I'm looking to branch out a bit with my artwork.. I've been up and running for more than a year and the principal produce of my labour is digitally coloured pictures of dogs. I've been looking at the sculptures people have done and wondered whether it's something I'd like to try myself. Has anyone here got any experience with sculpture? Or is sculpting animals such a nightmare that I needn't bother? And here's a WIP pic of my fursona Roo that I wanted to share with someone.. I don't know whether it merits finishing or not. That right front leg is definitely gonna be rethunk, anyway.

SCULPEY IS SO MUCH FUN!!!! I'm using some Sculpey III for a project in art (I'll probably post it on dA when I get it back) and it's hard but I love it I haven't tried Super Sculpey yet, but I want to this summer ;D Neat WIP, btw! Can't wait to see it finished

Sculpy is kinda hard to work with, but worth it...maybe I could get a picture of my 'Gargoyle' named Meinya and show him to you...he's awfully cute...
My suggestion is to use wires for a skeleton, then work with the clay bit by bit, draping it over the frame before reworking a lot of stuff that would need reworking.
As for the pic...I LOVE IT!! ^^ I don't see anything wrong with the leg...maybe I'm just blind. But the face could use a bit of work...maybe it's just cus it's not finished...Yeah, that's it, cus I like the expression and stuff. ^^ It's awesomeness!

Thanks guys! I'm gonna rework her eye and muzzle a bit though, it doesn't look how it did when I sketched it.
I did a bit of research about sculpture last night and saw about doing the wire skeleton. It seems that that would be the only way to make the legs stand up properly, although I don't know how strong Super Sculpey is when unbaked.
So.. I think I am gonna go for it with the sculpting, although maybe I should wait a little while before buying the clay, I've now just bought a Wacom Bamboo as I got sick of the pen pressure not working on my current tablet. Waste of money? Probably..
