Kait breathed heavily as she struggled onto the shore. Her fur coat was absolutely soaked and every muscle in her body ached. When she finally felt the heat of dry sand beneath her paws, she collapsed with half of her body still in the water, the waves sliding up her sides and shifting the sand under her belly. Would she die here? No, of course not. But she wouldn't be able to move anywhere. It hurt to even breath. Those stupid sailors.
All of Kait's life had been spent hopping onto various ships and traveling to different parts of the world. She'd been just about everywhere, but it didn't matter how wonderful the land was, she never stayed. After a few days of exploring, she'd climb on another ship and sail away again. Her true home was on the sea. The humans never minded much. The setter would help out on board (as much as a dog could) so that the sailors would see her as a benefit and not a burden, thus allowing her to stay. However, for some reason or another, it didn't quite work out that way this time. As soon as the men on the ship saw the stow away (which hadn't been until a while after they had set sail) they threw her overboard without a moments hesitation. She was forced to swim the distance to shore in order to survive, and she'd just barely made it.
The setter stared out across the beach, her one lock of black fur sticking to her wet snout. She watched as the beach started to get blurry, and then grow dark, and then she passed out.

A black wolf with a white crest on his chest walked on the shore. When he saw a setter. He dashed over to her. "Are you ok?!" The old wolf barked. He dragged Kait farther up to the shore. He put his paws on her side and pushed out the water that was in Kait's lungs.

Kait coughed and hacked as the water was thrust out of her lungs.
"Mmm....." her head rolled to the side and her eyes struggled to make sence of anything. She wasn't in the water anymore, that was for sure. A blurry, black figure stood abover her. It slowly took form and...a wolf?!? Kait lept up and collapsed immediately. She still hadn't gotten her strength back.
"Who...who are you?" she asked. Kait looked up into the wolfs eyes. His gaze didn't seem threatening. What a relief. Her tense muscles relaxed and she closed her eyes again. "You don't have any food, do you?" she mumbled.

"Im Iceberg. And yes I have food." Iceberg picked up Kait and put here on his back. He walked to his den that was near the shore. He put down Kait. He pick up a rabbit he cauth and killed early in front of her to eat.

Kait wearily sniffed the rabbit and began to nibble at it. "Thanks," she said after swallowing her first bite. "I'm Kait, by the way." Kait continued to naw lightly on the rabbit, still feeling very weak. "I'm sorry I'm not the greatest company, at the moment." The setter managed a smile. "Humans can be idiots, ya know?"
She would have to show those stupid sailors a lesson...if she ever saw them again. That was unlikely. Oh well. Kait didn't even have the energy to be angery at them for long. Her mind couldn't seem to focus.
Kait looked back up at the wolf above her. "What'd you say your name was? Ice...something? Right?" She groaned. "I don't know. I don't even know what's going on. Is this shore anywhere near Rakine?"
She wasn't awake for the answer. With a piece of rabbit still hanging out of her mouth, she fell into a deep sleep on the den floor.

"I hate humans they don't understand wolfdogs like me." Iceberg lowered his ears. He felt pain because of humans. He sighed and laid down his ears twitch. He began to sing a song that he only knew. "Deep in the night the winds blow cold and in a heartbeat the fear takes hold
Deep in the storm there's a place that's soft and still where the road waits to be taken if you only will
The voices inside you can lead your soul astray Believe in what you dream Don't turn away don't you turn away...."

Kait slept there in the den for days. Three suns had set before she opened her eyes again. When she finally did, she sat there for a long while unable to remember anything, but as her mind began to kick back into gear her memories returned. The sailors. The swimming. The shore. And the wolf who had been so kind to her. Thinking of him, she looked down at her feet where she remembered the rabbit to be and found it gone. All for the best, she supposed. She had no idea how long she'd been asleep. If the rodent had still been there it would probably be spoiled and reaking right now. Kait looked up again and glanced around. Not seeing the wolf anywhere, she decided to go for a walk.
The setter stretched her stiff limbs and stepped outside into the light of a full moon. It was nighttime. That didn't bother her, though. She ran up and down the shore, slowly at first, and then faster, building up her speed until she felt she had regained full usage of her legs. It felt good to run agian. It felt good to be able to do anything for that matter.
When her exercise was done, Kait jogged back up to the den where Iceberg had so kindly taken her in. Again, not seeing him anywhere, she stood near the back to wait. As she did, a memory sprung into her mind. It was vauge, but still very much present. It was a song someone had sung to her while she'd been sleeping. It must have been the wolf who had done it. She couldn't remember any of the words, but the melody, she remembered, had been lovely. Beautiful and haunting. She hummed the bits she could recall to herself, wishing she could pull some of the words out of her mind.

Iceberg was coming back from hunting. His tail swayed in the wind. He looked at the beutiful moon. He padded towards the den. "Hello, slepply head." The old wolf chuckled and but the kill down it was a small baby deer. He placed it in front of Kait. "Go on eat." Iceberg said he whened outside near to the water. He sat down. He lefted his head up and howled at the moon as it shined in the sky.

As Sloan walked along the water's edge, he faintly caught the scent of meat. Fresh meat. His ears swiveled suddenly as the sound of howling reached them. Unsure of what he should actually do, he started to trot towards the sound of the howling. Another scent reached his nostrils. A wolf...male and a female dog of some sort. He slowed his pace. Any kind of wolf made him hesitate. He decided to be friendly, though. As the dark wolf came into view, he stopped and howled back. He hoped he seemed not as a threat, but as a friend.

"My name is Sloane. And you would be?" He cocked his head to one side and looked Iceberg over. He hoped he didn't seem to be a threat to anyone. He just wanted to be friends.
