Shanda was a bit surprised at his last statement-it caused her to seriously think. What was she apart of here that made her feel like this beach was her home? Then she smiled.
"Yes, I could see how some would feel that way. I honestly can't pinpoint what makes this home for me. But I do see now what I do around here, what I'm apart of. Timid as I am, I find myself quite often as the greeter to those who find themselves here, such as yourself. I don't know how useful that is, but it makes me feel apart of something. I hope you can find your place to belong," she said kindly, glancing down the beach, thinking on her new found realization.

(sorry it took so long my internet was down. oh and it's not very long. writer's block)
Mitternacht smiled at Shanda's response. It made more sense to him now how someone could be one their own but still feel as a part of something.
"I guess that makes sense," he growled. "I guess everyone has something to contribute to this world of ours. I guess I just have not found my own place or purpose just yet." Mitternacht laughed slightly. "I wonder what a 'tough guy' like myself could do to help out." Nacht thought it through a little more. What could he do? What had he done with his life. Sadly, not much. He had no place, no feeling of accomplishment, nothing.

Shanda smiled in return. It was strange to her how quickly her apprehension had faded of this new wolf. Maybe she had not had a setback after all. It was becoming increasingly easy for her to communicate with others without her old fear ruling her actions. She looked back at the scarred wolf before her. They had both had hard lives, but both were making an effort to change that, to find their place in the world.
"It will come to you. Most often our purpose in the world hits us when we least expect it...." her voice trailed of at the realization of her words. It even made her chuckle lightly....how ironic....
"just try not to let your past hold you back-it did for me for so long...and often still does...but I'm working on that...."her expression a little more solemn as again, she was convicted by her own words....
[gah-short as well....short is perfectly fine....dont worry about it!]

"Thank you for such kind words." Mitternacht growled softly. "It has been so long...since I have felt this relaxed. I guess I have been letting my past get to me and hold me back these years. Well, no more. Soon as I have rested enough and gather back my strength I will be leaving this beach in search of my own path. It is no use just sitting here waiting for something to happen. You have found where you belong and I shall find mine. Sometimes you need to be the catalyst for much to happen." Nacht flicked his tail happily, content with his own response.
He meant what he said. It was too late to be worried about the past now. Ahead of him could be anything, but he had always been too afraid, too cautious, to try to make anything of himself. Shanda was a good friend to him now, and Nacht was sure that if she could find a safe haven in this world he could to.
"Well, until then of course I am quite content to take up temporary residence at this beach. I think a little relaxation would do me some good."

Shanda found herself smiling quite a bit this night. She felt wonderful pride in being able to help Nacht, even if it was not much. It gave her quite a confidence boost, and she needed all of those that she could get. They had different stories, but still were so similar in the way they had let their pasts hold them back. It did not sadden her terribly when he said he would be leaving. Most that came to the beach did. She was used to it. This place was a resting place for weary creatures in their journeys to the next chapters of their lives.
"Well, until then of course I am quite content to take up temporary residence at this beach. I think a little relaxation would do me some good."
"Take all the time you need-No one here will mind. Winter is fast approaching-which makes gulls easy prey, there is a stream in shore with good water. In the year I have been here, I've never come across a hostile creature...." she paused, Devi suddenly coming to mind. Devi had been insane...."Well, not many hostile creatures," she corrected, trying to hide the hint of sadness that found it's way to her voice. She shook off the feelings.
"Stay as long as you like. I stick around the beach at all times, and am open to talk any time you feel like it," she added.

Mitternacht nodded in gratitude. Lifting his head he gazed out across the waters. He could just see the sun coming up in the distance. Nacht suddenly felt weariness come upon him. He was reminded of the dull pain still in his paws. His ears drooped slightly.
Letting out a large yawn he said, "I did not realize how tired I was." Standing up he stretched his legs. They had fallen asleep a while ago "I guess I should find a place to sleep if only for a bit." Shaking his head to wake himself up just enough to stand up straight. Taking a step he stumbled slightly. "Stupid legs..." he muttered to quiet too be heard. Tripping over his own four paws? How very embarassing. Giving himself another stretch he took a few, more confident, steps. Turning to look over his shoulder he called back, "Well, I guess I will see you around. There is still so much I have yet to see." Turning back to the stretch of beach ahead he began to pad quietly away.
(feel free not to post after this unless you feel the need. Just let me know if you're not)
