Mother: Riverwind Father: Rhondo Siblings: Dameon[m], Lyonia[f] Friends: - Best Friend: - Enemies: - Crush: - Mate: - Children: - Alphas: -
Riverwind: You tried to understand my pain, but you just can't. You said you understood me, understood what it felt like to not belong, but you were wrong. I am neither a wolf nor a dog. I don't fit into anything other than who I am. Your wolfish looks are what I inherited. At least I have that.
Rhondo: A German shepherd dog. You were bound by the fates to serve man, but I was chosen for a different path. You betrayed me. What for? Searching out a place where I no longer had suffer because of my "tainted" existence, one that you caused? I hate you and because of you, I don't trust dogs.
Demeon: Older brother, you tried to fit in with the dogs. It was easy for you, it looked more like our father than I ever could. You and Lyonia both look like dogs and I think it is fitting you died by the fangs of a wolf.
Lyonia: Stuck up and petty, materialistic, too. You've vanished from my life and I am not particularly upset about it.

At first glance, Maelu seems to be distanced from the world. She acts as if she has no attachments to anyone or anything. However, the truth is that this only done to protect herself. She has experienced great betrayal and hardship despite her age and so, she isn't very trusting of others. Maelu is often lonely, but not by her own choice. Dogs tend to see her as a mismatched creature. Also, Maelu fears dogs do to her past. She starts trembling and acts submissive should one come near. She thinks she is more like a wolf, and so, she gets along better with them. That said, it should be known that Maelu can howl just as well as any wolf and uses this to her advantage by howling to frighten off dogs.
If you hang around her long enough and actually prove to her that she can place her trust in you, you'll quickly discover that she is actually quite bright and fun. She is very creative and could be considered the canine equivalent to a rhapsody. She makes up little poems and songs and them recites them, or she'll tell a story to her friend. Maelu is rather prone to flinching after the beatings she received in her past, but the advantage to this is she has fast reactions and can turn about a fight fairly quickly. She is very protective of those that she has allowed to get close to her heart and will do about anything to make sure that they are happy and healthy.

