The darkness of the cemetary seemed to suffocate her, the pup seemingly smaller in this wide world as her left hind leg dragged across the ground. She had been alone for a long time. or what seemed a long time for the little one. Lying down on the ground her curled tail wagged slightly as she nudged lightly at the stone, a memorial she remembered watching her brother place before he had dissapeared as well.
"Mom, can you hear me?" Her voice was small, innocent as she spoke up for the first time. "Ed's out hunting, but he's taking good care. Really mom, he is. He's gonna come back any time now."
Even now hope remained that her brother would be back, that she would be just fine despite the skin and bones that showed through her once glossy fur. She was dirty these days, not wanting to hurt the little creatures that could serve as her meal. Resting her heads on her paws she waited, her tail finally dropping to the dirty ground.
It had been harder, being alone with no one to talk to but Al would never say anything like that. That would sound like she wasn't a happy pup and that was something she didn't want others to think such a thing of her. Despite such a past the innocence remained, pure hearted as ever.
Many thought that there had never been a bad thought within her mind but that just wasn't true. She was just good at hiding it, she became good at it never wanting to let anyone see her pain.
Nosing the stone briefly she stood up, her leg dragging across the ground, the light paw and leg stained brown from the dirt. She couldn't run, and that left her at a weakness if she were ever threatened. But that would never cross Al's mind, too happy to be alive.

If there was one place Roy did not being, it was in a cemetary at night. During the day it was fine because the shadows weren't alive then. Unlike now when every rustle you heard was either just the wind or something you just weren't prepared to face in this or any life. He snorted to himself, holding his head high as he strolled past the numerous graves. Superstitious nonsense. Yes, that's what it was.
Dark eyes glanced around warily as he felt his fur stand on end. Supersititious nonsense often had some ray of truth, no? Get it together! Berating himself, he shook, as if to shake away the eerie feeling of the cemetary. Taking comfort from the light clinking of watch against the the metal of his collar, he proceeded forward, in seemingly better spirit than when he had entered.
His purpose here was simple, wanting nothing more than a place to sleep the night away. Though, why he had chosen a cemetary over some alley? To him, it seemed logical. Chances of actually running into someone in a dark cemetary were slim while chances of running into something unpleasant in a dark alley were high. Although quite capable of standing his ground, Roy just really wanted a good night's rest.
Ears twitched as he listened, wondering if it was just the regular noises that would plague such a place after dark or if he had actual heard something moving.

"Ed?" Al heard something some one come closer. It was given that she called out for her brother, her mind already jumping to her brother, thinking it may be his return. "Is that you big brother?"
Slightly flopped ears moved foward, listening for any sound. Her gray puppy eyes cast around, unsure of where the sound was coming from.
"Ed?" Her small voice called out again, waiting for an answer. Her mind didn't approach the foolishness t was to call for her missing older brother when common sense would tell anyone he had forgotten about her.
Lifting her head up she sniffed at the air, trying to pick up a scent. She knew it wasn't her brother but there was something familiar about it. Moving closer towards the smell her leg raked across the ground, making the peculair sound of fur and bones against gravel.
To a cold hearted predator that would be the sound of weakness, a pup all alone with no one to fend for her. It would be obvious to many that Al just could not survive on her own. How many nights had it been? For it had not been much more than a week given her survival. She was not a strong creature, rather one of those vulnerable ones that spent more time than not a victim of the world.

There. Another rustle, similar to something dragging over soft dirt. It was a whisper of movement but movement nonetheless. Roy's legs spread out as his head lowered, tail high in the air as he listened and waiting, daring whatever creature was there to move closer. His lip curled in a silent snarl, preparing himself. When it came to fight or flighty, Roy always fought.
"Ed?" Ed? Who would be calling out for an Ed? His face became neutral, though he kept his ready stance just incase this was someone trying to throw him off. Maybe this Ed was some reinforcement they were waiting for.
"Is that you big brother?" His body relaxed. The voice was soft, familiar, though he wasn't quite able to place it. It was a whisper, a tickle of a memory that was trying to reach the forefront of his mind.
"Ed?" "Alphonse." The name was on he tongue before he realized it. Yes, that's who it had to be. Alphonse. When was the last time he had seen the pup? Weeks? Months? Roy was moving forward, dark eyes reflecting what little light the night held as he searched for the light colored pup.
"What are you doing here, Alphonse?"

