Teak blinked as he was practically dragged out the door. He hadn't realised the strength the bigger dog held. He held his head high as they ran, trying to keep the ham balanced.
More clattering came from the back of the butchery. Had the man seen them? Teak's oversized ears pressed against his neck as his legs moved even quicker - both in attempt to keep up with Shantik and to try to get as far away as possible.
"Whashat, teak?"
"ee nee' 'oo go." A soft whine emitted from the back of his throat as he mumbled through clenched teeth. There was no way they could keep running like this. "Fin' som' pla' 'oo hide." And hopefully they wouldn't find it necessary to drop the prize. Skidding round another corner, the street was reached again. Why did she have to go for the biggest thing she could get her teeth around?!

At first, Shan couldn't make up what Teak was trying to say. She tried slowing down, worried that he might be hurt or something, when she heard him speak again.
Fin' som' pla' 'oo hide.
Find some place to hide! Got it! Shan leapt into the air, headed for the trash cans she saw at the end of the alley. They were perfect!
(So shooort...TT^TT)

Teak squeaked as he became forcibly airborne. His jaws unclenched from the ham and he tumbled to the ground. He glanced up from his spot on the ground. But no matter - it seemed Shantik had set her eyes on a target.
The blue mutt forced himself to his feet, wobbling slightly as he stood up. Cobblestones certainly weren't the best surface to take a fall on, and he could already feel a couple of choice bruises forming. As he shook off the collected dust from his coat, his ears caught heavy foot falls.
"Stay there!" he barked at the larger dog. Turning and ambling forward, he found himself face to face with the butcher. The man was naturally tall and broad shouldered, and years of cutting up carcasses had left him with well developed tone. Teak glanced up at him, shoulders hunched. He'd certainly be more difficult to out-run than many of the shop owners here. But, apparently seeing that Teak had taken nothing, it was not a chase the butcher wanted. The man stomped a great big boot and yelled something. While the scruffy dog didn't understand the words, there was no mistaking the tone: Piss off. He did just that scuttling down the street and ducking out the alleyway.
---
After a few minutes of his own silent hiding, Teak returned. The butcher was gone from that particular spot, he was glad to see. Slinking lowly and sticking close to the walls, he stalked over to the trashcans the larger shepherd cross had dived for earlier, hoping she was there and that he hadn't lost a meal. There was a number of things that could've happened in his absence...

Shan had scarcly noticed that Teak had fallen from the ham. She circled around the corner and hid in the trash bins, placing the ham on the roughly not-quite-clean-but-much-cleaner-than-the-trash-can street and waited. She looked back, however, seeing that Teak was gone. When she caught sight of the butcher, she shuddered, seeing tiny Teak at the man's feet. But the butcher didn't hurt him, just ordered him off. Which was presicly what Teak did.
Shan watched him scamper away, and it took about three minutes for the realization hit her: She was alone. And bored. She looked back at the ham, but decided that eating it would prove cruel and disloyal to her new friend. So she waited, laying down and letting out a long sigh. She couldn't leave; Teak had ordered her to stay. But she was Bored!! What to do...?!
Upon hearing the sound of slight paw-falls, she looked up to see Teak walking back towards her. She let out a happy bark and dived for him, a wide grin on her face. "Teak!"

"Teak!"
Teak jumped back a little, firstly rather feeling a little surprised that Shantik was still there and hadn't ended up chasing after a cat or some-such and secondly freaked by the sudden move. All herunbounded energy sure kept him on edge.
Slowly approching back, he eyed off the ham, looking rather nervous. It took a moment of silence before he had collected himself and could do anything. He looked to her, blinking slowly but rapidly, not entirely certian what to say or do next. "Wha... What do you want to do?" He was clearly still frazzled by the whole thing.
[Gah, that's horrid. So sorry it's almost nothing - at a total loss of what to say atm :/]

(Hey, at least I can work with it! =D)
Shantik blinked, watching him, thinking him rathe jumpy. She tilted her head and expressed her worry for him. "Are you ok, Teak?" She spoke slowly, caringly, but her energy-filled attitude leaked into the question none-the-less.
She smiled and grabbed the ham, dragging it towards him. "Here, have some. Eat as much as you want! Don't worry about me none!" She grinned, sitting next to him, but looking around, keeping watch for the butcher or any other humans.

"Are you ok, Teak?"
"Yeah... yeah." Just shaken. He gave a gentle snort. The small bruises he had attained when he fell throbbed softly, but nothing else was injured, except perhaps his pride. He'd been through worse.
"Here, have some. Eat as much as you want! Don't worry about me none!"
After eyeing Shantik off for a second, the smaller mutt shuffled his was over to the massive ham. It was huge, truely, and he silently wondered how she'd gathered the strength to even lift it. He hovered over the smoked meat hungrilly, like a buzzard over a carcass. However, something made him stop from diving in. His attention shifted back to the much larger dog.
"Didn't you have to..." He paused. No, he couldn't remember what her exact words were. "Do something, or..." He trailed off, ending the sentence instead with an uncertain shrug and a questioning look.