Maelu's birth took place in the spring in a small roaming band of merchant gypsies that roamed the European lands. Her parents were an odd set. Her mother was a wolf, whose white fur contrasted against the blacks and tans of the dogs. Her father was a German Shepherd whose size a ferociousness was well known. The pregnancy had been a surprise to both parents, but they were happy to have children.
The had known that their children would be wolf-dogs, but they were very concerned for Maelu. Even at birth, she looked more lupine than her siblings. In her first weeks of life, she howled -much to the embarrassment of her father and praise of her mother-, and had other behaviors that were not normally seen dogs. Her two siblings, a male and a female, took more after their father. Dameon and Lyonia were able to assimilate into the dog pack with relative ease, but for little, shy Maelu, that was an impossible task. Her mother before her had dealt with the harsh reality that she was a wolf among dogs. It was Maelu that inherited the taunting and the teasing and the physical punishment.
The fall of her first year was a hard one and the deer had migrated into more plentiful fields, causing the nomadic group to follow them. The territory was thick with trees and the thick musk of the forest. Maelu would often escape into the trees, finding sanctuary there. Whenever the dogs beatings and harsh words grew to be too much, she would limp off into the forest to lick her wounds and allow herself to finally cry. After once such encounter with the offspring of the alpha -who actually encouraged them to attack, Maelu hobbled her way into a clearing sporting a severely bleeding shoulder and a concussion. She blacked out just as she reached it.
When she awoke, she found herself in a strange cave. Instantly, she was afraid. Where was she? Who had taken her? It was then she noticed that she was not bound with ropes and harsh collars as the dogs often were. Instead, she was free to move about. With an aching shoulder and her head pounding, Maelu got to her feet and limped to the mouth of the cave. Outside, she found two wolves standing guard. At the sight of them, Maelu recoiled and shrunk down onto herself. One of them looked at her with pity, but the other merely shook his head and barked twice. Maelu, who was still wondering what she had gotten herself into, found out soon enough as an elderly wolf came forth from amongst the twenty or so wolves. He was kind and gentle. He asked her if she needed anything, to which Maelu demanded answers. And he was more than willing to supply them.
The elderly wolf was Taelu and he was actually her great grandfather. Her mother was his granddaughter. He told the tale of how he had stumbled across the unconscious Maelu while out on a patrol and had asked the three wolves accompanying him to bring her to his den. He said that he had ordered her wound be treated and that he be told when she awoke. Maelu, who was simply stunned, asked him why he had not turned her away. His response was this: "You're expecting that I would have left you for dead? Child, you are family." Maelu couldn't understand. Why was he not treating her as the dogs did? She asked him if he cared about her mixed heritage, to which he said he didn't care because she was half wolf and that was good enough for him.
Maelu spent the better of week with them. It was only when her mother became worried and came looking that Maelu even considered leaving her newfound home. She finally felt like she belonged somewhere and for the first time she could remember, she was content with the way things were. Her mother told her that she was being foolish, that she had no business living with wolves. Maelu grew angry at those words and did something she never knew she could. She began to yell at her mother. She insulted her, called her close-minded, and blamed her for all the things that had happened to her. She told Riverwind that she didn't didn't understand anything about her struggles and that she had best keep her nose out of where it didn't belong. Needless to say, Riverwind was left speechless by her quiet daughter's outburst and returned to camp to talk. Once there, she talked with her mate about what to do and Rhondo told her that he'd handle it.
And that he did. Maelu had stayed again in the pack. She was asleep under an ancient oak when she felt the sharp but familiar sensation of teeth in her flank. She began to trash, only to have paw collide with her head, knocking her into a dazed state. She curled up tight around herself, tears streaming down her face as her attackers tore into her. She bit her tongue to stop her yelps of pain. She began to beg to be killed, for the torment to end. Her cries rose in both volume and pitch until she had alerted Taelu to what was going on. He came to her defense and chased away the ones that were attacking. As they fled, she realized it was her father and her brother, along with a few others. What happened next frightened Maelu. Some of the wolves that she had made friends of had discovered her wounds and took off after the wolves. Her father and brother were killed and then thrown into a cave to rot.
Days passed and Maelu healed slowly. Infection set in and she began quite ill. She coughed and sputtered and was delirious with fever. During this time, her mother came to visit her. Riverwind told Maelu that Lyoinia had disappeared off to only Fenrir knew, and that the two of them were exiled for crimes against the pack. This news seemed to help her condition, for she got better over the following days. Once back in good health, she made a decision that was quite hard. She would live the pack. She needed to see the world, to explore, and to get away from her past. Everyone told her she was safe, but she didn't believe them. She had experienced far too much pain to let it continued like it had been, and so, she said her goodbyes. Her mother cried and told her to stay, that she loved her very much. Maelu told her mother that those were just words and that she'd have another litter one day, one with a wolf.
And so, that winter after the first snowfall, Maelu left the pack for good with plans to never return. She disappeared from the minds of all but Taelu and her mother, who still hope that Maelu will see reason and one day return. Maelu traveled here and there, meeting new people and exploring the lands she had previously not known existed. One day, she met a dog by the name of John that she talked with briefly, but beyond that, she really hasn't done much. Now she simply wounds aimlessly, looking for a place that she can call her own and perhaps find a pack that would be accepting of her. She still yet holds out hope.
"Things haven't always gone the way I've needed them to, but I am still alive. I hope, love, live " - Maleu

Beauty From Pain -Superchick
The lights go out, all around me. One last candle to keep out the night. And then the darkness surrounds me. I know I'm alive but I feel like I've died. And all that left is to accept that it's over. My dreams ran like sand through the things that I made I try keep warm, but I just colder. I feel like I'm slipping away.
After all this past, I still will remain. After I've cried my last, there'll be beauty from pain. Though it won't be today, some day I'll hope again and there'll be beauty from pain. You will bring beauty from pain.
My whole world is the pain inside me. The best I can do is just through the day. When life before is only a memory, I wonder why god lets me walk through this place. And though I can't understand why this happened, I know that I will when I look back someday And see how you brought beauty from ashes and made me as gold purified through these flames.
After all this past, I still will remain. After I've cried my last, there'll be beauty from pain. Though it won't be today, some day I'll hope again and there'll be beauty from pain. You will bring beauty from my pain.
Here I am at the end of me. Tried to hold to what I can't see I forgot how to hope. This nights been so long I cling to your promise there will be a dawn
After all this past, I still will remain. After I've cried my last, there'll be beauty from pain. Though it won't be today, some day I'll hope again and there'll be beauty from pain. You will bring beauty from pain.
