Olonai felt extremely foolish. He had not only been nervous since the beginning of this social exchange, but now he had placed Phoenix on the defensive and would receive far more questions than he liked answering. This entire ordeal would never occur if they had meant hunting or in a pack meeting with only a locking glance as their eyes roved or something equally minor that simply acknowledged the other. Unfortunately, that had not happened and Olo stared down at Phoenix who was poised defensively when he had bourn a most disgusting visage. He was a fool.
Phoenix's statement of understanding provided little assurance to Olonai that she would not forget what he had done on their very first meeting. True, he had not attacked her but Phoenix with her stoic voice could only be one type of wolf in Olonai's mind: a watcher. She withheld her own emotions inside to snap the sharpest pictures of those surrounding her and understand them best while permitting, internally, her emotions to coincide or not to lessen the pressures in the circle of conversation. She might be a good spy if she could play a different role during her observations, but Olonai though that Phoenix could not change her behavior easily. It seemed so much a part of her and an attempt to guard herself. Would he ever see behind that mask?
The question Tokokuni offered caused Olonai only become further disgruntled. Was he part of the pack? Did she think he was a slave and they were no longer equals in this ring? Was she trying to make him angry? Olonai attempted to hold his tongue from berating her and barely succeeded with a gradual inhale and exhale which seemed more like a sigh than a calming breath. Perhaps, it was both for what a sigh might be worth. "Even if I were a slave, would I not be part of this pack? Yet I bear no mark against me yet. I am as you are, a subordinate. As for later, I do not know if I shall ever rise or fall." He stated calmly. Olonai refused to bite the bait again or let his cumbersome mind entangle him. He must remain calm.
