Mortil felt his paw connect with something, but it didn't feel...right. Then a form clung fiercely to him, and his single eye widened in horror.
"Mortil! Stop this!"
"What? I...Revolution, how..?" He stopped dead in his tracks. The scene was worse than he thought. His wounds sent a sharp pain through his body, and when he saw just how hurt Revolution was, he shook slightly, gently nudging her with his nose. "It's okay. I'm sorry." He exchanged a look with the elder wolf. "If you would see to her, I would gladly declare the debt paid in full. But you- He glared hard at Archer. "You are a coward, devoid of honor. But I will spare you. But only because Revolution asked me to. Get out of my sight."
He turned to back to Revolution and the elder wolf. "I'm so sorry Revolution. Mortilitas Umbra hunted well tonight, but at your expense.."
Bleeding and tired, Mortil collapsed against the ground, too tired and in pain to even lift a paw. No! Not now you fool! This is no time for weariness! he thought to himself. But he could not move.

"What? I...Revolution, how..?"
"I never go back on my word. I told you were are friends, and I didn't want to die and never see you again, so I held on" She didn't let go of him, her face buried against him, though every muscle in her body told her not to move and to just sleep. She felt her paws slipped from Mortil's neck, and the darkness threatening to swallow her again. The female wolf sighed happily as the brown elderly wolf moved forward to catch her.
"It's okay. I'm sorry."
She nodded, very weak and tired. It seemed impossible for her to still be awake, but she still was. Archer managed to get up, his coat covered with a mixture of blood and mud, and it was slowly dripping off of him. He was starting to resemble a beast from the deepest depths of hell.
"If you would see to her, I would gladly declare the debt paid in full
The wolf carried her several feet before laying her down gently on a bed of moss. She had lost a lot of blood, and he snarled as Archer looked over at her, telling him to get lost. Revolution wagged her tai limply, weakly. She almost immediately had to stop; it drained too much of her remaining strength. Her voice was faint, soft, and almost inaudible. "Mortil, are you going to be all right?" Even now, when she was broken and beaten, she still had a kind smile. She cared for Mortil more than herself.
But you-"You are a coward, devoid of honor. But I will spare you. But only because Revolution asked me to. Get out of my sight."
Archer began to limp away, but turned back to look at the male who glare at him with hatred. "Just to let you know, she never whimpered, or begged for me to stop. She took it without a sound, and did not cry for help. Even when she was bleeding and most likely about to die, she never gave up hope that'd you'd come"
With that, and the Elderly wolf chasing him away, Archer limped off deep into the woods, to rest and heal for the next several days. The moment Mortil went down, Revolution was up, padding over to him, then proceeded to lick his wounds until the bleeding stopped. The elderly wolf spoke gently to Mortil. "My Name is Zao by the way" He help Revolution to lay down, her head on Mortil's back as she went into a gentle sleep, her tail wrapped around Mortil's body.

"My Name is Zao by the way"
Mortil nodded absently, laying his own head more comfortably on his paws. He felt a furry tail curl around his frame, and stared at Revolution for a long while before looking away, sighing bitterly.
"She puts her love in the wrong place." He murmured softly to the old wolf. "I deserve no such thing from her."
He looked at the older wolf, with an almost desperate appeal in his eyes. That one look transferred all the knowledge of Mortil's pain, sorrow, and tragedy in one glance. Mortil moaned, half in pain and half in frustration.
"You are older and wiser than me, Zao. Why did she pick me? Why couldn't she pick someone else?" his voice was anguished.

"She puts her love in the wrong place." "I deserve no such thing from her."
Strong sense of hearing came in handy. Revolution wagged her tail, it thumping gently against Mortil. She opened one eye, staring at him. Zao listened to his young ally. He thought over how best to answer this. "Love is a powerful thing, and can redeem sins" It was the best answer he could come up with. With that one look, the one desperate appeal from a young male to a wise elder such as Zao, the older male wolf finally understood how truly love could blind those. "If she loves you as you say, would she condemn you be betraying your trust? This question is the most important thing. If you cannot trust her, she will not trust you"
"You are older and wiser than me, Zao. Why did she pick me? Why couldn't she pick someone else?"
Revolution awoke to those words, one light paw held out to stop the male from answering. She walked to the front of Mortil, and laid down in front of him, one paw gently craddling his face. "You want to know the answer to that. It's simple." She then leaned in, and kissed him, her soft lips against his. The female held it for a moment before looking t him and then whispering the answer in the air. "You needed someone to help you with your wounds, and I needed a friend, a companion, someone I felt safe with." She looked him in the eye, and those blue sightless eyes stared at him, telling the hurt and pain she had felt through her life.

