Within the cool dark confides of Arnlan's pristine shadowed forest two pups strolled leisurely, arguing with one another about silly things, mostly how big the biggest wolf they had ever seen was, who had last caught the largest rabbit...puppy things. They certainly stood out, one pup larger and older by all appearances was bright white, and pink he was almost ghastly in comparison to the smaller, younger pup, who'd coat was a more normal brown.
The two youth snapped teeth at one another and giggled, until the male stopped, his over sized ears shooting up in alertness. His pink maw slightly agape as he sniffed around. "I...I think we might have stumbled we aren't invited..." the older pup licked his lips, he could smell the marked barrier of the territory and he worried.
However, the smaller female sighed, and shook her head. "No, of course we weren't -invited- doofus. Its a pack, I lead us out here. I want to join this one." she held her head up high, a cocky little spark of a pup, she trotted around the gangly male and hummed. "I heard, that the wolves here are freakish abominations that can climb trees and ambush their victims from the shadows above." as the little pup told the story she bared her teeth to add emphasis on how scary this place was...she was obviously seemed to...elaborate upon whatever stories she had heard.
"You are...a complete and total freak Viv...I mean they wouldn't possibly want us...I can't climb trees and I'm not sure that you can either. " The albino froze and looked around, out of the two, he seemed the most cautious. "What if they decide to kill us?"
"Then they kill us." The female called Viv shrugged dismissively, lifting her head in a puppy's howl. The sound was quickly cut off as the white male sat on her, muffling her complaining by howling himself, this time the sound of a more maturing pup, but crackling with the transition from pup to adult...it appeared that even though Vivian started the call, the older pup was going to take responsibility for her actions.
"Ow...dammit Pete, you creeper." Vivian crawled out from under him and shot the boy a dirty look. Now all there was to do was wait.

Mortil yawned absently as he wandered through the grim darkness of Arnlan. He didn't particularly know what he was doing or where he was going, except for the fact that he was bent on uncovering yet some more undiscovered parts of Arnlan. The fact that he still hadn't finished uncovering the whole layout irritated him slightly, which was the prime reason he was out and about at this time of day.
Whatever time that was. Time seemed to stand still in Arnlanian territory, a fact Mortil never failed to appreciate. He liked the feeling of stasis, though not too much mind. He bemused contemplation of this continued for awhile, before he caught himself almost running dead into a tree.
"Damn." He muttered, curving around his almost collision. "I need to stop doing that."
It was then that he heard the first howl, young and somewhat innocent. He lifted his face to the sky, sniffing experimentally into the air when a second howl, older, but not by much, broke the silence. In a flash, the male sprinted towards the border, his curiosity aroused.
It took him about ten minutes to reach the origin of the howls, and the two pups that apparently made them. One white and one brown. The ash-grey warrior stayed in the shadows, but chose to spoke. His dry voice echoed slightly, hollow and a bit eerie.
"Well met, young ones. You stand within the confines of Arnlanian territory. I am no sentry, but I would defend this border. You have three options, young ones. Name yourselves, turn away, or face a swift death from my fangs."

The small brown female moved quickly to fill the space between herself and sound but just as swiftly a large white paw nabbed her and pulled her back before she could reach him.
"Well met, young ones. You stand within the confines of Arnlanian territory. I am no sentry, but I would defend this border. You have three options, young ones. Name yourselves, turn away, and face a swift death from my fangs."
Peter sighed, cocking a brow at the statement, still mindful to keep Vivian down while kept an eye out. He was the diplomat of the two, the one who did the talking...he -feared- what the brown pup would say or do in the presence of this male, no matter how funny it would have been. "I'm Pete. She's Viv." He gestured her free paw at the female pup.
"But as a matter of courtesy I'd like to get your name too...just to cover our bases...if you don't mind." the albino smiled, flipping the fur out of his face. "Besides, you're not a sentry, thus it would be outside your bounds to kill anyone, as cute as your use of 'and', and not 'or' is. And if you'd have been a higher rank, you'd have flaunted it already...that's just how wolves are." Pete hummed, and underneath him, Vivian stifled a laugh, it appeared that threats were basically blaz'e to these youth, they were calling his buff.
"We want to join your pack."
Finally wiggling free Vivian shook herself and sneezed. "Yea."

