It was dark. But then again, it was always dark at night. Night, when the stars would shine like miniature pinpricks on black satin, and the moon would smile its benevolence onto the beings below. Night was a time for rest, a time to reflect upon things done during the day.
But night was also a time for melancholy.
And so it was for the rogue wolf, sitting gloomily on his haunches in the old cemetary, staring almost unseeingly into the night sky. His fur was a matted, and a dull line of red trickled down his left shoulder. The wound was since closing, but it still reopened when he strained it too much. Mortil growled irritably. He did not like Sallin wolves, and he like them less when they attacked. For sure, he was more than a match for one, make no mistake. But they were still a pain (If you will forgive the pathetic pun.) But since several nasty encounters in Dante's pass, Mortil found himself here in the cemetary yet again, without a purpose, without aim. The wolf slowly looked up at the moon, watching it slowly become obscured by dark clouds. A fine mist of rain began to fall, and Mortil turned his one good eye downwards again. A fine day to be out in the rain, he thought to himself, shaking slightly as water began to collect on his fur coat. He stopped eventually, as it seemed to be getting him nowhere. He looked back at all the graves. Whatever could have made him come to this depressing, human place?
"There again...back again, never to return. Man's life cut short, bodies left to burn."
Mortil's tongue lolled out in a laugh at his own uttered words. How very true. But if staying in this blasted place made him compose horribly prose in the tongue of wolves, then maybe he shouldn't continue staying in said cemetary.

The graveard was no place for the weak, but nonetheless, here stood a female. She was thin, and her body seemed to frail, yet she seemed strong despite her outward condition. Sniffing around, Revolution tracked her brother. She found that he was off again, most likely either nursing wounds, hunting, or fighting, but either way, he was gone for the time being. Moving forward slowly, she blinked, but the continous darkness did not fade. Revolution was blind and had been since her birth.
Turning her head, she caught the scent of another, his smell making her nervous, she could smell blood on him, but was still moving closer to him.
"There again...back again, never to return. Man's life cut short, bodies left to burn."
The female cocked her head slightly at the abnormal phrase. It made him seemed so dismal and quite the contrary to her oewn personality, so she was benign on a normal day. Walking a few paces closer, she stopped, looking where his scent was coming from. "Are you all right sir?" He voice was angelic, mild, and very soft.

Mortil's ears barely picked up the soft voice in the rain.
"Are you all right sir?"
The scarred wolf slowly turned, growling slightly in his throat as his injury opened more, the dull trickle increasing its flow a little and leaving a dull throb. He sniffed at the thin wolf, then took in her features. To the unconcious layman, the she-wolf would seem to be frail, weak, but Mortil knew better. The way she held herself, the way she stood. Those alone denied frailty. But her eyes. He could tell...the way she almost warily had approached him.
"I am well, more or less, but I thank you for your concern."Mortil continued his quiet scrutiny of her. "Though I must ask you the same. It must be hard, living the path of the sightless eye. Where is your pack?"
He could not help but engage in conversation. Loneliness oft brews its own company, but tonight, Mortil decided that he'd share the company of others, for once.

The she wolf turned to the source of the male's scent, and then moved a bit closer, the rain pelting her like bullets. Revolution shivered, the organe and yellow coat shaking, the fur making a desperate attempt to attain some warmth from the already cold female. She picked up the soft growls the rogue wolf made as he turned to face her, causing her to wag her tail in sympathy.
"I am well, more or less, but I thank you for your concern.
She nodded, and before she could speak, he spoke again. Revolution knew she was being watched, her could feel it. It was clear to the blind female that this was a gentle wolf, and he meant her no harm. After picking up the tibit of information, Revolution was quick to speak to him in turn. "I have a den close by. Can I offer you some shelter from the rain?'
"Though I must ask you the same. It must be hard, living the path of the sightless eye. Where is your pack?"
She sighed softly, her blue eyes scanning as she tried to find him exactly. "Yes, It is hard. Hardly ever do I find company, as I am often left to be. It is the thoughts of others to think of me as a frail, helpless she-wolf, but I am stronger than I look. As for my pack, I have only my brother, and if you don't mind me being frank, he is off again, as he often does. Won't return for another moon or so I guess."
Finally, her ears located him, and she was at his side within a moment or two. "If you would like, I could heal your wounded shoulder" Although blind, she knew he was bleeding from the shoulder; however, she didn't know it was slightly healing.