"You want to know the answer to that. It's simple."
Mortil started when Revolution kissed him, his golden eye wide with shock. He had forgotten, he realized. Being alone for so long had taught him many things. It taught him how to survive, how to fight, how to kill, and how to maim. It taught him nature's uncaring nature, and how cruel the world could be. But it had taken from him so much. It had taken his trust, his bonds of fellowship, and his pack. It had taken his life away. Mortil suddenly became aware that he wasn't really living a life...just living out a hollow existence. Had he really fallen that far?
I let my demons blind me to what is important in life, he thought, staring at Revolution's eyes. He could see that she could understand.
"You needed someone to help you with your wounds, and I needed a friend, a companion, someone I felt safe with."
Mortil slowly leaned in closer and returned her kiss. He drew away, managing to move his body enough to sit on his haunches. He raised his head into the air and howled, mournfully, and yet it was free, exultant. "I...I am Mortilitas Umbra, The Death Shade, Last Scion of Kumori Shikon, which is no more. My father was Ithel, and my mother Eoril. Three hundred skulls I have taken in combat against my foes, with only my eye to pay for it. I have seen comrades die and comrades betray me. I have never forgiven and I have never forgotten. But I have let my demons haunt me for too long..."
He smiled slightly. It was a start. The road of redemption was long and rough. But it was a start. "You need a friend, Revolution. Let me be that and more. I will be a bane to your enemies, a plague upon those that wrong you. I will be your shadow, your shade. I will help you look for your brother."
Mortil sank back down again. He was tired, and sleep called him. Before fully falling asleep, he looked at Zao. "What will you do, elder one? Your honor deserves not to be stained by joining those spineless wolves again."

She smiled against his lips as he returned the kiss. Then, he moved away, much to her secret disliking. Revolution heard him shift on to his haunches. Both ears perked toward him as he howled, the sound strange and yet so familar. The female wolf knew the howl of the male was like a release from darkness, from and imprisonment. That made her happy to have been the one to set her freind free. To his howl, she added her own, higher in pitch and almost as happy as Mortil own was. As if they had connected minds, she stopped the moment he did, looking at him with blue eyes that did not see, but she understood.
"I...I am Mortilitas Umbra, The Death Shade, Last Scion of Kumori Shikon, which is no more. My father was Ithel, and my mother Eoril. But I have let my demons haunt me for too long..."
She moved forward, limping a little on a leg she had not realized was hurting. Her body was incredibly strong if she could take a beating like that and still live afterward. Her own blood soaked her coat, and she knew they need shelter, both needed her healing skills and she needed to help Mortil once again.
"You need a friend, Revolution. Let me be that and more. I will be a bane to your enemies, a plague upon those that wrong you. I will be your shadow, your shade. I will help you look for your brother."
Revolution nodded her thanks, wathing him lay back down on the cold ground. She laid back down, her head on his should, gently examinint the old wound before checking over the others. She licked the wound, and her saliva formed a blood proff barrier, as she had known it would. "Thank you" She stopped to look at him, his sleepy form still awake. "You've done so much, and even become like a…" With a moment of hesitation to her sentence, she finished it. "the mate I have never known to exist."
What will you do, elder one? Your honor deserves not to be stained by joining those spineless wolves again."
Zao, who had been sitting and listening to their conversation turned his head to male. "I have friends here that will take me in, as they can do for you. Revolution, Mortil, I could take you to my den. Its only through those trees there. See the fallen log, that's the enterance. My mate and I made it long ago before Archer and his gang arrived."
Revolution looked up at the male who made her think of a grandfather she had always wanted, and smiled before continuing tolick Mortil's wounds.

"You've done so much, and even become like a…" "the mate I have never known to exist."
Mortil smiled, half sadly and half sleepily. He was glad that he could provide some measure of comfort for Revolution, but knew that she would not be his mate. He loved as a concerned brother would, that much was true, but nothing more. He wanted to protect her, to make up for those that he could not.
"I appreciate your hospitality, Zao. One night then. I do not wish to intrude." He turned to stare at Revolution for a few brief moments. "Indeed, I'll help you look for your brother. But after that...well, we can talk later." He yawned, wincing as it triggered pain in his lithe form.
"But for now...I'm really, really tired."

Revolution smiled back at her friend. She could not describe wit words how much it meant to have a male that actually being there for her. She was so happy, and yet, scared of losing him like she had lost everyone else. Revolt was alive she hoped.
"I appreciate your hospitality, Zao. One night then. I do not wish to intrude.""Indeed, I'll help you look for your brother. But after that...well, we can talk later." He yawned, wincing as it triggered pain in his lithe form.
Zao nodded, and then watched them. Revolution listened closely to him. She thanked him softly with a soft kiss on the head. Her words were not accurate to tell him how much she owed him and how much he meant to her at that moment. Had fate made it so that they had met, or had it just been luck? Either way, she was happy.
"But for now...I'm really, really tired."
The female senses his weak state and gently grabbed his scruff. It hurt, but she did not cry out, or wince as she pulled Mortil onto her back. She ignored her own pain, focusing on Mortil's needs as she always had done with her brother, and would continue to do. "Come on sleepy head, lets get out of the open, you know they might just come looking for us." With that, she motioned to Zao who led them over to a three foot tall and six foot wide tree. She lowered herself, and then crawled forward. Although big, the tree wasn't very long and soon, she found herself in a warm den, spacious like her own, but warm.
Revolution trotted over to the soft pines in the back, laying Mortil down gently, and then flopping onto her side for a moment. The wounds were stinging, but Rev knew that the warmth would be good.

"Come on sleepy head, lets get out of the open, you know they might just come looking for us."
Mortil felt her gently laying him down, and he muttered sleepily, tail half wrapping around Rev. "You didn't have to do that. I would've been more than capable of dragging myself in, thank you very much." He yawned again, closing his eyes.
For once in a long time, Mortil felt like he belonged, and that he mattered. Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad to join a clan again, he thought as he drifted off to sleep. He'd bounce the idea off Revolution eventually, at least see what she thought. But for now...
Mortil fell asleep before he even finished the thought.
(I think we should make a new thread where we actually look for Rev's brother =P)
