The setting sun sank slowly on the horizon, taking away with it all light save the moon and stars. The colors formed by it's movement blended and combined, bleaching to form a inky black. The stars that hung in the sky sparkled, twinkling and flickering down at the rest of the world, just as the moon smiled.
A cool, calming breeze blew through the night, causing some to shiver, others to seek it from the heat that the day of moments ago had brought upon them. A pair of bi-colored eyes watched all in this darkness, one eye red, the other a shade of blue. The wolf sat, as still as a stone in this moonlit night. His coat blended with the night, the combination of blacks, grey, and white making it hard to locate his figure. Tail twitched back and forth, waiting to see what surprises the nightlife might bring to him.
His head only turned to see the flight of an owl, silently flapping it's wings as it watched for some unsuspecting mouse. He watched it as it dove downward, recalling that that was somewhat like his life. All it had ever gone was downhill since his brother, Tarot, came along with all his weird-ness.
The sea foam spayed up into the air as the waves crashed against the rocks, the tides high, effected by the moon. The water changed colors almost, from light to dark, from blue to black. He watched it do so, forever wondering about his brother, forever hoping to one day, meet up with him again.

Shanda woke with a start. The night breeze brought it's chill into her earthen den beneith the uprooted mass of a fallen tree. She'd been here a few months, all during the winter, so for now, her home stayed dry, cold, but dry. There was a bit of moisture on the wind, the humidity of the sea, and combined with the chill of winter, caused a shiver to run along her body. She didn't want to think of how her home would turn out once spring came and the winter snow began to melt.....it made her remember the mocking voice of another...."the muddy end of the beach..."
Shanda could not go back to sleep. She forced her stiff limbs to move, pushing herself up off the dirt, and crawling out from under the huge root mass of the tree. The cool night breeze hit her in the face, sending a chill racing down her spine. She shook her white pelt vigorously, shedding it of the den's dirt. Her black tipped ears perked....this night felt strange for some reason....maybe her friend on the south end of the beach was "looking"....her ears tilted back as she shook the thoughts from her head....he said that he wouldn't do that....In fact, Shanda had not seen Tarot lately, and had half a mind to take herself to his kingdom, if she could find her way....
She trotted out to edge of the treeline and gazed out at the serene beach. The moon shone brightly and the stars sparkled from the heavens, a sight that never ceased to bring her joy. Shanda walked out onto the sand. Much of the snow was gone from the beach. There was not much movement this fine night, a perfect time for her to walk her claimed beach in peace. She bagan to wander down towards the south, her mind drifting back to the memories of her months here.
A strange scent suddenly came to her sensitive nose. She froze in place, scenses working overtime trying to detect the new smell. The wind blew her long black forelock into her icy blue eyes, causing her to shake them from her view. There....further down the beach....she thought she saw a movement. whatever it was, or wasn't, was blending in with the darkness of the dark treeline.
Shanda had become much more sure of herself this past month, fear becoming less and less of a burden. Staying very alert, her large paws slowly and carefully carried her closer to whatever was down the beach. As she drew closer, her nose definately identified the scent of a stranger....a strange wolf....but as of yet, she couldn't quite see it. She hesitated drawing any closer...it was not wise to come upon another creature you couldn't see....
"Hello? Is there someone over there?" she called out, hoping that who ever it was kept the norm....this was a peaceful beach and so far everyone she'd come across had not shown any aggression....
[hope you don't mind me joining....i've been waiting for someone to claim Devi...I've been saving Shanda to rp with this interesting family! hehe!]

As the night wore on, Devi let him mind a moment of freedom, a moment to wander. Drifting back into the reaches of time, he thought back to the time when he and his brother were young, still pups fresh from the den, ready to explore. He had always loved his brother dear, until Tarot acted up, and his parents were the first to notice, leaving Devi all alone in whatever situation they had been in.
"Oh come on, don't leave Mom! I just got it to work!"
But his parents ignored him, paying attention only to Tarot, and it infuriated him, and caused him sorrow, that his dear mother and father would just leave him in the dust for another. He was still their son, no matter what happened, that could not be changed, but he still could help but create a bubbling anger every time it happened. Though he never spoke, no matter how much it hurt. And then, right out of the blue, this brother just had to leave, go do something he wanted, and left them all.
Devi had grown used to the feeling by now of his parents doing that by now, but he could not stand his brother doing the same, and so the broken hearted wolf had promised his parents he would find Tarot and bring him back. But where had it gotten him? Into disaster. He'd come across a wolf of Sallin not long after he sought out his brother, and left the encounter half dead, ripped apart, and wishing dear for someone who cared. He'd found no one after that, and now he didn't expect to see anyone else at this time of night.
Movement and a voice caught his eye moments later, but as it was said, he wasn't ready for it, and it surprised him. He snapped to his feet, whirling around with teeth bared and a snarl in his throat. His bi-colored eyes glinted steel, and his stance was spread wide, as though he thought something might be out to get him at that very moment.
But what greeted his eyes was not a being that look at all a danger, and it was a fae at that very point. Females weren't always out to eat everyone -or so to speak- but still he distrusted, for the Sallin wolf that attacked him, was in fact female. Forever burned upon his mind was that fact, and no longer did he have any trust in that gender of wolf.
The snarl disappeared, but still the pearly knives of his fangs were shone, tail held straight out behind him. The fur on his back was spiked up, and standing on it's end, and with his back arched, he almost looked like a cat puffed up, though much bigger than any house cat could ever be. He could not trust someone who just came upon him, and never would he.
"Who are you?"

