie could tell he was thinking up something really nasty to say. If Ellie was going to get a word in he'd have to do it now.
"He can do more than just count," the lanky brown wolf, said in his usual soft tone though there was a hint of unfamiliar amusement. Arnold let out a surprised grunt, and Ellie heard Arnold's teeth click together as they did when he was annoyed.
"I'm not an idiot you know," Arnold snorted, addressing both canines before him. However, his attention was completely on Ellie as he continued saying, "And I'll take care of this." Ellie felt his tail droop slightly, but he wasn't surprised. In fact, that was his friend's best attempt at being subtle. Ellie knew too well that the gray wolf's temper could have flared up much worse. Taking that as a small victory, the brown wolf let his posture go more submissive so as to avoid any further conflict.
Arnold turned back to furry dog and looked him over. "Say, what's a house critter like you doing out here on the beach anyway? Don't you have some humans to cuddle up to?" Arnold had an ugly forced grin on his maw as he spoke. Personally, he found any sort of tamed animal hardly an animal at all. Living with humans...it was down right unnatural.
