Daylight was comfortably changing to a evenings hue as Murk started stirring, Summer had come, the tide had gotten high, and the heat so hot and humid it was almost unbearable. You didn't even need to be sane to come to that conclusion. With a wide toothy yawn the shuck stood on shaky stretching legs...
~They need to make the ground closer~
With a huff and a look around the old beast had to agree. In this sort of heat it was too hard to want to do much of anything. But the evenings cool did much to motivate him, that, and the insatiable growl in his gut did well by that too.
The beast took to foot rummaging around the docks, the bad side was, most of the fish that had been left out during the day was bad enough even the rats wouldn't feast on it. He turned his nose up at the offensive smell and sneezed. "No good." he grumbled, poking around at least to find some fisherman's leftover lunch remains and half a crab that wasn't completely rotten.
Murk smacked his jaws, and shook his head, it wasn't like such a meager meal had filled him, he was always hungry...sick to his stomach he plodded along, a lean and wild look in his eyes as he combed his territory.

The day had been lazy, too weak and tired to do anything, many found themselves napping it away until the sun had set. Shade had been anything but plentiful, but Calibur had managed to wriggle his way in the thin allies behind some buildings. It was nothing much, but it was cool. Although there was a moudly scent to this place he just paid no heed and covered his nostrils with his paws.
The cobbles welcomed his paws and did not burn the pads as the ground nearer to the water had. Having given a contented smile he rested behind a large bundle of unused rope and had drifted into a casual sleep. He dreamed about a cooler day and was quite pleased with himself when he stirred awake to this cold evening.
So stretching forth his legs he got up, licking his lips, shook his head and proceeded slowly out of the alley way. Only smaller wolves such as himself could have fitted in such a tight space, that was why he safe enough to sleep. If things went well in the port he imagined himself staying here for a while. It was then that he saw someone, someone familiar. Although was it just his lazy eyes having not properly woken playign tricks on him?
Nah, it couldn't be... Murk no? Calibur waved his tail a little and advanced cauciously towards the old wolf. He sniffed the air somewhat around him then recoiled to the smell of rotting fish. " Ugh what a distasteful stench, " cried the wolf as he moved away giving a horrified look to the meat. " Hey Murk, you're not going to eat that are you? "

The large shuck didn't recognize Calibur at first and as to answer his question, he snapped down the food in second, woofing it down before he could taste it. "Aye, that ah did." Murk smirked, he was proud of his intestinal fortitude, a spot of spoilt meat didn't worry him any, he'd eaten worse before, and probably would again. "Food's rare now...good food 'at is...gets rotten t' soon...cause o' that heat" He licked his chops and then looked down at the figure who he was talking too.
He remembered now, that little lone wolf in the cemetery. "Ah good, the ghosts n'goblins dinnae getcha." The large dog looked over the littler beast and smiled. "Wot brings ye 'ere er um..." Well Murk recognized the young male, but the name eluded him, his ears dipped back, he was a little confused that he couldn't remember.

Cal recoiled a little as he rested on his hind legs. His face wrinkled in disgust and he stuck his tongue out and thought of how foul that must taste in the mouth. However it did not seem to phase ol' Murk. Shivering a little to the thought of that rotten meat in his gut Cal perked his ears as Murk spoke.
" Well I suppose. I'd normally go prowling in some left open doors for a scrap of meat... "
He didn't seem to realise how dangerous that was. Infact if he did know the young wolf wouldn't have done it. All of the times he's done it there has been no humans in the vacinity, fortunately for him. But what if there had been? Then they'd be hunting him down and if caught... well, he would surely be dead on the spot.
" Nope, didn't get me. Left a week or two after you did, slowly wandered my way to Rakine. Convenient I meet you eh? "
Cocking his head and raising a brow, he eyed the confusion on Murk's face. Chuckling a little he waited to see if he could guess his name. However after moments he realised he wasn't seeming to get it. The encounter before was rather brief... so he wasn't too bothered about the loss of recollection.
" Calibur. "

The old cur shook his head at the young wolf "A wild beast...lioke ye? An'what'll ye do ifn' the humans catch ye? Try to appeal t' there better nature?"
~Cause they don't have any~
"Nay, they dun have any indeed." He paced a little and licked his chops shaking his head at Calibur's foolishness. "They'll rioght t'blow ye head off within one of their loud sticks...seen it happen once...bloody terrible" The Dane mix seemed haunted once, where had he seen it? He knew that he had...
"Aye its good luck y'did find me...or you'd be thrown off t'dock in a burlap sack in days time." Murk wasn't a horrible sort, unstable, a bit wicked but not out right a bad bloke...least he thought so. "Calibur...y'can't play in a human village lioke y'can in the woods...it ain't t'same..."

Appeal to their better nature? Well from his observations humans seemed to be pretty calm creatures, going about minding their own. If that was what they were normally like, then what was their better side? Lots of treats perhaps if one was to become attatched to him? That seemed ideal, having food supplied to you... means you wouldn't need to steal so much...
Oh but how idealistic was that? Cal was in the dark about what man was actually like. The brutality and extent of their evil was beyond his knowledge by far. They were greedy, selfish creatures, high in the chain of food, armed with deadly items that made teeth and claw dismissable. Cal shifted uneasily around as he listened to Murk. The humans blow of the heads of animals?
Trying to imagine this but failing, he perked his ears and listened to what the old sea dog had to share. It was indeed fortunate that he'd bumped into Murk sooner rather than later. Perhaps after this meeting he'd go away more cautious and careful and more sensible. Though he was still quite confused. All of this was a bit too much to take in and it was confusing him, seeing as he wasn't one of the brightest of young ones either.
" How's it no the same? You need to steal in the woods to survive. You must steal the life of the living there. Though here you are stealing that without any life. Isn't your actions in the forest not more criminal than the ones committed here? "
" So, why would the humans punish us for stealing something that is not living of breathing? Execution for that and not for murdering an innocent animal in the woods... Seems rather farfetch'D to me... "
Wrinkling his brow he tried to make sense of things, tried to put them together but couldn't and sighed a little, tipping his nose to look to his paws. How would Murk make sense of his words if even he couldn't?