The movement in the dark suddenly became fierce, and Shanda immediately regretted having taken this walk. She saw the flash of sharp white teeth, the gleam of the narrowed eyes, and heard the snarl of an angry male. Before she could stop herself, her old fear surfaced it's cowardly head, and she jumped back in surprise, her tail quickly taking its place between her legs, her ears back in fright.
The wolf in the darkness began to take shape. He took a very defensive, untrusting stance, his every hair bristled on end. She'd surprised him, and began to tremble. Guess the run of luck she'd been having couldn't last forever. The snarling coming from the dark colored male subsided, as he seemed to realize that she was just a female, a scared, weakling female.
"Who are you?" his voice came harsh, demanding, and much filled with distrust.
Shanda struggled to find her voice, and at the same time prepared herself to flee if the need arose.
"I..I am Shanda, resident of this peaceful beach," she stammered, emphasing the word peaceful.

His fur started to eb down as he watched her, scared, frightened, and holding her tail between her legs, her ears flat against her skull. He could see her shaking, be it with cold or fear, he could not help but feel sorry he'd came around like that on her. After all, he was not some heartless beast. What if it had been his brother he'd whirled on like that? Wretchedly confused, he dropped himself to a sitting position, no longer baring teeth, or even bristling.
"I..I am Shanda, resident of this peaceful beach,"..She stuttered and stampered, pipping up on that particular word of the sentence. He couldn't blame her really, after all, not many on this beach were aggressive like he was, and many just wanted company. The word struck him. It was one of the things he did have in common with the others, and he longer for it dearly.
"Sorry..if I frightened you..Shanda I..didn't mean it."
He paused in his apology, only to look back up at the crystal orb that still held it's shape and brightness among the stars. "My name is Devi."

Shanda struggled to keep her fear in check, to stop her pathetic trembling. She'd done so well lately in making a change, but it had also been a while since she'd encounted such fierceness in any creature. As she cowered on the beach, the moon casing it's light upon the beach, causing her white pelt to almost glow, she watched as the male, whom she discovered as her eyes adjusted to the dark was mainly dark gray in color, seemed to calm down. His snarling lips covered those sharp white teeth, his bristling fur calmed, and she watched thankfully as he sat on the beach.
"Sorry..if I frightened you..Shanda I..didn't mean it.""My name is Devi"
Shanda's frazzled nerves quieted down, and she too took a sitting position, making sure she stayed facing him so she could keep a watchful eye out for any sudden change. He seemed sincere in his apology. She remembered how jumpy she was when she first came to this beach.
"I'm sorry also for coming upon you like that. I couldn't sleep and had decided to take a walk down the beach. It is not often that I meet others here...It is nice to meet you," she replied, hoping that the last part sounded sincere. She hoped it would turn out nice, as so far, she was not too sure about her new aquaintance.
She peered into the darkness. She wished that she could see him better. It was a bit unerving that she could only really dectect his form.
"What brings you to the beach this beautiful night?" she piped in, trying to lighten the atmosperere, testing the grounds to see just how much she needed to be fearful or not of Devi.

