Waves moved sluggishly towards the beach, crashing down with a rumble upon the pale sands. Other than that, there was complete silence. The wind was dead. As it seemed the rest of the world was. The sky above was doused in russet, smeared with a few dark clouds. The scene was beautiful, although that fact didn’t faze Faith as she pushed herself forward. Perhaps if she was older, she would have done what the other animals had done, and find a nice warm place to hole up in for the time being. But, she was just a pup and too curious to follow her instincts.
It was around here somewhere. She had told herself that over and over. Home had to be here. Somewhere along to beach was that den that she had been birthed in. Where her family was, waiting for her return. She had told herself that too. That they were still there. That after all those months that she had been gone, they had stayed in that den just to be there when she came home. And she had… well… not exactly, she still had no clue where that stupid den, which always seemed to be too small to fit all of them in, was. But it had to be near… It just had to…
Leaving Scatterstone and heading to the ocean-side city of Rakine seemed like an eternity ago. She couldn’t stand it there, at the Port. It was worse then Papa had said. There were so many humans, mean, angry, violent humans who kicked, yelled at, and threw things at her. And then there were the dogs, most just as loud and rude as the humans. Food had also been difficult to find for the pup, and it showed. She was even scrawnier than before, her pelt dirty and scraggly, with ribs showing through. Running away had taken its toll on the whelp.
But she didn’t regret it. She didn’t regret leaving home. She didn’t regret being free. That was how it should be. She shouldn’t have to listen to her parents about what to do and not to do. She shouldn’t have to listen to them yell and snap at her for not listening or talking back. She wasn’t some dumb little child. She could figure out most things out on her own. And she’d prove it to them right now, for there it was: that small opening for the cave her parents had dubbed as their own.
She wasn’t sure how she’d do it at first, but then it suddenly came to her. The sea. Her parents had told her not to go near it. It was dangerous they had told her. Ha! She’d proved to them that she just some weak helpless baby. At that, she headed towards the waters, thinking that she was making a smart choice.
Meh. Short and choppy.

"Uuhnn."
A groan sounded from the small canine, who lay curled into a tight ball. The pup shifted ever so slowly, rolling over from his side to lay on his stomach. He kept his deep ocean colored eyes tightly shut, still trying to sleep, though failing once again. The mix breed sighed softly, his clearly visible ribcage moving with his breath. Dark circles lay beneath his closed eyes, showing his inability to get a proper sleep. How could he, when all his dream were filled with the pain of his mother and father.
Growling to himself, J.D. lifted ever so slowly to his feet, shivering lightly and cringing at the slight ache in his shoulders. Pausing to lean on the cave wall, the pup lowered his head quietly, yawning softly and breathing in the ocean air that flooded in his old family home. This was where he was born, beside his brother and two sisters, where he would lay at his mother's side, and watch Faith play with Aricin, antagonizing their larger brother by telling him he couldn't catch her. Zaria as he climbed over their father, asking him questions to which he often didn't answer. But this... this was also the place where their family broke up, fell to pieces and blew away in the wind.
First, Aricin had run off, Zaria fallowing after him, intending to bring him back before father got mad... But neither returned, though there was less then too much concern for them, Aricin was strong, he could take care of them. But then, Faith left. Although she never believed so, J.D. could tell, she was the favorite child, their pride and joy. There was no jealousy there, of course not, he loved his sister as well, she was special, everyone in the family could tell that... Thats why it was so hard when she left for her own little adventure.
J.D. shuddered, pulling away from the wall and padding forward, slowly exiting the home he'd been born in, the home he'd stayed in even after their father walked away from their mother... because of that huge fight. He remembered watching Dana break down, at which time he tried so hard to help her... But there was no way. The words she'd spoken... Begging him to stay there, that she would return, and try to fix everything. The last time J.D. saw anyone from his family. The pup sighed, it was only a few more months until he and his siblings would be at a full year since their birth, and he wondered if he'd ever see them again... it had been so long since they'd fallen apart.
As eyes darkened from lack of sleep opened, J.D. blinked slowly, yawning once more. He looked up at the sky, noting the color of the clouds. It seemed ready to storm... perhaps in the next few hours. Gray paws stepped into the sand, carrying J.D. forward, though he didn't have a specific purpose for leaving the den at the moment, he just felt the need to get some fresh air, at least before the rain came. Stopping, the male tilted his head, noticing the light colored, familiar figure not to far from him, and approaching the water.
It hit him then, the same way the waves crashed roughly into the rocks. "....Faith..." He whispered to himself in disbelief, before suddenly taking off toward her. "Faith!"
[Sorry if its crappy. I'm tired and half-blind at the moment... Plus I'm too lazy to read through it again for mistakes...xP]

Faith didn’t know the troubles or the hurt that J.D. knew. She just knew of her own, for she was still a pup and the troubles of others weren’t something she was usually concerned with. The pain of her family was not known. Had it been, she would have tried to done something about it. It might not have been much, but trying was worth something.
She was already in the water when her name was called. At first she thought that she had just been her imagination so she pressed forward. The icy water froze her blood and took her breath away. The temperature of the water, made her hesitate. Faith stood there, half way in the water, being pounded by waves, lacking what she had been named for. She doubted everything she was doing and everything she had done. She wasn’t sure what to do. Her family didn’t seem to care, or even know she was here. Were they even here? Had they just left, not caring about Faith? Her tears were mixed in with the glacial waters that pulled at her frail form, causing her to stagger for a few seconds.
Then she straightened, her head held up high. They were here; she knew it in her heart. They’d see her swimming at know that she was strong. After taking a deep breathe, she moved forward, ignoring the water that seemed to tear at her. Only after she turned around, to see if her parents were watching did she notice someone charging towards her. “J.D.?” There was happiness and anxiety in her voice. J.D. was actually her. For some time, Faith had doubted that she would ever get to see him again. It seemed like so long ago that she had seen her big brother. But he looked different. Changed somehow. Like Mama and Papa had. Almost sickly. Frowning, she turned around too get a good look at him as he came ever closer. Maybe he hadn’t been eating enough… Aricin must have been taking his food again… There were dark rings under his bloodshot eyes, as if he hadn’t been sleeping. Maybe he was sick? How would she know?
