"The first step to defeating an enemy is cunning."
"The second step to killing an enemy is speed."
"And the final step is the will to do it."
Quite so. You've mastered my lessons quite nicely.
Did I have a choice? Although I still can't manage your speed.
I doubt that anyone can.
Mortil shook himself and then got up. He blinked owlishly several times and looked around at the shady clearing of trees he called his den. It was far an away from most of the others, even in Arnlanian standards. Still, that was the way he liked it. Far away from others if he chose it to be, and somewhat nearby when he wished it. But for now...
He quietly padded a few feet outside, glancing around. It was midday, though it was hard to tell in the perpetual dark of Arnlan. Mortil was feeling pensive and slightly lonely today; after all, having an insane and homcidal wolf as his only company for awhile tended to wear on him. Perhaps he'd go find Nightblood, he'd been seeing her around for awhile now. He frowned. He hadn't seen the sepia wolfess or Mordecaifor quite a bit...and he hadn't seen Archer either. He shrugged. Oh well. He continued padding quietly away from his resting place, aimlessly.
EDIT: (( Meant whats-his-face...Mordecai))

There was a black-and-red brown mass on an old game trail in Arnlan. NightBlood hadn't exactly finished her rounds that night, instead coming to a stop during one of her criss-crosses through the territory. Her leg had been acting up lately, and the only reliefe she found from it was in sleep.
As the sun shown through the clouds of that winter day, Blood stired in her dreams, fighting off the coming reality. Giving up, she rose her head and yawned loudly, shaking her head to wake herself more fully. It was then that she realized that she hadn't finished her job. Oh well. She doubted that there'd be any trouble on the borders.
The Sentry was less interested in borders today, particularly because she caught a familiar scent. Mortilitas Umbra was in the area. Grinning, Blood layed her head back down, waiting for him to find her. She could hear him coming this way and she wasn't about to stand on her bad leg before she was sure it wasn't going to pain her. It was funner being sought out anyway. She would be able to see him looking for her, but would pretend to be asleep when he got close. Apparently NightBlood was feeling very pup-like on this vacation day of hers.

Mortil stopped for a moment, sniffing the air. He smiled slightly. Nightblood was close. It was quite odd how they kept bumping into each other. Oh well. You can't choose your friends, after all.
Ah, Nightblood is in the area. Hmm. Let me out.
You're not acting like yourself today...I'll let it slide just this once.
Umbra grinned. "Come out Nightblood!" he called mirthlessly, his voice mocking. "We know you're here. Come now, no need for this to get violent."
You're a real jerk, you know that?
---
The light grey wolf slowly padded to the borders of Arnlan, sniffing the air. So he was here. His eyes flashed. For a year or more he had searched, looking everywhere. And now his old friend had joined a new pack. Alarm and joy shot through him at the same time. If past events repeated themselves, things could be bad. Yet, he was glad that Mort had found a place to belong. Ultionis shook his head in resignation. He had made a promise to his fallen brothers...he would see it through.
Without a sound, the warrior quietly slipped into Arnlan.

"Come out Nightblood!"
UMBRA WAS OUT?! Jolting at the sound of his voice, NightBlood went into high alert, standing up and casting her eyes about. Where was he?
"We know you're here. Come now, no need for this to get violent."
"I'm over here, Umbra!" she called out. Under any other cercumstance, that would have been suicide. However, she still didn't feel like moving her leg.
The Sentry's mind tugged her in the direction of the border. Ignoring it, but sencing the urgency of her instinct, she desided that maybe she would cut her vacation short later tofay.

"I'm over here, Umbra!"
Yes, you are a REAL jerk, you know that?
Never pretended not to be.
Forget it.
Mortil reassumed control and padded in the direction of Nightblood's voice. Good thing she was bigger than he was, he almost stepped on her. He blinked twice, looking at her owlishly. "Why, hello!" He said, looking at her. "Sorry for the scare, if any. Umbra gets restless if I don't let him out every once in awhile. And if its anything we don't want, its a restless Umbra." The ash-grey wolf looked around. Something was nagging at his instinct. Something felt...wrong. The air was ominous, and his could smell the unease in the air, just like that faithful day during their battle with Bloodloose.
---
Ultionis could hear Mort now. But it was not his friend that spoke...it was that cursed Umbra! His eyes flashed. He howled vindictively into the sky, his voice full of hate. "I know you're here Mort! I've finally found you, after all my searching. Come out, my old friend! Come out and fight with some honor before you die!"
Ultionis continued his implacable gait, piercing deeper into Arnlanian territory, determined to face the ash-grey wolf he once called friend.