[Damn typos. Damn them I say!]
"Besides, you're not a sentry, thus it would be outside your bounds to kill anyone, as cute as your use of 'and', and not 'or' is. And if you'd have been a higher rank, you'd have flaunted it already...that's just how wolves are."
"We want to join your pack."
Mortil laughed softly, stepping from the shadows like a ghost. He admired the reasoning, but feared that it was very much within his bounds to kill...anyone.
"As you well know, that is not my choice to make. However, it is in my power to call one who can decide. Wait." He lifted his head and sounded a bell-toned howl, calling any sentries to the border where he stood. He turned back to the pups.
"I know the sentries are going to ask what you can do for the pack, so I'll make the job easier on them by asking you myself. Oh, and the name is Mortilitas Umbra...call me Mortil."
He suddenly brought his face very close to Pete's, his fangs baring and a manic, demonic grin lighting up his face. Then he spoke, and his voice took on a different quality. Cruel...and cold.
"And 'ware your words, little one. I, unlike Mortil, do not hesitate to kill anyone or anything. Count on it. But you have courage. I like that...vaguely."

Yes, this was creepy, a very good creepy Pete noted it, and while Vivian's eyes got wide and she hid behind the bigger male, Pete's eyes stayed very very calm and collected. "If you wanted us dead, we'd be dead already. I get it."
He sighed, and shrugged, they were just puppies after all, as for what they were good for...well that was a bit harder to say. "We can hunt, but I can't imagine that any wolf couldn't do that. Vivian's good at hiding, and she likes to scrap. I'm better though." he said it pretty deadpanly but still, he was confidant.
As Pete was talking Vivian peeked her head to look at the adult a bit more throughly, her face twisting up at the look of him. "Pete can fight better than me." she said it almost in disgust, "But he can't hide as well...he's too bright, which makes him stand out...usually though people find him creepy enough to leave us alone."

[$(&%$ SORRY – been busy/was away for a few days. Sorry it’s crap]
Luckily for Mortil, assistance was quite near, and already on the way. Her work load had rapidly increased since Nightblood’s promotion to beta. While there hadn’t been much in the way of interest at the borders since the pack meeting she could hardly be expected to be at all places at once. It was more than that that had been wearing her down. The promise of pups, new blood, was exciting. Her love of pups was hardly a secret – or at least it wouldn’t have been if more had been present. But the reactions and emotions of other pack members, her acquaintances and worse still friends, was all too distressing.
Her arrival came just in time to hear the last of the pups’ words had been heard, and the Sentry’s mind was already ticking them over. As she slunk through the bushes to make her less-than-inspiring entrance (she just didn’t have the heart for it today) Crow gave a smile and a nod to Mortil. His bit of work was much appreciated. But this was not a social meet. Her attention was quickly put back onto the two adolescents. Truthfully, they were hardly out of puphood, especially the female. They wouldn’t be able to fill all the tasks of a full-grown wolf, but right now that was better than nothing. Her attention shifted to the larger of the two, the male. The female had certainly been right about his coat. In winter it would be suitable enough – white fur against white snow. Summer would prove a bit more difficult for the lanky adolescent. Stark ivory would stand out against the constant shade of the territory, surely sending up signal for any of his targets to up and move. Not that this had proved an issue before – if you weren’t suited to Arnlan, the dark lands would find some other use for your body. That was the way it worked, the way it always had been for as long as she could remember. If you couldn’t look after yourself then you could hardly be expected to be able to look after the pack and, well, nature would look after it all in the end.
Finally realizing just how straightly grim and serious her expression must have been, she gave the pair a warm smile, tilting her head to urge them to continue talking. Unless they took a very wrong step with their next step, she was inclined to accept them. After all, the alphas wanted their New Blood.

"Pete can fight better than me."
Mortil picked up the tinge of disgust in the female pup's tone. He smiled slightly.
"But he can't hide as well...he's too bright, which makes him stand out...usually though people find him creepy enough to leave us alone."
"Those who wish to be warriors have no need to hide," the scarred warrior said with a soft chuckle.
A moment later his nose picked up a familiar scent and he turned to face it. Sure enough, the sepia wolfess appeared. Mortil wagged his tail in greeting. "Hello Crow." he said, settling back on his hindlegs. "They seem sincere...The white one interests me."
Mortil turned back to face Pete. "If you can fight, I have a place for you...Arnlan has too few fighters as it is."
"However...I'm getting ahead of myself. Crow will decide...and although she cannot speak, I am sure she is inclined to accept you both."

