Chauncy would on occasion, not normal dog chasing a rabbit dreams either. though his paws did occasionally twitch and curl, and he made no end of woofles and whimpers. But Chauncy dreamt about many things, and that's what made him dangerous. He would often dream of the fighters pit, of fighting other dogs and baiting boars and bear. Though these were troublesome.
He also dreamt of having a warm home to go to, like many of the Hallow dogs did, with a human family that loved him and wanted him, and he would be useful. Those were the dreams that made him happy and he'd often dread waking in the morn...
But worse than that was when the two dreams bled together. Where humans attacked him, or when he had nightmares of biting onto some poor dog and never letting go...He wouldn't sleep the rest of the night after those....in fact it was just those dreams that kept the pitmix outside of the Village. No matter how much he desired to be like the other domesticated creatures of Hallow.
Words like feral...wild dog and beast were often used around Chauncy and he couldn't help but believe that what was said could be right. Afterall, why would anyone not say it if it wasn't true. Though Chauncy was still man's best friend at heart, and had always done his deeds with the intention of praise from his human.
He couldn't help but to wander into the village and atleast try to make friends. Dog or human....after all dogs were social creature among themselves and what was dog but man's best friend? Right?
Though fearsome in appearance the great blonde beast tried his luck at seeming trustable and sociable, a big smile on his face as he wagged his tail and played good pooch. As per usual he was shooed off, though the little human pups did come close...But after awhile Chauncy knew well enough to give up. Crestfallen and moping, dragging his paws over the cobble stones as he plodded off to get out of the way.
Out of the humans' way the pitmix could only whimper, watching what he couldn't have. And generally feeling lonely and having that picked on feeling.

Hum, dee, dum, hum dee dee dum….
*Paradigh hummed her song as she walked the stone streets of Hallow. Her head swung back and forth to the beat, sending her weighed down ear swinging in a pendulum manner. Her old paws danced in a stiff dance, creating a beat as her nails clicked off the stone. The little dog’s bright eyes sparkled as she laughed her greeting to the new day.*
Thank ya, God, for givin’ this old mutt at least one more day…
*The grey dappled mutt shook herself off, almost sending her off her aged feet. It had been about a year now that her owner had passed. NO denying she had a rough time with it, but she had come to the solid conclusion that it would soon be her time to go, so she would be seeing Cecily soon enough. But until then, she would live out the rest of her life to the fullest. Paradigh never considered herself a stray in these past year. She had stayed around the neighborhood, letting the people she had watch grow with her take her in every now and then. Paradigh was never want for anything, she kept herself at peace for what she had. A meal at this house, a spot by the fire at the other. The old dog had decided that if this was what God handed her, this is what she would take.*
Now, what’s that?
*The grey pooch got to her feet and took a big sniff. There was that scent again! It had been around for a while, but every time she went looking for the owner of it, it disappeared! Today would be the day. With the determination that only a smaller dog could possess, the old girl started off. Her curled tail swung above her as she hit her nose to the cobblestone. Her necklace scrapped the road a little, but it didn’t matter, she had a mission. Paradigh turned the corner, looked up, and saw the body of…yes! That must be him! She let out a little triumphant yip*
Well, there ya are!

The cheerful sound only served to make Chauncy leap to his paws. A stutter to his voice he only weakly managed to defend himself with a: "I didn't...d-didn't do any-anything..."
There was an audiable gulp as Chauncy looked the little grey mutt up and down, well...it didn't appear as though she was angry at him. But then again..why would have she been looking for him in the first place other than having some sort of beef with him. He fidgeted a bit as though waiting for something, attack or vocal abuse, either of the two, his ears back his scarred body tensed and defensive.
"I-I'm sorry...y-you were...looking fff-for me?"

*Paradigh jumped as the male jumped. The fear was just waving off this creature! The grey girl plopped her rump down and continued to wag her tail, creating a steady thud. She cocked her head, what a strange pup! What was he so jumpy about? Paradigh saw the scars, but smelled no ounce of malice on him. He was scared, and defending himself…strange behavior. Paradigh could tell that deep down he was a gentle soul, she had a way with things like that. Why would he so scared? One fluffy eyebrow raised in question as the smile shrunk a little on her lips*
It’s all cool, Pup! Didn’t do it? Didn’t do what? Just cool your britches, sonny, I ain’t got no problem with you!
*The old girl took her one black leg and scratched her perked ear. Despite his defensive posture, Paradigh wasn’t afraid. Maybe it was her nature, maybe is was the fact she could tell he wasn’t dangerous, most likely a combination of both. Stiffy, she got to her feet and shook, sending her abnormally large ears into a fit of flutters.*
And yeah, I was looking for ya! Been sniffin’ your sniff for a while, and ya’s seems to vanish everytime I look for ya! Ain’t no reason to be afraid of ol’ Paradigh now…

The casual friendly little demeanor of Paradigh caught Chauncy more off guard then, well, being caught off guard in the first place. He lifted a skeptical brow and then woofled, a noise he made when he was a little embaressed, and slowly he started to get a bit more comfortable, atleast the female wasn't here to be mad at him.
"I'm sorry," His voice was sincere but quiet, and he hadn't dared yet look the small grey mutt in the eyes. A stranger in a strange land, he couldn't help but seem submissive, there wasn't any fight in him anymore. "I..I didn't know anyone was looking for me." he kept his statements simple, not that he was a beast of small words, it almost sounded as though he tried to sound slow.
"I'm Chauncy...I washed up here...a while back...the humans don't like me...so I run alot...that's...that's why you couldn't find me..." he gave her a quick smile, though his ears were still tucked to the side of his head, and his tail tucked close to his body.

