Winter's chill still hung ominous and frigid over the small village. Icicles clung to roofs and chimneys, determined to maintain their perch. The morning sunrise had been shadowed by the dull grey clouds, heavy with snow and ready to drop their bounty once again on the sleepy little village. A good layer of snow had already settled on the ground during the night, causing the young German shepherd to take shelter under a vendor's cart, left to stand unguarded.
The only spot it seemed that snow hadn't touched, was under the little cart, where Kai slept peacefully. Her paws remained tucked up underneath her warm stomach, and her long, bushy tail curled around her, covering her black nose. Her thick winter coat protected her from most of the chill, not to mention the heat radiating off of her companion, a large rottweiler that she had leaned herself up against. The morning was beginning to fade into afternoon, however it was hard to tell the exact time of day due to the ever-present hover of the dull grey clouds.

Tank nuzzled his maw against the little german shephard cuddled against him. He kept an eye open while she slept. The rottweiler was curled up to try to keep warm with what little coat he had. Rottweiler's aren't meant to be in snow, he thought to himself. But he remained awake. He still had the small rabbit that he had caught before they laid down. He began to chew on it to keep from being bored. Nothing really happened here due to the harsh winter. So he had nothing to worry about but other dogs. That worried him enough to stay awake though.
Tank knew that Kai could fend for herself but he was almost 2 times bigger than her and could scare off anyone without a fight. Tank was still a puppy but he was very big for his age. The rabbit had become frost bitten so every time he bit into it, he licked the meat to defrost it before he ate it. He left enough meat so that Kai could eat when she woke up. He burried the rabbit in the snow and cuddled back with his mate and tried to get some shut eye.

Kai's ears flicked as little bits of snow was swept up in the breeze and landed on them. Her pink tongue slid out from her maw to lick some of the crystals off of her nose. Opening one amber eye, Kai looked around at the village, a few people had begun to venture into the streets to start their daily shopping in the marketplace. Kai's ears picked up the sounds of doors closing, children laughing as they played in the snow, and vendors opening their shops for business. Speaking of vendors, the owner of the wagon that Kai and Tank had taken shelter under had begun to load his wares onto the vehicle. As the old merchant carried his goods to the wagon, Kai's eyes opened up sleepily, lifting her head from the warmth of her tail and yawning a big, toothy yawn. She was in nose hurry to move, until she saw the man bringing out his draft horse to pull his cart. The lumbering beast was lead over to the cart and as the man hitched up the animal, Kai nosed the ribs of her mate to rouse him from sleep. The man was getting ready to move his cart and if the two dogs didn't get out of the way soon, they'd be caught under the wagon wheels.