When the female came both youth seemed to stop, Vivian with a curious intensity and Pete with more of a reserved, leery look, obviously he wasn't as quick to trust her, or anything else for that matter. And her silence only seemed to rouse his suspicions.
It wasn't until Mortil had said something about her supposedly muteness that he relaxed some...and the sentry's smile didn't hurt ease his mind. Pete smiled back but still seemed unsure, after all, this grey male sounded like...well, either a warlord or a pervert...he wasn't too sure just yet. Who said they were interested in someone...that was just to weird for him.
"I'm Pete, she's Vivian..."he trailed off, looking around for the smaller pup who seemed to have bounded off towards Crow, the albino cringed, hoping the older female wouldn't eat his companion.
"Hi." Vivian wagged her tail, hell she seemed to wag her whole body as she came up to Crow a big grin on her face. She was the bolder, less reserved of the two, that was for sure. But she at least acted like a puppy her age, and somewhat respectful, tilting her head and tail down submissively.
Pete sighed, seeming to calm a bit, turning his attention to Mortil yet again. "I can fight...I mean I'm not great..." he was actually pretty humble, he gestured a paw around and shrugged, seeming a bit awkward about this whole situation, oh he would have words with Vivian after this ordeal.
"I mean...whatever you two come to a decision about, we don't want to be a nuisance..."

The sentry gave another nod to Mortil’s greeting and recommendation, appreciative of the opinion. He seemed to have no qualms about letting the youngsters in, and neither did she. It was summer, and there was enough food to go around. By the time winter had again laid it’s icy grip on the land they would be older, able to better assist in the support of the pack. A few more helping hands would be of great use in these times.
She gave nod to the male’s introduction. Though she couldn’t repeat names, there were stored away in the back of her mind. There were many now, wolves that had crossed over into the lands only to disappear. The male, Pete, needn’t have worried, a decision had already been reached. It was the little female, Vivian’s approach that sealed the deal. Crow mirrored the grin, tail whipping back and forth in reply. Her motherly cord struck. Lips pulled forward into a ‘hmm’ expression – part thoughtful, part playful.
She gave a nod of approval, a flick of the tail as she turned to leave. They were welcomed here, and the relaxed slink of her body demonstrated that. She paused for a moment and swung her gaze back to Mortil. The one visible blue eye rested on him questioningly for a moment before her head twisted back, gestured toward the packlands. It was a question; would he care to act as tour guide? Usually she didn’t mind taking on such duties herself, enjoyed getting to know new pack mates, but without more sentries there was not enough time. She needed to continue her patrol. If he was interested in taking on the young male as an apprentice getting to know him, a little more familiarity, might’ve helped.

Mortil gave Crow a slight nod. "I'll show them around." he promised, smiling. He watched as Crow melted off into the Arnlanian darkness. He turned back to the two.
"Well. I suppose I should bring you two to the Beta, see what she'll want with the both of you. Then we'll see about finding you someplace to stay. Until then...I have the pleasure of showing you two our home."
The ash-grey warrior smiled slightly. "You shan't be disappointed."

Vivian sighed as the adult female left, her ears drooping. "Awwwww." though her temporary sadness did little to stop the terrible wiggling of excitement contained in the younger pup, who quickly began doing laps around Mortil and Pete, bouncing around darting between their legs. "We did it! Pete we found a pack...and they didn't eat us...I told you they weren't gonna eat us...you never believe me." she paused and looked up at big gray male and smiled, her disgust now turning into interest and admiration.
"I hope I turn out looking as cool as him." she pulled her lips back at Pete in excitement and then tried to tackle the poor exasperated albino.
Pete just ignored the hyperactive and excited Viv, but he did smile and shake his head. "Um...thanks for showing us around." he was trying very hard not to seem as...enthusiastic as the younger pup, trying to be the mature one, but it was apparent in the glint in his eye that he too wanted to leap for joy and romp.
"Mortil...wasn't it? I...we...weren't too friendly right away, most packs, well...they um, try to fight first and ask questions later." he took a moment to heft a large unruly hind paw to scratch behind his ear, a bit of a nervous habit. "So, right then. Um...tour of the place, meet the beta, and...find someplace to stick us...after you." he grinned and gave a small gesture, after all he didn't want to keep Mortil long, least he try to eat them again.