*Paradigh just sat and listened to Chauncy’s broken words. This was truly and injured soul. But no matter what his past contained, it was the old girl’s policy to start anew. She took a few, stiff steps forward, her head low, maybe, just maybe, trying to catch his eyes*
Chauncy, eh? Well, dawl, it seems as though life’s given you the short end of the stick thus far. But, hon, for now on you’re here, and Paradigh’s lookin’ out for ya…
*Paradigh was often found doing this. She was the grandmother of the area, and it was always up to grandma to fix old wounds. But this little guy seemed to have some deep ones. First of all, the first thing he mentioned was humans didn’t like him…such a harsh thing for a dog to feel. Paradigh didn’t even wonder why, it was none of her business unless he felt safe to share. Besides, by his physical state, she had some suspicions. He has just washed up, he said. Now THAT sounded violent. There was a definite difference between, “ I just sailed here” and “I just washed up”. But it was all relative to Paradigh. She just knew she had to help fix him up.*

A small confuzzled look passed the mutt's features as he further listened to the sweet old lady talk, she had a funny way of talking that made the young male smile somewhat. She seemed percistant to keep talking to him, to get to know him...and he couldn't say he didn't appreciate the effort, because well, Chauncy did, however alien it felt.
He peeked at her, his dull blue eyes hiding a hint of a spark. "You..don't have to do that Ms Paradigh." Chauncy perked his ears up a little and sniffed, it really should be him taking care of her, as the aged female could be endangered by the ruffians of this area. "But thank..you..for your concern."
Standing up Chauncy looked a bit lost for a second before talking. "So...what do you do here?" He was curious what the dogs here did, most served humans, and part of him hoped that PAradigh was a stray like himself, if only to give him some form of guidence.

Well…ya do have eyes…
*Paradigh’s grin sprung into full force again. Finally, the mutt had the confidence to look at her! Her wire brush of a tail flopped over her back in little wags. She took one for stiff step forward and sat down, letting out a little laugh* Ms Paradigh? Please, sonny, no need for formalities! I’m supossin’ ya wouldn’t want to be Mr. Chauncy!
*She stopped her jabbering as Chauncy stood up. He was indeed a smaller dog, but still bigger than her. It was apparent he had seen better days, but there was still something enduring about his rough, brutish look. Paradigh’s big golden eyes widened and she again stood up, tounge lolling and laugh musical*
Whadda I do? Well, I been trying to live day by day. But if ya mean a job…
*Paradigh’s eyes flicked the tiniest bit of sadness. Talking about the other dogs sometimes made her a little sad, but within a blink she was back to normal*
Naw, no job for me. Not really apart of the stray pack. People in that neighborhood
*She lifted a paw to indicate the direction she just came*
Tend to take care of my needs.

"Er, no, just Chauncy would be fine ma'am..." If Chauncy could've blushed he would have, embaressed as he was, he panted a little and then gave Paradigh a quick awkward smile. He was actually a bit disapointed to hear that she too kept company with humans.
"I suppose they would...the humans. You look like a good dog. They like good dogs." His thick blondfurred brows knitted together, it almost sounded as if the young male was perturbed at the idea. "I. I am not a good dog. " Chauncy made a small huffing noise, and paced some. "You're lucky that they like you..." He seemed to calm down some, becoming the somber beast that he was before.
"Its better than being with the dogs here," He gestured to the streets and alleys down the lane, "the strays...its best to stick with the good part of the pack Ms Paradigh...Echo and Wesley and they're like...well they seem like good blokes...you'd do well to stick with 'em." That was perhaps the most Chauncy could ever recall talking in Hallow, or maybe anywhere for that matter. "Most of the street mutts here are scavengers, scrappers and barely survivors from some place or another...tough dogs, some of them bad...the humans would never have them for some reason or another..."
He shook his head and yawned seeming to be finished with his peace...until his eyes softened some, and he seemed almost blurry eyed.
"Though I'd be lyin' if I didn't say I was jealous of you."

