Frequently Asked Question about Role Playing
and Examples on How to Improve your Role Play
Please Note: Before you begin to Role Play, please read the forum rules.
There may be those who find Role Playing difficult. They may find that they do not know what to put into their Role Play post. Here, I shall answer some Frequently Asked Question, and I will show you basic examples on how to make your Role Play longer, and better.
What sort of animals are allowed?
Here, you can Role Play as a domestic dog, a wolf or a feline. Small mammals such as fox, mice or rabbit are also allowed. See the character rules for more details.
What sort of dog can I play as?
Any domestic canine. For information on heights and weights please read the height and weight rules. Visit this website for information on most canines.
Creating a character
Where should I go to create my character?
Simply go to the Character Directory and you'll see an icon, prompting you to create a 'new thread'. Click on this icon, and you can now create a character profile.
What do I include in my profile?
There is a default profile template that you may wish to use. This has all the basic information required to create a new character.
Are there any rules when creating a new charcter?
Yes. Please visit the character creation rules.
I wish to include a picture of my character, but I am not very good at art.
Do not worry about being able to draw or not being able to draw. Some members of the forum have kindly created templates that you may wish to use. Please read the players rules before you use any of their templates.
Where to Role Play
Where should I go if I want to Role Play?
There are many places were you can go to Role Play here in the Kloteck Omen Role Play. If you are looking to join a wolf pack, then you should first consult the Alpha of the wolf pack. Different wolf packs have different rules concerning new members. Most will be happy and welcome you with open arms. Other packs are not as welcoming and they might seem mean to you when you first attempt to join. Be patient with them, as the way in which they act to newcomers will be the way in which they act to everyone.
Which wolf pack is best for my character?
That depends. If your character is a mean character then Sallin is where you should go. See the Sallin information thread for more details.
Whilst Sallin is for the strong, more mean characters, Arnlan would be suitable for any personality. See the Arnlan information thread for more details
Please note that Sallin wolves hate dogs, and so Synl takes them in for protection.
But I do not want to join a pack at the moment. Is there anywhere I can go?
You can visit a neutral area. A neutral area is a place where there are no ruling characters, and the lands are open to everyone. Scatterstone Beach and Manor Cemetery are two places were you can go. There are no rules too these lands, however many stray characters will no doubt be wandering those areas, so do not expect to be alone.
What if I do not want to Role Play as a wolf, I want to be a feline or any other small mammal?
There is an area for felines to Role Play in such as Semone. If you have any intention on Role Playing as small animals such as a fox, a mouse or a deer, expect to be hunted. The wolves and the large felines of the forum will see you as a potential meal. Be careful.
Areas for Role Play
Felines*
Semone
Humans and domestic canines
Hallow Village
Rakine Port
Dogs
Synl
Wolves
Arnlan
Sallin
* Felines can Role Play in any area. It is not recommended that they visit wolf pack territories. Like dogs, cats can be Role Played wherever a human can be.
I have created a thread but no one has replied!
There can be a few reasons for no one replying to your thread. Perhaps they do not wish to Role Play with your character because it does not interest them. Perhaps you are posting very short sentences, and in only one paragraph. Maybe you are writing too much, and the other player feels they cannot produce as much writing as you do. Or maybe everyone else is too busy to join your thread.
I can see other characters alone in a thread. Can I reply to them?
You can take part in any Role Play thread if you want to. Be aware that some threads may state in the title that they are private, and so you must seek permission from the creator to join in. This applies only to neutral areas.
If you are a member of a wolf pack, Synl for example, then you would not be permitted to take part in Role Play in Sallin. The wolfs of Sallin would no doubt kill your character on the spot of you attempted to take part in their RolePlay.
Help! The other characters are being mean to mine!
There are several possible reasons for another character to be mean to your character.
- Your character may be trespassing in another wolf’s territory .e.g. Your character may have intruded into a pack land and the pack members will basically be protecting their lands.
- Your character may be persistently irritating the other character .e.g. if your character is annoying another character who does not wish to be bugged by others
- The other character may have a mean personality, and their reaction to you is one which they give to every character
- The other character may dislike the way in which your character is being or expressing itself .e.g. The other character may not like your character if it is loud and noisy
How to improve your Role Playing
What can I do to improve my sentences and make my posts longer?
There are many ways in which one can improve their Role Play. Be more descriptive, add dialogue… Here is a list of what you may consider adding.
-Describe the area surrounding your character e.g. The ground felt moist beneath his paws as Bob wandering through the thick foliage of the forest
-Describe what your character can see e.g. Bob could faintly see a figure in the distance. It appeared to be another cat, but his judgement on distance was not too great to be sure.
-Describe what your character can smell e.g. The putrid scent of rotting vegetation wafted to Bob, and the smell swirled in his nostrils.