"I have a den close by. Can I offer you some shelter from the rain?'
Mortil dipped his head slightly. "I thank you. There seems to be plenty of tombstones, but not one seems satisfactory in shelter. I appreciate your hospitality..." It struck him that this wolf was not like many of the others he had met, shunning him and driving him away. He pondered this knowledge, but it was probably due to the fact she had only her brother. He smiled, fangs glistening in the rain, but it was a sad smile. Long had it been since he had warranted company.
Her offer to heal his shoulder made him start, and he suddenly found her at his side. By the moon, she was fast! He almost lashed out in his surprise, but instead shrunk away from her, as if fearing her touch, as if she was made of molten fire and he of wood. His single eye was wide, and his sudden move made his wound more aggravated, and he finally found the strength to speak. "Thank you, but the wound is slowly healing, it shouldn't trouble me..or you." he meant as kindly as possible. But as droplets of water splashed into the open cut, he hissed slightly. He could not explain his paranoia reaction towards casual touch, but he knew that deep down, it was because of his pack, his past, its haunting whispers playing his grief and driving him away from others.
"Thank you, but I should not burden you. You have done much for me already by offering me shelter." How could he ever explain?

"I thank you. There seems to be plenty of tombstones, but not one seems satisfactory in shelter. I appreciate your hospitality..."
She smiled kindly, and then 'looked' up at the sky, letting rain fall on her for a few moments. Her fur was growing wetter, and she was shivering more, but she still smiled.
The next thing she knew, he had moved away from her. Revolution did not question this aloud, but her mind was busy deciphering what she had done to cause this. She was a kind female, and her she thought she had done something to hurt him. Little did she know that it was not her fault, but she looked hurt slightly as he moved away. Her ears perked toward him.
Thank you, but the wound is slowly healing, it shouldn't trouble me..or you."
Revolution had an idea that there was something about his past that had made him shrink away, and so she began to gently talk to him, just talking.
"Thank you, but I should not burden you. You have done much for me already by offering me shelter."
"Your're welcome. Oh, and by the way, I am Revolution." She paused, putting emphasis on welcome. "You know, living alone here isn't so bad. I mean after all, I have my brother. Do you live here, too?" She said as she began to walk a hill, her den at the very top under a gnarled old oak tree.

As Mortil followed her, padding softly after her in the rain, he breathed a sigh of relief. It was rare to find someone who would understand, but at least no awkward questions were fortcoming yet. He listened to her introduce herself.
"I'm Mortilitas. Those who used to know me called me Mortil. You may too, if you wish."
He looked up ahead. Revolution's den was sheltered underneath a gnarled oak tree, and he found himself taking a liking to it. The wolf had always like oak trees, though he couldn't explain why. Many were the times he was scolded by his father for somehow climbing them.
"You know, living alone here isn't so bad. I mean after all, I have my brother. Do you live here, too?"
Mortil shook his head, his next reply was tinged slightly with sadness, mixed with a very quiet voice. "I'm afraid I do not. I have no place to call my own, but sometimes that's the only way I know how to live. Seems like I always find myself drifting all over. I suppose mere chance is the only reason we have met today."

