Danny watched with soft awe as Wesley eyed the stone-thrower, and couldn't help thinking that something about the dog didn't quite match up. Sure, he was a friendly guy who seemed pretty 'with it'.. but why had he been walking so unwittingly into the paths of oncoming people as they had walked down the streets of the village? And those blue eyes that had stunned the man behind the market stall.. Danny remembered a old dog from his youth who had belonged to his Master's lady friend, a female Borzoi with white fur and a rasping voice. And blue eyes, just like Wesley's.. He remembered how she would hate not knowing where Danny was, and would constantly bark out to him in order to hear a bark from the Sheltie puppy in reply.
Danny suddenly felt an intense itch in his ear, and with an ungainly stumble to the dusty ground he twisted round to scratch it with his back foot. The sharp shock to his system had shaken him out of his wondering about the dog he was currently sharing company with, and he reminded himself that Wesley had actually asked him a question before he had started going off on one like that.
"I'm guessing, you've been a pet before, and had a bad expirience?"
Danyn smiled wistfully down at the ground as he recounted the happy times spent with his Master.
'Well.. I, umm, I am.. I mean, was a pet, once. I had a man, he looked after me so well.. I loved him so much. But then, then.. he went away.. he was really old, I think. ' Danny wanted to avoid mentioning his Master's death. It would be like admitting to the world what he had put off admitting to himself, that his most beloved person in the world was gone and would never come back.
Danny shook himself over as an end note to his scratching episode, and with an altogether fresher tone of voice, asked Wesley, 'So where do you, uhh, live? Are there any others in this place besides Paradigh?'