"Why, hello!"
NightBlood blinked. Mortil was in control again. Once sure of it, she let out a ridged sigh, as if afraid to calm down fully.
"Sorry for the scare, if any. Umbra gets restless if I don't let him out every once in awhile. And if its anything we don't want, its a restless Umbra."
"Well, I wouldn't want him to be caged up completely. I know the feeling. But next time, do warn me first, please? I like to know when my friends are more likely to go into a rampage, thanks," she said, sarcasm covering almost every word. She kept a light joking tag on it, just in case Umbra happened to be listening.
It was then that a strong wind blew hard in her face. There was a voice carried with it, but jumbled up in the breeze and stretched thin by the distance it originated from. Blood flicked and ear and tilted her head up, trying to desipher it.
"You hear that?"

"You hear that?"
Mortil briefly locked up, eye wide. He had heard parts of it, yes, and he wished he hadn't. He never though this day would come. He thought...he thought Umbra had...how could...?
"Yes, I heard it." He said heavily. "And now I do not know if I will still be alive at the end of the day.
---
Further still Ultionis went, glancing this way and that. Mort was close, he was certain. He pushed further and further in, now in a clearing of trees. The place was thick with his friend's scent. "Where is he, grack it all..." He muttered softly. He continued his search, but another scent caught in the air. It was unfamiliar, so he assumed it was of the pack. He frowned, but then eased again. Two would not be so challenging.

"Yes, I heard it."
It as then that the scent brught realization back to her. It was not of Arnlan, but it was coming from inside the borders! She had not finished her rounds, and so she had left the border open for invasion. She had thought that Crow would make up for it. Now se had a new saying: 'Never assume that your job will be done for you."
"And now I do not know if I will still be alive at the end of the day."
Blood turned to look at him, string at him with wide eyes. He knew this newcomer. And they were enemies. Like Archer and Bloodloose. Growling at him, her brow furrowed as she narrowed her eyes. She couldn't help but lift her lips slightly to show her fangs. She was so infuriated that she idn't cre if Umbrasawit as a threat. She snarled as she stared him down, remembering Archer's cowardence.
"Don't you DARE chicken out on me."
With that, she turned swiftly and ran to confront the tresspasser, forgettig the pain in her back leg.

"Don't you DARE chicken out on me."
Mortil smiled grimly. "I...have no intentions...of backing down."
He looked at her. "I'm quite surprised actually. And a bit worried. Only one wolf could possibly survive Umbra. One and one alone...."
Mortil grinned, but his smile held no mirth. "I hope you're prepared Nightblood, because if anything, let me tell you this...There are things in this world more terrifying than death."
He flicked his tail and began to walk forward, towards that all-too familiar scent.
"We are about to face one of those things."
---
He was coming! The sheer idiocy and bravery of it astounded him. Ultionis grinned sadly. Many times he had thought this over. But all the same, it had to be done. "Til Death." He whispered, and stopped his advance. His friend would reach him soon enough. And then here, in Arnlan, it would end. Once and for all!

"I...have no intentions...of backing down."
"Good," said the Sentry, glaring back at him for a moment.
"I'm quite surprised actually. And a bit worried. Only one wolf could possibly survive Umbra. One and one alone.... I hope you're prepared Nightblood, because if anything, let me tell you this...There are things in this world more terrifying than death. We are about to face one of those things."
"I am never not prepared for battle," she answered, allowing him to take the lead as she licked her lips, happy for the ensuing fight. She had been getting bored with so little action going on. She senced that Umbra was getting restless as well. By letting him take the lead, she was promising him the kill. She would be there to help, but he would deliver the final blow.
She pushed herself forward, pushing back the pain coming from her leg. It would do no good to worry about it now.
