It had been weeks since the pack meeting, weeks since she had been stripped of her rank, awaiting to hear if she was to keep her title, or lose it. In that time, the Master Scout had grown restless, and bored, she worked where she could of course, some light hunting, some sentry duty to lessen the gravity of Crow's problems. Yet, she had nothing to do for herself...and now what was once respectful understanding of the new Beta's confusion had grown into frustrated annoyance.
How hard was it to be beta? Her father and mother had done the duty flawlessly for nearly a decade...and under them Arnlan knew their place. Here she was, waiting, uselessly for nearly a month to see if she could even tally the puppy count of neighboring packs...to see if game was going to come to Arnlan this season...to see if Arnlan was even going to survive.
The old female grumbled, shaking her head, at this point she would even entrust her arrogant brother Cepheus to do a better job and he didn't even know the pack anymore these days...
But her frustration didn't lie completely with the new beta, nor the alphas, but it fell more upon the fact that Pollux was devoid of anything to do that was hers to be done. For nearly seven years she worked diligently for her pack, she never asked for much, just to be kept busy...and now, she had barely a thing to do...it was driving her insane.
She hadn't a thing to do since she pulled that pup from falling into the river, he hadn't even come back to talk to her since...then again, that seemed to be the thing of it, she was only wanted when she was needed, and then quickly forgotten.
Pollux sat frowning in front of her den, her tail swishing furiously, and her brows knit in concentration.

The air was quiet and still, whispering of rain in the near future. Overcast clouds loomed over the land, silencing the birds for the evening as they bedded down for a wet night. It seemed that every creature in the surrounding area was calling it a night earlier due to the rising humidity, except one. One mad wolf.
RavenShard had been bothering the living daylights out of a family of gophers for quite some time now. "Come onnnn...." she whined, poking at the rodent with her long nose, "I just wanna know what sort of plant life you've harvested! Its a small favor, really... I can--" she got cut off when a tiny rodent hand armed with sharp claws whacked her in the nose. She yelped, backing out of the hole.
"wellFINE!" she said through a nose clenched in paws, "I dote mide if you all cub ober for tea widdanuhmluherooihuheeeeaaaaaAA!" RavenShard sneezed abruptly, and then again, and once more. Giving her body a strong shake, she looked around as if she had no idea how she got here. Shrugging, she set off in a northern direction. It wasn't long until she caught the scent of an unfamiliar wolf, but an obviously seasoned female member of Arnlan. She pinpointed it to be in that... cave. Thing. How strange that wolves live in caves... Bears are so much more comfortable, albeit their fleas sometimes....
With that reminder, RavenShard sat and itched herself, then resumed her "hunt." She walked over the den where the wolf was, attempting to surprise the female from above. "Bonnie?" she inquired as she leaned over the top edge of the den. She leaned further, nearly touching her nose with the female. Suddenly, rock shifted and her paw slipped, sending her tumbling over the top and landing on the ground in a heap of lanky limbs. Scrambling up, she stood at attention, as if the female were her commander, however, this posture was spoiled as an insane smile creeped up the side of her maw. "Ello Poppit..." she said, barely moving her lips, the funny grin still frozen on her face.

The old female had heard the scampering Ravenshard, but, unfortunately, thought nothing of it, after all, wolves meandered around these parts often, and rarely if ever bothered her, but the sudden sound of claws trying to recapture earth made Pollux cringe before the inevitable.
She yelped as her old bones protested as the healer fell on top of her, seemingly melting against the weight of the younger wolf...she just laid there, deflated and winded looking nose to nose at the cheerful red and black Ravenshard, she recognized her from the pack meeting, but the frantic behavior...well, she heard the odd wolf being talked about...the two were probably one in the same....
"Mother...fu--" she trailed off cursing, trying to regain her footing stiffly, coughing a bit as she hobbled up, a few painful breaths and a sneeze and finally she got herself put back together, stretching as her joints cracked and popped. "Ugh...thank god you're the Healer I guess...anyone else would have damn near killed me." she smiled slightly, still wincing just a bit.

RavenShard clapped her paws to her mouth, eyes wide as the peculiar colored female began to curse. It just wasn't in RavenShard to curse, and from her monk brothers' training, it wasn't encouraged to hear such words. Her head cocked as the female got up slowly, joints popping. She was an elder. Interesting.... Curious... Fascinating!
"Ugh...thank god you're the Healer I guess...anyone else would have damn near killed me."
This sent RavenShard into a fit of laughter, as if this were the best joke in the world. However, her laughter was cut short suddenly.
"Hey... How do you know I'm a Healer? Do you follow me? Were you that blue heron perched on the driftwood the other day? I'm sorry I took your fish, I needed it..." the mad wolf looked sincerely apologetic, curling her tail tightly around her. But soon she popped back up, as if nothing had happened, wearing a silly grin on her face. "So whats your name, Miss Heron? I'm RavenShard. No hard feelings, right?" she spoke fast, almost unintelligible, but brought out her right paw in a wolven "handshake."