((ooc: I must say, I LOVE RPing with you!))
*Paradigh listened with somber eyes. She knew it. This poor fella had had an awful life. She didn’t interrupt, she just let it come off his chest. She could tell by his breathing and the look in his eyes that he wasn’t used to talking much. In a way, the old mutt took that as a compliment. Maybe it was her innocent looks, her personality, her acceptance. Either way, Chauncy trusted her. He might not have even known it yet, but he trusted her enough to give telling details of his past. The dog’s ability to hide his inside nature was rather compelling. For a moment he almost lost it. The moment he said he “wasn’t a good dog”. This confused Paradigh. What could he have done? She herself made her own woofly sound as she stood up and took a seat right next to him. The old girl was going to do something about this!*
Naw, now, Chauncy, I’m sure yous a very nice dog.
*Paradigh knew very well something had once happened, but to her, the past was past, and it was never to late to redeem yourself.*
And as for the other strays, now, you seem like a pooch without a home. Sure seems as though yous nice enough. Now, I know, I know, there’s some ruffians out here, but ain’t now way they’d mess with Paradigh!
*As a joke, she got to her feet and made a rather high attempt at a growl. It took all her coordination to lift the hairs on her neck, she honestly wasn’t sure if she had ever done that before! She swung her head up and winked under her drooped eye*
Jealous, are ya? Well, Chauncy, yous be followin’ me know, I thinks there’s something I can do about that..
*With a gentle yip, Paradigh began walked towards the main street*

((Ahhh! Thankyou, you know what, I love RPing with you too ^^))
Chauncy flopped down on his haunches, and looked over at the old female, still looking a bit ashamed, he wanted to whimper more than admit anything he had done, as he breathed a small whiney noise came out. "Hah...I wish." the mongrel played the part of careless toughguy, but he didn't sell it very well. "No...I'm no good dog...I used to kill blokes...dogs, boars, bulls...I'm a murderer." He was very quiet as he said it, looking very much so like any minute from then Paradigh was going to run off.
"The humans call me dangerous. They know what am...what I was...they think I'll attack them" Chauncy knew enough to be honest, he had been since he had came to Hallow, besides the signs of his past lay stricken upon his body in the form of the scars that marred his figure. "The dogs too." He smiled bitterly, but it seemed that he had long since come to grips with her near pariah status.
He admired the old lady's spunk, but with a suave step forward Chauncy played the part of the hero he had always wanted to, provided that Paradigh didn't run from him in a shamble after is admittance of his crimes...
"I'll take care of any hoodlums for you Ms Paradigh...you have no need to worry about -that-" He snapped his terrible teeth together and made a wide toothy smile. "So where are we going?" Chauncy paused, confidance lacking again, he really didn't know what to do, other than to sheepishly follow after the mutt.

*Paradigh cocked her head at his admissions. It was just as she suspected. The idea made her blood ran cold, but she knew that was his past, and it was time he did too*
Now, Chauncy, ya said ya did all these things, but ya ain’t doin’ that no more right?
*The fuzzy mutt didn’t even wait for an answer*
Of course not. The past is past and today is today! That’s all ya gots to remember!
*Paradigh laughed at the dog’s proclamation. A protector now? That was enough to prove her theories true! The mutt laughed and swung her ears around at the sound of his bear trap like jaws. And the smile he gave afterwards…now that was more like it! The next question came, and his confidence seemed to take a little dive. Paradigh turned her body around and gave him a sly little wink as she poofed her flopped ear out of her eye*
Well, Sonny, you’ll just have to trust me!
(Short and sweet!)

"I...I only did it, because I was asked to..." if he had known now what he did then, well, Chauncy would have prefered a swift death rather than the guilt that weighed him down now. He plodded after the female meekly, he was always honest about his past but never proud of it.
But still he followed the old female, he did trust her somewhat, but she was bringing him where he usually didn't dare to go-deeper into the human settlement. He whined, and loped along, but he followed, none too fast though.

Naw, now that’s past now pup! Time for Paradigh to show you something different…
*The old girl automatically went at a slower pace, her age and knowledge that Chauncy would be nervous made it so. The claking of her claws made a slow rhythm that echoed off the wall. Paradigh kept close to the walls usually. A small dog is an easy thing to miss when your driving a cart with horses! But this worked to her advantage also. By the whimpering, it was obvious this mutt wasn’t used to being out in the open. Baby steps. Get him out in public first, THEN get him in the middle of it!*
Aw, ain’t no reason to be scared now, Sonny, I know whats I’m doin’…
*They turned a corner only a block away from where they met, and it was there a cozy neighborhood sat. Not the rich part of town by any means. Humble little houses with the occasional flower garden. The road was cracked, but still usuable. The sound of people made the air buzz a little bit. There weren’t too many people out, but enough to let Chauncy know where he was. With a little ‘oof’, Paradigh sat her old behind down on the sidewalk, scratched her ear, and looked up at her new ward*
Well, whadda think of this, boy?

Chauncy only nodded weakly, sure the older female knew what she was doing, she seemed knowledgable enough, but still the pitmix couldn't help but feel like being drug into a den of adders. Still he whimpered a bit in the back of his throat images of humans charging him off their property with big sticks, defending their youth.
"What if...what...w-what if they come after me." His voice was hardly audible, meek as it was, he was sniffing around a mile a minute. Just to try to get an idea of what he was thrown into. It seemed dangerous. Or maybe just alien he couldn't tell.
"I...I don't know what I think of this...I don't want to get in trouble." he eyed the humans lazily going about their business, his form crunched down in hopes of being mistaken for being invisible.
