Dawn.
The elusive forest of Arnlan seemed much less ominous at sunrise. Before the clouds that seemed to shelter the forest from it's warmth and light, the damn gave sunlight a small chance to penetrate into the dark heart of Arnlan. This morning was no different, and as soon as the sun's rays had licked the canopies of Arnlan's ebony arboreal guards, it had become covered entirely within the dense iron cloud-cover.
Light.
Like the sun's rays, penetrating through the darkness of Arnlan, a flash of light darted between the maze of black trees. The soft blonde pelt of the wolven fae, Phoenix, shone like a flash of light through the dark abyss. Her toned muscles writhed and pulsated just beneath the skin as her long legs sprung forward and spanked the soft, muddy earth like the piston's of a machine. Her ears laid flat against her skull, the fae's fine features shone almost as brightly as her pelt, her cold, emotionless orbs of ice blue were fixed into a determined stare.
Despite her coloration being so out-of-place here in the forest of black, Phoenix had quickly become accustomed to her new environment, learning quickly how to use the tress to her advantage and how to move as silently as possible along the soft earth. She liked it here, that was evident, and she had hoped to encounter some of her other fellow pack members or perhaps Arnlan's alphas again, as she remembered her meeting with Sofika being quite pleasant.
Finally, reaching her destination, which for the time being had been the river, Phoenix slowed her sprint down to a leisurely trot and ventured up to the water's edge. Her cautious gaze scanned the area around her for any sign of other animals, packmates, or intruders. It was only after this visual search that Phoenix allowed herself to drop her gaze to the water's translucent surface and pause to drink for awhile.

As usual, Ecclesiastes had not been doing anything entirely interesting. His day was composed of lying around, occasionally hunting, eating, drinking, all the other essentials of life, and meeting other pack members. He had not met many of the Arnlan residents only Lucian, the black and green male, Akisame, the azure-pelted female, and the two Alphas. Or at least, those were the ones he remembered. Plus a few bunnies.
And he was doing what was listed last: finding others. Perhaps he didn't enjoy socializing completely, but there was nothing wrong with associating names with appearances. At least he could catch a sight of one. So he did, as he drew nearer to one of the small rivers which ran across the Arnlan lands. He could see a bright smudge of colour, and his eyes flashed momentarily. He wasn't used to such vibrant colours, even though his own pelt was splashed with bright cyan hues. Yes, the first rays of the sun at dawn streaked through the depths, but still...
He drew in beside the other wolf, and lowered his head for a drink, the tips of the tufts of hair on his head dipping into the water. Then he took his muzzle out of the water so it was suspended only a few centimetres from the liquid surface before he spoke.
"Hello."

Her salmon-hued tongue stilled lapping softly at the water's surface, Phoenix was at peace. Drawing her head back up from the glassy liquid she began to feel the presence of another in a close proximity to herself. Nose taking to the air, she sniffed the breeze lightly, picking up the scent of another wolf nearby, this one a male. Olonai being the only other male of Arnlan that Phoenix had met herself, she welcomed the chance to better familiarize herself with her packmates. After all, for the pack to be successful, it's members had to both work independently and cooperatively at given times.
Keeping quite still at the river's edge, her tall ears swiveled at their bases, picking up the soft sounds of the male's footfalls. As Phoenix heard him coming closer, an air of slight cautiousness rose about her, which was quite normal in her standards, having never encountered this lupine before. Her icy oculars stared in the direction which the scent and the sounds had directed her too and simply watched.
As the male emerged, she kept her vigilant gaze locked on him, waiting to see if he was prone to sociability or hostility, or neither. But as the male drew in beside Phoenix and drank from the clear river, she had begun to relax, judging that if the male were hostile, he would've taken action sooner. She watched as the brute brought his head up only a minuscule distance form the glass surface and spoke his greeting. Phoenix responded quickly and calmly, her face vacant of emotion, as it usually was.
"Greetings," she spoke with a slight nod.