"You could say a little birdie told me." Pollux winked at Ravenshard, a smile on her face that was a bit devious for her age, more fitting for a pup than an elder. The Healer didn't need to know that she had heard stories about both healers, and how common were red and black she-wolves? "I'm Pollux, Eldest Scout." she nodded, amusement on her features as the little female suggested that she was some sort of shapeshifter...quite the compliment, but she was hardly magical.
"And you and I...we're fine. No hard feelings." when Castor had been around, he used to often ambush her from atop the very Den that the Healer had fallen off of, and the memory of which made her snicker. "Just don't make a habit of it...I don't think I could survive that."
"So what did I catch you busy doing? Other than terrorizing helpless old ladies?"

"You could say a little birdie told me." the old female winked at the healer deviously. RavenShard narrowed her eyes, looking around her suspiciously, as if an assassin heron was about to ambush her. Giant heron assassins. Now she's seen it all. She could imagine the blue waterfowl with razor sharp teeth and giant bear arms underneath their delicate wings. This sent her in both a fit of giggles and a fit of shivers.
"I'm Pollux, Eldest Scout." the peculiar heron wolf said.
RavenShard was frozen in place, her smile widening. "...And I'm R-R-R-R-R-RAAAAVENSHARRRDDD!" She threw up her arms and shouted into the sky, sending birds flying from the treetops. She bolted away and ran a short distance up a tree, attempting to do a flip but failing halfway through, landing on her back, scrabbling to get up and laughing. Shaking her fur of the loose debris, she trotted back to Pollux, her gait proper and precise, looking like dignified heiress that didnt just make a fool out of herself using a tree.
"Nice to meet you!" she said happily, swinging out her paw in greeting.
"And you and I...we're fine. No hard feelings. Just don't make a habit of it...I don't think I could survive that." said Pollux, and Raven brought both her paws up, covering her mouth in a coy giggle.
"So what did I catch you busy doing? Other than terrorizing helpless old ladies?" This incited another giggle from Raven, and after that bout, she set her paws down, her eyes squinted and a frown formed, as if she were deep in thought.
"I uh... I was uhhhmmm..." RavenShard's attention span seemed to be less than a rodents, and thats what discarded the memory of her harassing a group of gophers not even five minutes ago. She touched a paw to her chin. After a couple minutes of silence, she looked to Pollux and shrugged innocently. "'Prolly somethin' to do with bears or salty and unwanted pinecones... Dunno...." she smiled blankly at Pollux for several seconds. Then, as if just realizing what she had said in her last line, she cocked her head and looked scrutinizingly at Pollux, if she were human she'd have her hands on her cocked hips. "Hey! You're not an old lady! You look fresh as a spring chicken to me!" She said half pouty, half-happily.

Pollux watched Ravenshard's antics with a smirk, man...why did they need puppies in Arnlan...all they needed were some more hyperactive young wolves like this, and there was no need for the useless little babies. She shook her head and laughed.
"Hey! You're not an old lady! You look fresh as a spring chicken to me!"
"Hmmmm hmmmmm sure."
"Well then I guess you were just looking for trouble..." the scout just couldn't imagine what had gotten into Ravenshard to make her so hyper...but it made her smile none the less. "Which I encourage..."

((laaaate reply. D:))
She cocked her head back and brought a paw to her chest in feigned shock. "Why... I wouldn't be looking for trouble!" She squawked, her crimson colored eyes darting around the area as a mischevious smile creeped up her muzzle. She pursed her lips in a change of subject, bringing her paws down and slumping quite un-RavenShard-like. "Its like everybody moves in slow motion here... I think I'm moving too fast for them to notice!" And suddenly, her whole body became animate and she laughed heartily, sending small animals chattering and scuttling away.
"SO!" she barked, startling even herself, "What'cha doin' in this cave all by yer'self?" She leaned forward, cocking her head, as if she were examining an interesting insect.

"Honey...its always been this way...so slow you can watch the seasons change. " Pollux made a face, something between boredom and disappointment. "I never really could wrap my mind around it. Man when Castor and I were kids we really ripped it up...the scourge of the pack land really." The metallic old female got a nostalgic look on her face but her tail wagged happily.
"What'cha doin' in this cave all by yer'self?"
The healer quickly brought the old female back to earth, and Pollux shook herself from the trance she put herself into. "I live here, by myself I guess. No mate, no pups and certainly no friends who visit..." which was true enough, she really hadn't expected Ravenshard dropping in...literally.

RavenShards expression dropped considerably as the elder female spoke of her loneliness. She couldn't imagine what it would be like to not have friends, to just be alone. The concept was more mad than she herself.
"Aw, come on..." RavenShard said, bouncing on her feet in a half circle around Pollux, "Whats stopping you from returning to that? Age?" She stuck her tongue out and made a raspberry sound as if dismissing the fact.
"If I may be a friend, I will change my routine stops of gallivanting with migrating geese to visit you!" She said, a wild grin growing on her muzzle. Perhaps... perhaps shes found a friend in the lonely female?

"I just rarely find common ground with most wolves." Pollux was always quick to be friendly, but she was rarely a friend, but she was with Ravenshard her regular at least mostly pleasant self. "It has nothing to do with my age, I was that way as a young pup too...but back then I wasn't alone, so it wasn't an issue."
The old Gamma had very little issue being honest with her pack mate, after all, it wasn't like the healer could change the way things were, or how she was and if she told anyone, they would probably just say that was how the old bitch was...a cold thing.
"Heh, but if you think you must, feel free to visit if you want...I won't say no..." it wouldn't kill her to talk, and if anything maybe she could impart some of her wisdom to the crazy little female...just so it didn't die with her when she got too old.