[[You could come in with Tarot now if you wanted too, Paradigh.]]
His head was still up in the clouds, peering at the great, wide moon, shining down on the both of them. It gave way to both of their pelts, but gave them separate reactions. Her stunning, white pelt glowed and shimmered, while his dark, dirty pelt threw him more into the shadows. They were opposites in many ways, two being their gender and their coat color. It looked almost as if they might be yin and yang.
"I'm sorry also for coming upon you like that. I couldn't sleep and had decided to take a walk down the beach. It is not often that I meet others here...It is nice to meet you,"
He looked back down at her, and saw she had assumed a seating position herself. He was now fully calmed down, and so, he stepped out of the darkness. His pelt shattered the shadows, for once they had been blended together, entwined, unseen to the normal eye. Devi had closed his right eye, the one that was red, the color of all blood and sorrow. The other, his left, and the blue eye, was fully open. It took on a vision of peace and tranquility. He did this because he believed that his red eyes held all his anger, and the other held all his peace.
Sometimes, that was true.
"What brings you to the beach this beautiful night?"
Now he looked straight into her eyes with his one, sorrow and anger filling his crystalline orb. He had a perfectly good reason, and he had not seen that reason for some time, no matter how much he longer or it to be so. "I came here looking for my brother....Tarot.", he paused, "You haven't happened to see him around have you?"

Shanda kept her gaze fixted on the mysterious wolf named Devi. There was something about him, his aura, that held a hint of familiarity. She didn't understand it, though lately, with all the change in her life, she found that she didn't understand alot of the strange feelings and sensations she'd encountered. A hint of movement from the dark one caught her attention, a wave of anticipation, neither excitment nor fear, welled up in her as she watched him stand and begin to move out of the shadows and into the moonlight.
Shanda's eyes widened in strange recognition as Devi came fully into view. He was a large wolf, slightly taller than she, but much more bulk. The moon cast a soft bluish hue onto his mainly dark gray pelt, his one blue eye gave his features a gental peace, much different than her first impression upon their initial meeting. It struck her odd that he held one eye closed...why was his other eye closed. But what struck her most was the pattern of his markings....she knew that she had seen that pattern somewhere.
She smiled warmly as he came into the light, and after her last question, she found herself being stared squarly in the eyes, a different, hidden mood flashed in Devi's one open eye, as if a memory of mixed emotions played across his mind. She flinched slightly, and turned her gaze to the trees in the distance just past him.
"I came here looking for my brother....Tarot" "You haven't happened to see him around have you?"
Shanda's head swung about so quickly, it was a wonder she didn't give herself whiplash, her eyes meeting his once again, staring in shock at his words. Tarot's brother? No wonder he seemed so familiar!
"You...your Tarot's brother?" she finally exclaimed, standing to her feet once again, and without thinking, she made a quick circle around him, taking a closer look. She stopped back in her original spot, her head cocked slightly to the side, a bewildered, shocked expression on her face. "His brother?" she repeated again.

Devi sighed suddenly, just before letting his one eyed gaze travel to the sea. The waves crashed and struck, foaming still, the tides of the night barreling high into the air. Pulling his ears back and flicking his tail to the side, he was just about to turn his eyes back upon Shanda, only to hear her speak first. "You...your Tarot's brother?"
He snapped his head around to stare straight at her with his eye, a new emotion bubbling inside of him. If she said that....than it well meant that she could have met Tarot, and that means...that there was still a hope for the brothers to reunite! His eye shined with happiness now, and he felt as though he might jump out of his skin for so great was his joy.
He gave no objection as she went around him, taking a good look at him and his markings. He watched her closely as she sat back down, giving him a bewildered look that he really had yet to see in any wolf. "His brother?" she repeated again.
"Yes! You've seen him then?"
Before she could answer, he bounded off with a joyful flick of his tail. He didn't go far, only to a nearby rock, to look out for a better view. Oh, if only his brother was in sight. He was now near going crazy with the information. If he found his brother again, oh what stories he would have to tell his dear brother. But..before that..he, he'd give him a good licking' and a great big hug.
No matter how much he still might be jealous of him.

When at first she saw the look in his one open eye before asking if she'd seen Tarot, she had wondered what his intentions were in finding him. She'd gotten a little carried away in realizing that he could be Tarot's brother, but in the seconds after she sat back down, she remembered the look, and began to worry that her excitable outburst may have just given away her friend's location....
but then Devi's reaction after her outburst took her completely by surprise. He bounded off like an excited pup. She could help but smile and even stifle a quiet giggle as he stopped by a nearby stone, looking about as if to catch sight of his apparently long lost brother. This completely different side of her new aquaintance put her completely at ease, and much like Tarot, she felt no fear and felt like she could trust him. She sat there a few minutes longer, smiling while giving him a playfully stern look. She stood and trotted to where he stood.
"Yes, I've seen him, but he is not here, not on this end of the beach. He is somewhere south, though I wouldn't be able to find him in the dark,"she said as she trotted past him, heading in the general direction of the beach King's kingdom. She paused and glanced over her shoulder, a coy smile, along with a questioning look on her face.
"We can head that way, if you like, but we'll have to wait until daylight to find him."
His excitment was rubbing off on her. After a rocky meeting, she felt that she was going to enjoy his company. Such an unusual family, and she felt some strange connection with them, and she couldn't wait to see what the mornng brought if she could find Tarot and help Devi in his search....