That voice, she recognized it. It knew her name and despite everything Al felt an urge to run as well as she could to the source of the sound. Her tiny body squirmed as her tail wagged furiously. It had been a long time since she had heard another voice and to have it be some one she knew? That was excitement beyond belief. Half tripping she fell in front of Roy, She had been much smaller last time she had met the shepard mix, having gained a bit in height but not much in weight given her current situation.
"Roy!" She called out, as she looked up from her spot on the ground. The movement of her body caked more dirt on her fur, though she didn't care through her excitement. Roy was what she considered a friend and to have some one to talk with again? It was almost too much.
"Ed went off to hunt. He told me to stay here and wait for him," she said, the only reason why she was still in this cemetary waiting. She would wait forever for Ed and she believed that someday he would come back for her. Ed cared too much to let her stay there and waste away.

The pup came bounding up to him. Well, stumbled would be a more apt term, but that didn't matter. "What happened to 'Colonel'?" he asked, used to being addressed as such by the child, though he couldn't stop the twitch of his lips. She was excited, that much was obvious.
His eyes raked over the small form. It wasn't as tiny as it used to be, back when he had first run across the siblings, but it wasn't in the best of shape either. The small smile turned into an instant frown. Even in the near blackness, he could make out the way her skin stretched almost taut over her frame.
"Edward... How long ago was this Alphonse?" His tone was soft, but demanding. He wanted answers. How long had she been here, waiting for her brother to return? Too long, in his mind. The two were inseperable and it wasn't sitting right that the loud-mouthed runt wasn't close by. He doubted the boy was able to catch more than a mouse, which wouldn't have taken this long.

Al stopped and thought for several long moments, her mind trying to sort out just how long it had been sincer her brother had left her side. Was it days? No, it must have been over a week. Pausing for a moment she considered the question.
"I don't know, sir. A week, maybe more." All the days were jumbled together, so mixed in her mind that she couldn't tell the difference from one to another. Tilting her head towards Roy she gazed at him. "But Ed's coming back any day now," she assured him, never taking no for an answer. She was certain that her brother would never abandon her.
"Right?" She asked him, a look of worry crossing her face as to what Roy would say. No doubt he didn't carry the same faith in her brother she did but Al didn't want to believe Ed would abandon her.
"I'm just staying here with mom," she whispered, shaking her head as she glanced back at the stone that served as a grave. Would Roy ever understand? Or was he here for another reason?

More than a week seemed suitable enough to have her in such a state. These pups could hardly fend for themselves, so why had he thought they could? Because the runt had said so? He snorted. The only thing that had really prevented him from doing anything for them was his master, the very one he was oh-so convieniently separated from at this point in time.
"But Ed's coming back any day now. ...Right?"
That dip in her voice made him glance down at her again. Like all children, she just wanted to believe that everything would be alright, despite the horrors she had already been through. His eyes narrowed, following her gaze. Had they been here the entire time? In a cemetary, sleeping next to a small rock serving as a reminder of what they once had? Roy's head cocked to the side as he contemplated the situation.
It didn't look good to him. The runt was missing, supposedly off hunting which shouldn't have taken long considering the lack of prey and the child's pitiful skills. Yes, he'd give the mutt credit for keeping not only himself but his sister alive as long as he had, but where was he now? Even Roy had heard rumors of rebels that supposedly came through the area. But the pup before him was just that, a pup. Unlike him, they couldn't fight against a full grown dog.
"No, you're not." He finally said, advancing towards her. It wasn't safe for one so young and defenselss, even he realized that. He went for the scruff of her neck, intent on carrying her away to a safer spot. One away from the open, where he could guard her and rest a bit himself.

Her eyes widened as she felt the mouth gently close around her scruff and lift her up from the ground. Small legs kicked slightly but she was just too small to do anything. Al's mind paniced, glancing around. No! She couldn't leave! Ed was coming back here for her, and she couldn't leave mom! Despite how she squirmed she knew she was too weak to even pry his jaws open.
All Al could do now was let Roy carry her away from her mother. "But Ed's going to come back there! He won't be able to find me!" She told the other, trying to make a point. "Roy! Ed won't be able to find me!" The idea of not seeing her brother again was just too horrifying for words. Sure, there had been times they had fought and such, but she had to be with her brother! She just had to make Roy understand that, despite the fact that she doubted the other would believe her. It was just too upsetting for words.
Finally Al quieted down, her head drooping as she felt an urge to cry had dogs been able to. Her little heart was breaking as her feelings manifested into small, sad whimpers. There was nothing she could do now and that scared her more than anything ever before. She was going to be carried far away from her mother and where she had last seen her brother, the only remainder of her tiny family.