She could hear him following her, and his own intoduction, smilimg politely when she heard him.
"I'm Mortilitas. Those who used to know me called me Mortil. You may too, if you wish."
"Mortil," She stopped, as she sensed the ground ahead of her to be unsteady, muddy. The md could suck own of them in if they weren't careful. "Watch your step, the ground is unsteady" It was a moment later, she veered off in a large circle, her paws becoming entrenched in mud, it threatening to pull her down.
"I'm afraid I do not. I have no place to call my own, but sometimes that's the only way I know how to live. Seems like I always find myself drifting all over. I suppose mere chance is the only reason we have met today."
"If we we hadn't met today, I would never had found someone to keep me company, and you would be stuck out in the rain. Fate can be kind, but sometimes, as in my case, it isn't fair" She was talking about being blind, and how everyone saw her differently than everyone else.
As Revolution took a step to the right, her whole body was pulled up to her elbows in mud. She hadn't seen the weak area, and had stepped right into the center of the weak ground. She pulled and struggled, but she was unable to free herself. Whimpering, the female lunged forward, but did not panic. Her calmness seemed so abnormal in that situation. "Darn it! I can't get free of this mud" Revolution's fur was caked with mud, and she looked rather odd.

"If we we hadn't met today, I would never had found someone to keep me company, and you would be stuck out in the rain. Fate can be kind, but sometimes, as in my case, it isn't fair"
Mortil shrugged. "Such is life. I am half-blind, myself. It is tough going sometimes. Need help?" He trotted forwards, himself having not effort getting through the mud to reach her. He brushed some mud off her fur and then grasped that patch roughly with his jaw, and with a hard tug, he pulled her free.
"At least it is raining." The scarred wolf said roguishly, lolling out his tongue at the sight of Revolution covered in the wet mud. It was queer indeed, to see an animal as dignified as they covered in mud like a common pig. Mortil shrugged inwardly. Mud was mud. And wolves were wolves. What they did were their own choices, what others thought mattered not.
In the slight struggle to get Revolution out of the mud, he had noticed that he had accidentally smeared some blood on her. He ground his fangs together. He hadn't meant to do that. He was getting dizzy now, loss of blood and fatigue was taking it's toll on him.

"Such is life. I am half-blind, myself. It is tough going sometimes. Need help?"
She looked at him, with an 'oh really' expression. She was beginning to think that them meeting was coincidene. Suddenly, he was pulling her out of the mud, roughly tugging her free. She grunted a little, but was otherwise fine.
The female wagged her tail, and then gave him a thank you tail wag, proceeding to shake the mud off her, and the rain washing away most of it. She was still a little muddy, but it wasn't as much now.
"At least it is raining."
"That it is" She nodded her head, and then laughed lightly. "Look at me, I am wet, and covered in mud!" Her laugh became louder, and she smiled at Mortil before padding upward to the top of the hill, and then slipping into her den. The floor was padded with soft grasses, animal furs, and dirt, making it very comfortable. Her brother and her had extended a rabbit's burrow to accompany three or four full grown adult male wolves, just in case they were to have comapny.
Cleaning up the den a little, she the popped back out, calling to Mortil. "Come on before you drown out there"

"Come on before you drown out there"
Mortil barked a short laugh, then proceeded to pad towards the den. Halfway in, his worries and troubles cumulated into a single trip and he stumbled headfirst onto the ground just inside the den. He grunted slightly, opening his single golden eye in slight surprise.
"Well, that was a bit unexpected" he said unconvincingly, trying to rise and only succeeding in rolling over onto his side. That didn't really surprise him much. As he examined his shoulder, it seemed that it had reopened in earnest; dry blood was on the wound where it had opened, and he had a bright red stripe on his left leg. He ground his fangs together in frustration, but the action caused a sharp pain to shock through his frame, drawing a pained and surprised yelp from his vocal chords.
"Ow...well, at least it's not my other eye. Incidentally, picking fights is fun and all, but not if the other one starts it. Sallin wolves are vicious..." The scarred wolf nodded sagely to himself before sighing. There was a definite metallic tang smell in the air now, very faint.