"Yes, I've seen him, but he is not here, not on this end of the beach. He is somewhere south, though I wouldn't be able to find him in the dark,"
He whirled around, wanting to see her face, to see that she was one that spoke it. Even though he already knew she did, and that the thought was useless to even think, he still did so. He came around, and would have been face to face with her, if she had not gone passed him as he turned. A small look of confusion riddled his face for a moment as he looked around, but then pointed his head to the ground. He saw her tracks and turned to see her heading off, presumably in the direction of Tarot.
"We can head that way, if you like, but we'll have to wait until daylight to find him." Devi just scowled at her, looking as though he was a young puppy anting something he could not have. "Aww....we have to wait?? We can find him in the dark...", he even added on the extra effect, jutting out his bottom lip, and taking on what could be called 'the puppy dog eyes'...but with just one eye. As he did it, the patterns on his face stood out and wrinkled, edging in his excitement, for he could not hold his face long, and a smile crossed his jaws. Grinning from ear to ear.

Shanda watched Devi as he temporarialy lost sight of her. He'd been so caught up in his excitment that he must have not seen her walk right past him. She let out a laugh in spite of herself at the expression that appeared on his face, his one eye gleaming at her. She still thought it odd that the other was closed, and then began to wonder if it was kept closed because for some reason it didn't work? She couldn't remember upon their initial meeting if she saw both eyes or not....
But the pouting, puppish act he now put on touched her in a way that just made her day (night) Noone had ever pleaded with her like Devi was doing, giving her the puppy eyes and pouty look. She smiled and let out a light laugh. But then took on a more serious look.
"We can head in the general direction, but when I met Tarot, it was snowing heavily, and the only way I was able to find my way was to follow him. I don't know if i could find his den, and definately not in the dark. I can take you to the place I met him, and once daylight comes, maybe we can work together to find him." She smiled, hoping he would not be dissappointed.

[[Thanks! I too, have been enjoying this thread..its fun..he.]]
Wait for it..wait for it..there! Ha, ha, she smiled and laughed! It was want Devi had been waiting for as soon as he did that act of his. He could always make anyone laugh, and know he accomplished it again. Who knows why he liked to make others laugh and smile, but maybe, just maybe, it healed him from the jealousy he felt as a puppy, and the loneliness and sorrow he endured.
He smiled, even as she became serious on him, and his plume tail paddled back and forth behind him. "We can head in the general direction, but when I met Tarot, it was snowing heavily, and the only way I was able to find my way was to follow him. I don't know if i could find his den, and definitely not in the dark. I can take you to the place I met him, and once daylight comes, maybe we can work together to find him." He might have objected to it, and put on his face again, but he didn't. As long as he could find his brother, he felt forever the joy and excitement.
He then bounded up to her, and past. He literally bounced into the air, happy as could be, and excited to the point where just about nothing would be able to calm him down. His tongue hanged out of his mouth, and flopped up and down as he did. He was acting so much like a puppy, what would his mother think of him now?! Ha, ha! He could almost imagine her face if she had her eyes upon the event.
*Boing.....Broing!....bounce.....thump....BOUNCEY!*

Shanda couldn't help but laugh at this strange sight. Devi, a rather large and potentially intimidating wolf was bounding about as if a puppy. She felt a bit awkward as he came bouncing past her, his excitment oozing out of every pore, every motion of his body. She felt the contaigeousness of it, but that's what stumped her. She felt the desire to play also, but she didn't know how to play. Being the one and only omega pup of her previous pack, she'd had noone to play with. She'd almost been forced to grow up too quickly, and had had no real childhood.
She raised an eyebrow, shaking her head while grinning all the while.
"Well, let's head that way, then," she announced, and turned in place, her dark gray mane whipping about in the breeze. It was a beautiful clear night, perfect for a walk down to the south end of the beach. She no longer felt any apprehension about going down there. And the beach had been so quiet lately. She felt completely at ease. And she couldn't figure out that silly feeling she had-that lost part of her that wanted to bounce about with her new aquaintance...but then she shook her head. She was too senisble for that....
She glanced back before going to far to make sure Devi had noticed that she was leaving. He was so happy....