[ Hope ya' don't mind if I join. ^^ ]
Morning, more or less a time for the early risers. Any who wished to greet the day as soon as it broached the borders of the otherwise gloomy and somewhat sinister atmosphere that was nighttime in Arnlan. He had liked it though, cherished it as a guard against fiend or foe, as the blackest of pelts had not but to fade so effortlessly into the pitch surrounding. Though in lieu of the situation it was refreshing... he'd give it that much.
He had wandered as far as he had in that particular time of day to serve a few of many purposes. First and foremost to further acquaint himself with the land and all of its twists, turns, nooks and cranny's. Secondly, to find and associate himself with either of the Alphas. And thirdly to let himself be known among the pack itself so as not to encounter another situation such as the one he had previously had with the silent female.
Nevertheless on this specific outing he hadn't yet accomplished any of the goals which were set. He pondered on his progressive failure as the sound of rushing water graced his ears. A slight, nonchalant, turn of direction guided the handicap hybrid to its source. As he leisurely approached the bank of the aforementioned current of water a few peculiar smells made their way, winding about the iced over foliage from a ways off upstream. He continued his slow trot and deciphered the smells as the ivory pads were brushed with the tingling cold of water. He sat himself down. Female... male.. he wasn't close enough to guess accurately at age, rank, or source.
Allowing the edge of his right paw to brush against the water's feeble laps against the shore, he guided himself closer to the pair of smells. He detected no threat and wagered on the fact that there was a near freezing stream of water separating them. They wouldn't be fool enough to brave it's breadth just in attempt to capture him.
A few strides later he set himself down again in time to hear their wary pleasantries which ushered an amused smirk across the maw. He hadn't cared if they noticed him beforehand, but played on the thoughts that they were too preoccupied with one another to notice a lanky hybrid approach. He lowered himself down, the dirt meeting softly with the chest. Dangling both forepaws in the icy liquid he moved them around pensively, slowly, half wondering how to greet the two, half feeling for any vibrations from passing trout.
Without glancing up in acknowledgment he spoke, "It seems these forests are lacking in any conversationalists. But please, don't mind me. Proceed with your one syllable dialogue. It intrigues me."
He gave a warming smile in hopes of his sarcasm not coming off too harsh. It was all in good fun.

As Ecclesiastes stood, he suddenly heard the slight shuffle of leaves, and he could scent another Arnlan wolf. Male. And unfamiliar. Lifting his head, he rotated his ears slightly, trying to pinpoint the sound. The wolf was heading towards them. All the better: he wished to know his packmates better. Then the female greeted him in turn, and he did not know what else to say. Perhaps he should not have greeted her at all. His conversational and social skills were not at the level that you could call exceptional, nor even average. He was often lost in his own world, never talking to the ones around him.
Though he couldn't imagine trying to get to know others without speech.
He could hear the other male lying down, on the other side of the river, and flicked his gaze in that direction.
"It seems these forests are lacking in any conversationalists. But please, don't mind me. Proceed with your one syllable dialogue. It intrigues me."
Interesting greeting. Dipping his head towards the black male, he acknowledged him. "Conversation does not particularly intrigue me. Perhaps I have been hiding in the shadows for too long," he said, his eyes hinting a smile, but nothing else. Emotions were very rarely shown in his case. "My name is Ecclesiastes.. I believe you are of this pack, as are you." He said to the female, pausing and looking towards the dark-coloured male. "How are you... today?"

It was true, at first, her conversation with the untalkative male beside her had made her unaware of the approach of another. Though after the male had grown silent, and Phoenix had almost given up on a response entirely. She was about to speak again when the noises of the second male's footfalls came to her ears. She quickly swiveled her delicate head in the direction of the sounds' source just in time to see the lanky ebony male emerge from the tree line of the same color. Phoenix noted how easily he blended in here, and how much easier hunting and sneaking would be for him in this territory, and, if only for a moment, Phoenix was slightly jealous of his advantage.
As the other male laid down at the opposite end of the river and spoke, Phoenix noted the evident sarcasm in his tones. The comment tugged a small smirk to Phoenix's dark lips and nothing more, and after the male beside her had commented, she took her turn to speak. "Aye sir, in the art of conversation, I often find myself a bit lacking," she said with a jovial tone, though her face, which hardly showed emotion did not verify her demeanor.
As the male beside her spoke his name, Phoenix decided that indeed now would be a good time for an introduction of sorts. "And I am Phoenix...." she spoke with a slight inclination of her head in formal greeting, and giving a nod to Ecclesiastes, she replied, "And yes, I am of Arnlan." Turning her head to the black male across the icy depths that separated them, she waited for his turn of response.