Revolution took sympathy on him, and held out a paw to stop him from moving. "Don't move." His own good eye was open in surprise. She made a decision to help the poor guy out.
"Well, that was a bit unexpected"
She heard him, and then gave him a stern, but playful glare. It was obviuos she was playing when she wagged her tail. "You'll have to do better than that if you want to convince me of that, Mortil' Her eyes seemed to sparkled, despite being blind and all.
When he yelped in pain and surprise, she whimpering in concern for him. "Please, let me help you. Its obvious that you are in pain, and I can make you something to ease the pain" She hadn't been in many fights, but those she had been in wolud have killed her if she hadn't known how to stave off the infection.
"Ow...well, at least it's not my other eye. Incidentally, picking fights is fun and all, but not if the other one starts it. Sallin wolves are vicious..."
"They did this to you? Poor thing." Her voice was very soft, motherly. Revolution knew she needed to get him out of the rain, and so, she grabbed his scruff, pulling him the rest of the way into the den. Despite her smaller body, and almost frail state, she had no trouble moving him. Revolution smiled as the ran stopped pelting them, and the warm air inside the den spread to her wet coat, warming her instantly.
"Mortil, I hate to say it, but if you don't stop bleeding, your going to either pass out or die, depends on which comes first. If you would let me, I would help you. I am a healer after all and its my duty to help any I can, so shush and hold still" She rubbed some of the animal fur below them between her paws, and then placing in with a firm but gentle pressure against his wound.

The rogue wolf dipped his head in resignation, and then exhaled with a hiss of breath as Revolution pressed the fur against the injury. He resisted the urge to thrash his paws all over the place, but heaven knows it was hard.
Her surprise (he thought her tone sounded with surprise) at him being wounded at the fangs of Sallin wolves surprised him somewhat. "There'll be vengeance brewing among the Sallin, that's for sure" he said quietly. "I got away alive, but the wolf I fought is dead."

The female sighed as he relaxed. This was a deep wound, and it was going to need to be treated quickly. Turning around, she stuck her nose in a hole at the side of the den. She proceeding to pull out lavender, the miracle herb. It reduced inflammation, was good at fighting off infections, and relieved pain. Also, it was easy to find. Revolution sat back on her haunches, and with abnormal speed, rubbed the flower between her paws, making it release the oils she was going to need. After using her mouth to pluck the petals and other flower pieces away, the female trotted back toward the male. "This is going to sting a little, but try not to bite me please. After all , I do have muscles relaxer, too."
She carefully rubbed the sticky oil over the wound, working with amazing skill and precision for a blind wolf. Revolution listened to him talk while she worked, hearing the noises he made in pain.
"There'll be vengeance brewing among the Sallin, that's for sure" he said quietly. "I got away alive, but the wolf I fought is dead."
The female tensed, and her body locked up for a moment. "If they come looking for you, I promise to help you out. Healers are just as dangerous as assassins." She was true to her word. Walking back over to her storage hole, she pulled on two piece of cloth she had stolen from humans. Jumping over the male, Revolution soaked one with rain water, and kept the other dry. Hovering back over his wound, she rung out the cloth, flushing his wound. Next, she wrapped in tightly with the other piece. It went over his back, and around his chest, tying under his 'armpit' so to speak. "Sorry that too so long, usually I can wrap a wound in less than twenty seconds"
Revolution back up, and then offering him a paw to get up.

Mortil opened his mouth to reply, but suddenly, something akin to an electric shock seared across his frame. He grunted, stiffening a little. That, sting a little?
"If they come looking for you, I promise to help you out. Healers are just as dangerous as assassins."
As she said it, he swung his head over to look at her sharply with his good eye. What did she mean by that? But certainly he could not put anyone in danger ever again. More than one wolf had died due to his presence. He could never, ever, demand something like that ever again. "I appreciate your concern, I really do, but if they do come after me, up and leave. Works every time. Most of my life right now has been running. Taking that up again won't really be any different." He sighed as she finished the wrap and offered him her paw. He grasped it with his, hauling himself to his feet and sitting on his haunches, tail swishing slowly back and forth.
"Why did you do this for me?" he asked softly. "Any wolf could tell you that I didn't deserve it."