-Describe what your character can hear e.g. Bob could not hear the voice of Obo, as the thunder boomed above them.
-Describe the way in which your character moves e.g. Bob moved swiftly and elegantly, weaving in and out of the trees
-Describe what your character looks like e.g. Bob was small, and his rib cage jutted from the sides of his body. His body was really only skin and bones; he was alarmingly thin
-Describe how your character feels e.g. Bob was sad, but yet relieved that Obo had died. At least now, he was no longer suffering
-Describe your characters reaction to the appearance of another character e.g. Bob could feel his heart thumping off of his chest and Obo pounced in front of him unexpectedly.
-Use Dialogue e.g. " The weather sure is fine today is it not?"
-Describe the way in which your character is speaking e.g. " Who are you?" Bob growled/ demanded/ inquired/ asked excitedly/ angrily/ said quietly/ gently/ warmly
OK, I have been more descriptive, but no one has responded too my thread!
Give it time and do not complain to players, or whine at them to join your thread. They will come to you if they are interested by what you have written. If you go around other areas of the forum whimpering because no one will Role Play with you, expect other players to ignore you.
You said if I wrote descriptively, then others would reply
No, I said that they may reply. Some players may already be in other threads Role Playing with other characters. Please be patient. Whilst you wait for a possible response, why not join in a thread you see has not yet received a response. Then the character if that thread will have someone to Role-Play with, and so will you.
What if I am not very good at spelling words?
Use the spellchecker. If you spell check your words before you reply then your post will look much neater, and this may attract other players to you if they can see you can spell big, long, difficult words.
Do I have to make my posts better?[/b]
No. It is not essential for you to improve your posts. If you are happy to continue Role Playing in the way that you do, then that is fine. We do however encourage you try and better your posts. Again, you do not need to if you do not wish to.
Role Play also helps one improve their vocabulary and their writing skills, so being creative and decriptive helps one become better in those areas.
How to improve a short sentence and change it into a descriptive paragraph.
Bob sat on the ground looking at a bug.
This is short, and has no descriptive words in it at all. To improve this sentence you can describe the ground that he is sitting on, what sort of 'bug' he is looking at. Describe the way in which he is looking at the bug. Look.
A male named Bob sat on the ground staring at a bug. There was no grass on the ground, just leaves and twigs. The bug was black and it was moving towards a leaf.
Notice that I also added in Bob's gender. Of course, you do not have to add the gender, but so that other players know what they are playing with, it would be best for you to mention this. One can further improve this small paragraph.
A male cat who goes by the name of Bob sat on the cold hard ground. He was surrounded by bare trees, and their leaves were scattered on the earth. Bob watched as a small black beetle scurried on the ground near to him. He watched how it was moving quickly to a dry leaf that was curmbling. Bob watched through piercing blue eyes, as the beetle disappeared underneath the leaf.
Now, I have added the feeling of the ground. We now know what type of animal he is. I have also mentioned how the trees are bare, and most of their leaves were scattered on the ground. What type of bug has also been mentioned, and where the bug was going was also mentioned. Bob's physical appearance( his eyes ), were also described as blue and piercing.
A young male cat, who goes by the name of Bob, is sitting alone in a quiet forest. He has fine white fur, with black tipped ears. His eyes were wide, and his piercing blue eyes gleamed in the sunlight. The season was autumn, and the leaves had fallen, leaving behind bare trees. Bob noticed the lack of grass on the earth, and how the soil was scattered with leaves and twigs. Bob's large ears twitched to the sound of a small bug scurrying across the ground. He looked down to a black beetle crawling over the fallen foliage. The little bug is crawling towards a recently fallen leaf, and Bob observes, with great interest, as it vanishes beneath the leaf.
Bob has now been described further, and a picture now begins to form in the readers head. We know that he is young, and that he is alone. We know that he has fine white fur, with black tipped ears. We know that the season is late autumn and that many of the trees have shed their leaves. We know that there is not much grass in this area, and that the soil is covered in leaves and twigs. We know his ears are large, and that a small black beetle is wandering around. We know that Bob is watching the beetle with interest as it goes under the leaf.
There are no limitations as to what can put in their post. This final paragraph would make a decent opening paragraph to a new topic. Other players already have a good idea about what is happening, and so they may feel compelled to join in.
Other Questions
May I use this information for my own forum?
No you may not. No one has permission to use any information on this thread. If you do, that is stealing ( plagiarism ) and that is against teh law. If I catch anyone doing this, then they will die >_>;.
Fine then. I'll steal the other stuff written on the Information Board that Kavhie wrote.
Don't even bother. Think of your own rules and information to supply to your forum. Again if you get caught doing this then you will die by Scrii and Nakomi. (;
I may add more to this later and if there is anything anyone would like to see up here, please do not hesitate to tell me by replying to this topic with your suggestion. Thank you.