Dante continued to divert his gaze from his new acquaintances, forepaws continuing their circular oscillation. A curious ear perked in response to both of their excuses for the lack of fluent diction.
"Sir? Come now, you'll make me feel old."
A facetious smile graced the lips once more as the current decided to change paths. A twitch in the paws was followed by complete stoicism. He frowned.
"You kids hungry?"
It was said moreso as a statement for there was no time for any feedback on the query. As soon as the sentence had reached its peak a medium-sized trout was batted effortlessly out of the water and onto the land. Erecting himself, the brute shook both paws of their frigid liquid coating. Ascending onto all fours he gave an exaggerated stretch.
"Yes, I've only just recently joined. Though so far I'm enjoying it quite thoroughly. Oh, and my name is Dante."
He gave a few curious sniffs at his catch and finally directed his sightless gaze at the other two, the head giving an abrupt jerk toward the fish in gesture.[/sub]

He often wondered if his lack of shown emotions or his silence perturbed others. These two seemed particularly talkative. At least, from the ones he had met. Gaze flicking upwards to the black wolf on the other side of the river, he noticed that his eyes were completely white and seemed slightly glazed over. Strange. At times, Ecclesiastes' pupils contracted so much that they were nearly invisible.. but he had never seen one with such pure-coloured optics. Perhaps... he was blind? He would not question it. Sense enough told him that it was not a subject to be questioned.
He gave no reaction to what the female beside him and himself were referred to. Kids. He had not heard of that word. Or at least... it only triggered something about sheep. Or goats. Ecclesiastes was more than sure that he was a wolf, but perhaps, if the black wolf was blind... Dante, was it? Well. He had just caught a fish. Did he mean to offer it to them?
Ecclesiastes would not cross the river for a mere fish just yet. He hardly ate, and his trust did not completely lie in this... Dante. He would have thought he was falling into a trap set up by the female and the other male, but he could tell that it was completely unplanned. No tension to get any plan right hung in the air. So he spoke, nodding shortly to the black male as he did so.
"No, thank you. I'm not a big eater of fish."

Phoenix's cold stare locked onto the ghost-like orbs of Dante's eyes. She had never before in her life seen such eyes like the pupil-less one's that Dante possessed. The blonde she-wolf even wondered if the black male was blind, and if so, he did a grand job covering it. While she was not truly impressed by Dante's sudden aquatic hunt, managing this feat while lacking vision was another story altogether. Phoenix refrained from questioning the matter any further, however, for she knew such questioning would be deemed rash and even rude.
Diverting her gaze once locked on Dante's dark from now to the cool blue's of the male, Ecclesiastes, beside her. He hardly ever spoke, which was alright by Phoenix according to her logic, talking too little was far better by all means than talking too much. Truly, the only wolves that could really set Phoenix off were the ones who tended to ramble.
Her bright eyes, as cool and icy as the water that separated her and Ecclesiastes from Dante, traveled to the faces of each of her fellows, analyzing each of them quite carefully. Upon Dante's offering of the fishy delicacy, Phoenix shook head head, "No thank you, fish is most certainly an acquired taste," she said with a lighter tone in her voice to imply a polite decline. Though, she appreciated the generosity of the big male, her cautious nature would not let her accept food from wolves she had just barely gotten acquainted to. Phoenix leaned back on her haunches and took a seat at the river's edge, the cool waves of the river baring touching the tips of her toes.