Shan looked at him a moment in thought before grinning. "Oh, yeah! I gotta find something interesting for Ms. Alpha dog!" She remembered, turning and sniffing around, thinking that maybe there might be one around here.

[ Ahhh, nvm XD I've been having some brainfarts myself lately - just like the below ]
Somewhat regretfully, Teak pulled himself away from the ham. "I thought... well, you stole something didn't you? You have it now?" She had to get something interesting? Food was food and she had it already - and to him that ham was looking pretty darn interesting.
He stood somewhere between the snuffling female and the prize, uncertian what was happening. Where was she going?! Teak parked himself down in a huff. The confusion was making his head spin.

Shan looked back at him, flicking her ears. "Yes, but I'm not sure if that's what she meant..." She sighed, pouting at the ground. "'Course she did say...'steal something from the humans.' ...she didn't say anything exact...I guess I can take what's left of the ham to her, after you've had your share. And I'll not eat any of it..."

"Yes, but I'm not sure if that's what she meant..."
She…? She who? Shantik was stealing because some over dog told her to? How strange. Teak tilted his head, causing his oversized ears to flop down. He didn’t understand at all.
Finally he sighed, giving up on trying to make sense of all that she was saying. “I don’t get it…” He murmured, picking himself back up.
He trotted back behind the trashcans to the ham. Lifting a paw, he scratched at the thick layer of semi-cooked skin and fat that coated. That was going to take a lot of effort to get through… Still uncertain, the slate grey mutt turned back to his partner-in-crime. “You… uh… sure you don’t want any?
[Urg, sorry!]

(Sorry about what?)
Shantik shrugged and shook her head. She didn't want to drag Teak into her troubles any more than she already had. She smiled at him and sat down, flicking her tail dissmissivly. "Nah, I'll be fine. I'll keep watch for any other humans."
Seemingly totally calmed down, completly contradictary to her first attitude, Shan lept onto the porch of a house oppisite the butcher, to keep watch as Teak ate.

[Just the posts being short and all]
"Nah, I'll be fine. I'll keep watch for any other humans." Teak held his fluffy ears back, still feeling uncertain. But she said to go ahead, and his stomach was empty and sore and certainly urging his on as well...
He turned, lowering himself to the food. He was safe - Shantik was looking out and he was certain she greet any human approach with quite a commotion. It took quite some time to chew past the thick skin - it was so chewy and dense that his teeth found it difficult to cut through. Once that was done in no time to scoff down the flavorful meat. A fair chunk was missing now. Nowhere near half, the cut of meat was far too big for that, but enough to quite contently fill his stomach.
Done, he didn't raise up, but stared for a moment at the other. He narrowed his bright gold eyes in thought as he studied her. "You said you were stealing this for someone...?" He was curious as ever - he'd never thought of stealing for anyone but himself. Working together to steal it and sharing the results, sure, but this sounded different.

(Oh...Oh, well.)
Shan smiled at Teak and looked about, keeping her green eyes wide. Once, she saw a pair of children walking by, but that was it. One of them seemed slightly interested in what a couple dogs were doing out here, but they quickly left. Shan was quickly bored, but was brought around by Teak's voice.
"You said you were stealing this for someone...?"
Shan twisted around and faced him, happy for the distraction. Sitting down with a huff, she nodded, ready to launch into her tale. Then, remembering that not many dogs liked it when she told stories, she paused and asked.
"Um, well...it would mean me telling you the full story, if you don't wanna be confused...do you still wanna listen...?"
Her whine was sad. She found it hard when she was chewed out for talking too fast or too much. As an afterthought, she added.
"I'd promise not to tell it too fast!"

[ Gah, sorry for taking awhile! D: I have the worst memory ever ]
Teak watched Shantik with interest. All this behavior, the reason she was doing these things were… odd. There must’ve been some reason behind it. He barely noticed how quiet the streets around here were that morning.
"Um, well...it would mean me telling you the full story, if you don't wanna be confused...do you still wanna listen...?"
The blue mutt restrained himself from reeling back. Should he give her reason to ramble again? Those big puppy-dog eyes… Almost as if in reaction, Shantik spoke up again.
"I'd promise not to tell it too fast!"
Still, his curiosity was nagging at him to hear the story behind it – and if she was going to exercise some control over her speech ”Um… ok.” Teak nodded slowly to reinforce, hoping he wouldn’t come to regret it.
