Grunt's eyes twitched slightly as he narrowed them at the sound of the others leaving him behind and thinking him dead. That memory was etched into his mind as the rain was coming down quite hard and his comrades were forced to retreat. He was unable to catch wind of the command and kept forward, and when he looked back for the others they were all gone. Their scent was masked by the heavy rain and his yells for help went unheard. Grunt was somewhat taken aback by this manuver and was somewhat confused. His privates never left him behind for fear of what his master would do to them.
He came back to his senses when the Lt. asked him what he was doing there. He shook his head slightly, his large ears slightly flopping against the thick skull of his. "i have been surviving ever since the abanondment. I have learned the routes and road along this land and am in search of a port of some sort to see if i can make it back to New York." He stood firmly to annouce that no matter what the circumstances he was trained well and will survive.

Sage cocked his head." Abandonment?" he asked himself and pulled his head pull along with his auds, his brows narrowed." You were abandoned?" he asked and swished his tail. " you mean they abandoned you, Major? They abandoned the famous Major Grunt?" he asked again. He couldn't grasp the reason, the concept. He couldn't understand, how a MAJOR would end up like a FIRST LIEUTENANT. Alone and a stray. Sage shok his head." We're more like each other more than I thought, Major." he said as his maw wore a grin.
The sky rumbled with anger, and cryed it's tears of hate. It started to rain outside the small shed that the two military dogs stayed. The roof started to leak from the lack of repair over the years it had been there. Sage looked up, as the roof had a spot where it leaked, right where he was sitting. He got up and moved more to the right of the Major. " Back to New york for you, huh?" he asked as his auds went forward again.

Grunt smiled proudly and puffed his chest out more boasting about himself and how his title spread so soon around and through the military branches. This always gave his ego more power and room to grow."Yes, the yellowbelly maggots left me behind for fear of their own lives, not knowing while they were doing so they were comitting insubordination; but that really couldnt be helped, they were new recruits." He sighed quietly to himself as he looked out the window and narrowed his eyes. He missed his master and all of the memories that came with him.
The thunder and lighting that came with the onset of a storm didnt mother him much. He had come from the states and origionally from the midwest where Tornadoes were a norm. This was nothing but a mere rain cloud to what he experienced.
His ears perked and twitched at the mentioning of the two canines being similar or a like in a few aspects. He turned his attention to the other and wondered what he ment by it. "If i may, how were you abanonded that makes us so similar?" He sad down next to the other practically back where he first darted from under the rubbage in the small shack.

Sage listened to the major's words. " Well, My owner, the Brigadeir General of the US Airforce had a unfortinate accedent, and then once he was gone, the others left me to die out on the streets." he said and shook his head. " Killed in the frontlines of battle." he added, telling Grunt of the accident that left him on his own. Truth was, they were alike, but since Sage was in a different branch, Sage's abandonment was very devestating to both the cadets which he trained, and the family of the general that he left behind.
His tail flipped to the other side of his bod and his head shook the dripping water from his fur." Damned cadets cowered in fear and as they left my owner and my injuried bod in the battlefeilds." he added with a snare.

Grunt peered back out the small window and recalled the moment in wich he was abandoned and felt a small tie in wich Lt. Sage spoke of. His ears lowered some as he thought of his owner and his post at the home protecting his owner and his two small children and exceptionally beautiful wife. He missed those days of having to play with his owner's young children because that was his order. He missed attacking the random strays of cats and dogs that wandered into his territory and opposed as a threat to his family.
"My story is more of a sort of mutiny rather than an acident durring combat. I wish my story had been more like yours, it has more dignity than mine does. He looked down and bared his teeth in anger. The thought that his cadets simply up and left him stranded there made him want to commit hanis crimes against them that not even any kind of secret services could keep hidden.

Sage chuckled at the Major's comment." Yeah, but they left me to die as well as my owner. They were spinless scum. Honetsly, I have no clue how I survived with wounds like that, and me being on my own." he said and added another chuckle. Talking about his past didn't really sadden him, but filled him with a slight rage to think about his cadets that he himself trained. He chuckled instead of growling feircely at the thoughts. At one point in time he actually wasn't bothered by his past, at one point, he knew that everything happened for a reason, maybe living on his own was the real test, to see if he could survive off the scraps of the humans, or to go ahead and hunt for himself like the wolf inside of him had always known.

Grunt smiled some to the other and his story. "You are quite the courageous fellow." He commended Lt. Sage and nodded swiftly at him. He looked back at the small hole under a pile of stuff from whence he came. "Its time for this general to hit the hay" He said almost playfully as he yawned, showing his many sharp teeth that he made sure to keep clean and sharpened. With that he shook his fur one more time then scapmered off to the small corner and ploped down on the floor. His short forlegs were stretched out infront of him as he rested his head upon them. His ears were still perked hight and were still aware of the many surrounding noises.

"You are quite the courageous fellow."
Those words rang in his head, his chest bulked out and his auds pulled back, a smile on his maw. He was honored that this Major would say that. But then his auds pricked one more time as he listened to him speak again.
"Its time for this general to hit the hay"
These words also allpied to him, he was starting to get tired himself. " I think this applys to this First Lieutenant, also." he said, also trying to find a place to sleep. He looked around and looked at where Grunt had went to. He padded over to a chair that hopped onto a counter where it was strong enough to hold him for the night. It was in a corner and on the same side of the room as Grunt, but of course, Sage kept his distance. He layed his head on his limbs and let out a small yawn before he closed his optics and fell into a light slumber.

A small smirk came across the Australian shepherd/Corgi mix's maw as he watched Lt. Sage's response to his promoting words. He found amusement in the way this much larger, but also much wiser than most canine understood him. He let his eyes slowly drift shut only to open one eye as he watched the much larger canine manuver his way around to the top of a near by counter. 'I could do that same thing...it would just take me a tad longer' He thought to himself as he stretched his forlegs and felt the end of where they were at full capacity to stretch too. He felt somehow incompitent in the hight department and found that his height was also a big disadvantage to him in many cases. But he always though ot the Advantedages and how they, by far, outweighed the disadvanteges. He slowly let his eyes drift shut once again as his large and somewhat floppy ears swiveled continuously administering every sound that reverberated into them.

" Major? Will I see you in the morning, sir?" he asked one more time to this one. Honestly, he was beginning to like this "Major Grunt" he and Sage had many things in common, unlike most of the other dogs and wolves he had met. His green optics focused on the other male that layed in the small corner of the same wall. Hope held in his optics and his figure held low. He awaited the reply of his follow "Military Dog".

The small but sturdily built little corgi mix gave a somewhat grunty chuckle to the the much larger male within the vacinity. A crooked smile came across his muzzle as he opened a single eye and looked directly at Lt. Sage as soon as he opened his eye. " that all depends on if you get up before me or not, if you do; then yes. If you dont, i havent got the foggies clue" He ended his statement with a light laugh and rested his head back upon his arms and shut his eyes once again.