He could sense the slight unease in the air. After they both declined his offer of fish an amused chuckle was ushered without hesitation. He gave a satisfied lick to his catch and batted it back into the icy flow below him.
"Not quite my taste either." He had wondered if they had yet to notice his disability, as was with his every acquaintance it was among the first things they seemed to notice. It didn't bother him in the least. He allowed the shoreline to guide his path as he coasted silently up and down stream going only a few steps at a time. He seemed to be measuring its approximate width and height. It seemed easy enough at the slimmer parts. He continued his pacing.
"Have either of you greeted the Alphas as of yet? I've been in these lands but only three or so days and haven't come across either."
He allowed his movements to cease momentarily, taking a few steps back. This would be enough momentum...

He sat and said nothing, gaze still travelling between the female and the other male, wondering whether anything eventful would happen. Perhaps he didn't want anything to happen. But seeing as the black male across the river seemed to be the most talkative, it was probable that he would be the one to start any event, if it was likely at all.
Ecclesiastes watched as Dante seemed to measure up the river, and immediately the timber knew what was going to happen. But he would wait. Until it did.
"Have either of you greeted the Alphas as of yet? I've been in these lands but only three or so days and haven't come across either."
His eyes narrowed so slightly that even if a small insect crawled upon his eyelids, it would hardly notice the sudden movement. "Yes, I have, Dante," he said, "Both of them..." His voice trailed off. He did not mention the rank that he held. Nothing in his demeanor suggested it, either.
Shifiting ever so slightly, his gaze now did not wander towards the female. If Dante was to leap, Ecclesiastes did not want to be the one squashed under hefty paws.

Phoenix's stony gaze continued to follow the dark from of Dante back and forth in metronome with his pacing along the river's edge. As Dante stopped to somewhat analyze the layout of the river, Phoenix suspected that he might try to possibly leap across, or swim across, though the latter would leave Dante a very unhappy, cold, and wet wolf.
The blonde she-wolf listened to Dante's inquiry about encountering the alphas and Phoenix mind reeled back to her first meeting with Sofika when she was granted acceptance in Arnlan. "I have only encountered Sofika once upon my arrival into Arnlan," Phoenix spoke bluntly. She wondered though, about the other one, Karolek was it? Yes, Phoenix had not encountered the other twin as of yet, and she wondered if his personality matched that of his sister's.
She swiveled an ear to listen to Ecclesiastes speak, but still kept her gaze on Dante's most erratic pacing on the shore. So, at least someone had encountered both of the alphas as of so far. She nodded in understanding and as Dante's pacing stopped and he began to back up, Phoenix scooted to the side, not wanting to be a safety cushion if Dante were to fall during his great leap.

[ Please forgive my procrastination. ^^; ]
"Yes, I have, Dante," he said, "Both of them..." "I have only encountered Sofika once upon my arrival into Arnlan," Phoenix spoke bluntly.
He registered this briefly and gave a conclusive nod before allowing every muscle in his body to tense. His back paw shifted slightly in the icy terra, and he was off.
The small space he had given himself for momentum allowed two full-fledged bounds before he reached the shoreline, all four paws clenched downward in unison to allow a final leap, hopefully across the river which separated them. He had noticed their small movements to avoid his inevitable leap and gave a curt chuckle as a wave of snow flew freely from behind his now soaring body.
It seems like an eternity when you're flying... and an in an instant you come tumbling down..
He had miscalculated, quite unlike him. Perhaps it was the fish.. yes, must've been. He clung with a death grip to the embankment, the lower half of his body submerged underwater, and wet and quite frozen from any helpful movement. He clawed uselessly at the mixture of snow and dirt before him, puffs of fogged breath came in shorter intervals. He began to shake slightly from the cold and glanced forward, his senses quite dulled leaving him unable to detect approximately where the other two where. His speech came in broken spurts.
"C-c-could you h-help a blind f-f-fool out?"
He attempted a somewhat humorous and defeated smile, but failed, as regulating his breathing seemed to be higher in his priorities at the moment.
